Does anybody have any experience using either Kids Night Out or a Disney Kids Club with a type 1 child?

Our DS is 9 and is on an insulin pump. He can test and dose himself but needs help carb counting. On our Disney cruise a year ago we had no issues with the kids club. We checked on him frequently and all of us had a great time. His BGs at WDW are all over the place since it is an active vacation so that makes things a little different.

I feel pretty confident that everything will be okay at a kids club as long as we are at restaurant in the same hotel (unless Disney has an issue with it). But we were thinking about going to V&A and it seems like the kids club in GF is no longer there?

I will give both of them a call, but would like some first hand experience if possible! Thanks!

I used kids night out last time at wdw with my 2 daughters. One is developmentally delayed and the other very mild cp. I alerted them about the delayed child so they could bring appropriate activites. They asked a bunch of questions about mobility, toilet etc. the sitter they sent was great. The kids asked for her to come again. I would call and ask about a sitter with experience with type 1 diabetes.
As for the kids clubs we considered them but although the girls were potty trained they still needed help wiping at times and I didn't want any issues. Also they went to bed on time which really helped us the next morning.

I recommend that you contact the agency providing the service directly, and discuss very specifically what assistance he will need or will not need. They likely will not assist with administering the dose, though you could probably request a caregiver experienced with carb counting for T1 through Kids Night Out. Not sure if the WDW-run clubs will guarantee staffing experience in that area or not.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you both for the advice. I would really like to use Kids Night Out. I will give them a call asap!
