I was just wondering what everyones thought were on this??

Personally I am for proper english, probably because I am a bit of and old fogey at heart :teeth:

But what do you think????

I must be boring, but I hate text speak!!! I think that children today will never be able to spell properly!!! Maybe I'm really boring as well!;)

I just stick with the boring way too but when i get some messages i don't know what half the things say:rolleyes:

I don't mind the text speak when using my phone, but otherwise I prefer proper words :)

I do use text speak sometimes on my mobile phone, but sometimes I struggle to understand what the kids text me - so make way for another old fogey !!

I text in regular english most of the time - I do tend to use 'U' instead of 'you' though - but that's about it as far as the 'txt spk' goes!!!
:D

I like txt spk when using my mobile, however I have found my spelling is suffering when writing e mails etc and I have to keep correcting myself!

My mobile uses predictive text so I speak properly ;) My DD's both use txt spk and it takes me a while to figure out what they are saying...LOL

As someone who teaches English to 9 - 11 year olds every day I can not stand text speak. I spend a lot of time correcting childrens books because they use text speak in their written work. I don't use text speak when texting either (in fact my friends laugh at me as I even use correct punctuation!!)

Whenever I send a text message I always try and use proper spellings, punctuation and grammer. I don't find it takes that much longer to write the meeage, especially with the predictive text facility on my Motorola phone. It really annoys me when I see people using 'text speak' in their everyday writing etc. I agree with Verity; children today can't spell (I admit I'm not the greatest speller in the world :) ). They prefer to use text speach - - it's just plain lazy!
