After doing routine bloodwork the Dr found I have Type 2 Diabetes and high Cholesterol. Darn!
I am wondering if anyone can recommend some good books to help me understand the dieting etc. I will see a nutritionist in a couple weeks but am anxious to get going. Thank you--

My DH is type 2. We have bought a bunch of books, but none jump out as being worth the cash! The nutitionist and web site should have a ton of info. We maintain his really well with diet and excercise. Good luck! FYI it took us about 2 months to "settle" into this whole thing and get used to it!

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes this past September, while I was in the hospital with blood clots in my lungs. I was there 4 days, so the nutritionist came to see me right there and gave me a lot of information, some of which was rather overwhelming. The doctor said if I would lose weight and exercise I could probably end up getting off the diabetes medication completely, so that is my "ultimate" goal. I take 500mg glucophage every morning and so far I've lost 36 pounds, plan to lose at least another 14, maybe 10 more after that...we'll see. Anyway, GOOD LUCK to you and just take it a day at a time, I'm sure you'll do fine. :) If you want to talk, feel free to PM me too!

I bought several books to read, and a couple cook books too, but the one I found most helpful was "Diabetes for Dummies." It speaks in "normal" language and is not confusing as some of them tend to be.
