Ty Pennington, host of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," apologized to his fans and co-workers Monday after he was arrested for investigation of drunken driving.

"I made an error in judgment," Pennington said in a statement released through his publicist, Stan Rosenfield.

"We all make mistakes, however this is about accountability. Under no circumstances should anyone consume alcohol while driving. I could have jeopardized the lives of others and I am grateful there was no accident or harm done to anyone," the reality TV host said.

Pennington was arrested on a misdemeanor charge shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday by the Police Department's West Traffic Division, according to inmate information posted on the county Sheriff's Department Web site.

Pennington was released two hours later after posting $5,000 bail and was due back in court June 4, according to the Web site.

"This was my wake-up call," Pennington said. "I also want to apologize to my fans, ABC Television and my design team for my lapse in judgment and the embarrassment I have caused."

Police officials said Monday they had no further information.

Not that I would ever advocate anyone drinking and driving, I am so glad that he was willing to take responsibility and is showing accountability for his actions. To drink and drive is irresponsible, but he stood up and accepted what he did.

Whoever's doing his PR these days deserves a round of applause ... he's handling this so far absolutely as best as it can be handled. It's a humiliating mess of his own invention, but at least he's owning up to it.

:sad2:

Why is it that these people only get 'wake up" calls AFTER they are CAUGHT?

Because no matter how famous they are they are still human
We all make mistakes

::yes::
Totally agree.
Compare him to Paris Hilton, who takes no responsibility for her actions.

I like TY, he's a real person, he makes real mistakes. I can understand his desire to drink but driving while doing it was a choice he could have avoided. Not a new concept. He should get a driver.

totally agree!

Given how many other other celebs act these days - and given this is his first time - and all the good he does on his show....I am not going to hang him out to dry on this.

Someone stated on a similar thread that the big thing isn't that he parties - it was the driving and putting others at risk. As long as he is willing to own up, apologize, and take the responsibilty...he is far ahead of most celebs in my book!!

I really like him - and my family loves the show. I am hoping this is just one moment of being human and making a mistake.

What a loser :sad2:

Everyone makes mistakes. At least he commented on it and apologized - more than most celebrities. I like Ty and the show. If they take him off the show it would so not be the same.

He's still hot in my opinion. ;)

Granted he is a pretty boy!

What gets me about this is that celebrity or not we grow up with--DONT DRINK THEN DRIVE--beaten into our heads. Hello--was he absent this day. I have absolutely no respect for ANYONE he does such idiotic and stupid stuff. Not only did he put himself in great danger, but those of us who showed up that day and took it to heart and actually learned not to drink and drive.

Is Ty any different than Paris, or different from the Joe Blow who is in court today for the same thing? NO--Shame on anyone who drinks then gets into the car and thinks it is OK. It is never OK.

I'd like to see how many of us go out to dinner and have drinks and then get behind the wheel thinking we are ok. Guess what most of the time we are not. The size of a glass of wine they give you out at restaurants is about 3 times the size of what we should drink. He's a celeb so it's in the news...

You're 200% correct - however most on this board make absolutely NO mistakes and are absolutely perfect in everything they do, so you won't see many admitting to having wine with dinner then driving home. I have in the past.

So have I

So have I

how do you look at yourself in the mirror????

Seriously - yes he should have known better - many of us should have in the past. He owned up to it, respect the man for that! Respect him for not playing the celeb card.

at least he's not being like paris and calling his sentence stupid and getting fans to write letters to Arnold.

I was really digusted reading that article. I'm just so sick of people getting behind the wheel drunk. And here he is working with families who have lost family members because of drunk drivers, amongst other reasons. I have to say from working in the film industry the past few years, the way people seem on camera is quite different often from who they are off camera. Just because he seems like a nice guy, doesn't mean he is.
