We are going to WDW for a 3-day weekend. I didn't want to get traveler's checks because we are charged at $6 fee at our bank. We will bring the Dis Visa. Does anyone just bring some cash or a check card? Thoughts? Thanks!

if you are staying onsite-just put your credit card on file at the resort hotel & use your resort key for everything-and bring some cash just in case. You can also put cash on account at the resort as well as your credit card. we have not had to pay anywhere in cash-the resort key worked everywhere. I have heard some people say some places will not take it but that was not our experience. enjoy :wizard:

If you belong to AAA travelers checks are free...

they're free, but they're a hassle. i prefer to use a credit card. (either disney visa to build disney dollars, or discover, to build cash.) i just bring a little bit of cash for vending machines, some snack carts, some types of tips, drive-thru's, etc. everything else gets charged. you can even charge some disney dollars to your card if you want "cash" to spend in the parks.

but that's ONLY because we *never* carry a balance on our card. otherwise, there'd be a fee to pay each month.

In regards to AAA travelers checks, I recently found out they have traveler check cards. You can use it anywhere they accept Visa. Just load it up with however much money you want and you can use it like a debit card (even at an ATM machine). If you lose it or it's stolen, it's will be replaced within 24 hours.

UPDATE
We brought cash, Disney Visa for some bigger purchases, and our check card. It was fine for the weekend. I do like the security of traveler's cheques for longer stays where we need more money, but I felt safe with what we brought for such a short trip.

Thanks for your replies!

Is the debit card from AAA also free??? And I couldn't remember or not, can you use CC at Counter Service Restaurants????

TIA

We had a credit card put on file and linked to our resort card. It was very convinient to only have to carry one card around.

Wow! Now that is a devoted Disney fan! You're from Minnesota and went to Orlando for the weekend??? Yowza!

On my last vaca, we were at USF/ SW for almost a week, and debited almost everything, except for a coke from a cart, and tips for housekeeping/ bus driver, and turnpike tolls

I don't like charge cards(high interest, long term debt) so we usually just take cash and a debit card. I feel better knowing that I control spending and not have my financials available in case of theft(computer theft, identity and financial records). It's not that much of a hassle to carry a debit card in your pocket, and it can be used everywhere except some of the smaller snack carts

I hate the thought of using a debit card so we use the AMEX gift cards that we pre-purchase. Do you think it is safer?
