Two Year Anniversary, Sailing Away to Canada! - June 10-15, 2012 Day 4 Part 2 09/30

Okay, let's finish this day up!

I forgot to post these in the earlier posts...here was our Navigator for the day.

There were two other ships at the terminal that left before us, so we hung around for about 30 minutes before we sailed off. It was so awesome to finally be moving and see NYC fly by...I believe my exact words were, "Goodbye NY! Goodbye Work! Glad I don't have to see you for a while!"

So I made it 'til we got about halfway down the island and then I headed in to start getting ready for dinner...like a few of you guessed, we had Palo tonight! EEK!

DH stayed out for a while though, so here is what he saw:

A bunch of cast members enjoying the sights!

After this, DH decided to come down and get ready. We had an 8pm reservation but we wanted to get ready before going to the show.

The first show, 'All Aboard', was super cute. We really enjoyed it. It was a very good way to start the cruise! We also saw a preview of the magic act. :sad2: We knew right then that we would not be going to that particular show. Maybe some little kids enjoyed it? :confused3

After the show we walked around a little bit. We stopped in the shop to look at souvenirs. We didn't get anything just then, because we didn't want to bring it to Palo.

So after we walked around, we headed up to Palo. There was no wait, but just as we were about to be shown to our table the phone rang...and it was the captain! He was ordering dinner....we thought it was fun that we got to hear him order!

Then we were seated. The restaurant was only about half full, which surprised me..I'm not sure how full it gets...or if they purposely don't fill it.

Our waitress was very nice and she asked if their was any dietary needs. I told her I was a vegetarian and allergic to mushrooms. So when she brought the antipasti she left out the meat...(sorry DH!)
Antipasto Freddo - Prosciutto, Bresaola, Parmesan Reggiano, Marinated Olives and Sun-dried Tomatoes
IMG_2816e.jpg

This was so good! Especially the cheese.

We both got a Bellini.

IMG_2819e.jpg

DH looking all smart!

Mozzarella and Plum Tomatoes with Balsamic Dressing
IMG_2823e.jpg

This was my appetizer. It was really nice and light. The sauce was the best.

Sicilian Pesto Marinated Grilled Shrimp Salad
Served on a Mussel, Crab and Cherry Tomato Ragu
IMG_2822e.jpg

This was DH's appetizer. He thought this was amazing...especially because he doesn't normally get shrimp!

We were then given lemon sorbet as a palate cleanser.
IMG_2825e.jpg

mmmm...lemon anything is good by me.

Gnocchi di patate con Gorgonzola e Asparagi
Potato Gnocchi served with Gorgonzola Sauce with Asparagus
IMG_2829e.jpg

This was my main...
Gorgonzola cheese=fave
Gnocchi=fave
Main=amazing
YUM!

Beef Tenderloin "Palo"
Served with Palo Signature Barola Red Wine Sauce or Gorgonzola Sauce
IMG_2828e.jpg

Again...awesome. DH knew that the beef would be best in Palo and he was not disappointed!!

Around this time, a photographer came around and took our photo. We really liked it, so we bought this one too!

So...being a DISer...and reading the boards...I knew right away what dessert I was having. DH followed and didn't even look at the menu! (This is unheard of.)

Chocolate Soufflé
With Vanilla Bean and Chocolate Sauce
IMG_2838e.jpg

Seriously there are no words. It is the richest, creamiest dessert ever.

But...we were also given this...

IMG_2834e.jpg

It was so nice of them! Up until they gave us this I didn't know if our anniversary was on our reservation. but it definitely was!

After a very relaxing (and filling!!) dinner, we dragged ourselves out and walked around the now very quiet ship. I guess most people go to sleep early on the first night? :confused3 Very quiet.

Because it was so quiet, I had time to see my favorite mouse.

We went back to the shops...and I bought this sweatshirt I had eyed the second we walked past earlier in the day. Then we headed up to the Buena Vista Theatre to see Chimpanzee!

We had wanted to see this for a long time and were so happy when we saw it on the list of movies being shown! That sweatshirt came in handy because it was freezing. so I was so grateful to have it.

After the movie - which we loved btw - was over, we headed back to our room to get a good night's sleep for our first full day!

I forgot to mention earlier that we were involved in a Fish Extender exchange. This was our door on day one!
IMG_2844e.jpg

Already it was starting to fill up. We only bought along our name plates and the extender.

We were greeted with sexy Duffy :rotfl:

I decided to walk around and give out my gifts...I was still wide awake! So I roamed the eerie halls to deliver my presents. It's really weird to not see anyone in the halls!! Especially on decks 1 and 2 where you can hear the engine.

When I got back to the room I believe I tried to watch part of a movie, but was quickly out cold.

Coming up

Okay, I wasn't sure that I really wanted to do Palo...now I'm glad I booked it! :goodvibes

Ooh! I know where you are eating next!

We (both DH and I) had the same exact meal you had in Palo! Considering the other dining room menus were a bit of a challenge for us vegs, we were so pleased with Palo's menu. (We had not gone vegetarian yet on our previous cruises, and always had the Beef Tenderloin there.) The cheese on the antipasto dish is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! And the potato gnocchi with gorgonzola knocked my socks off (and I didn't even have socks on!)!

Love the picture the photog got of you guys at dinner.

And I'm guessing your DH calmed down a bit, as he took some seriously good shots of NYC as the ship was actually moving!

Yeah I was so happy with the options at palo! I agree with the challenging menus at other restaurants (you will see!) Right? What is with that cheese...I couldn't stop eating it! so awesome. hahaha yeah...I could go for some of that right about now....do you think they will send that to my apartment? yum.

Yeah...I forgot to mention that! haha. After he saw Mickey...he kind of chilled out. and got over his fear! Seriously...he was the same way when we went to WDW for the first time...he didn't get it and then he saw Mickey and everything was magical. Silly Boy! You can tell though from the Palo photos of me I was starting to wear sea bracelets. I was so afraid to get sea sick!!

We had a great server at Palo from Italy. He was excited about maybe going home next year on the Mediterranean cruise!

We did Palo one of the at sea days and it was full! I think you might have lucked out because it was the first night.

If you ever get to do Dream or Fantasy, do Remy! As Amazing as Palo is, it's even more so!

Great report so far - looking forward to the rest. Your pictures are wonderful, can you tell me what kind of camera you used?

Loving your TR! Do you have any pics of the Canadian cruise specific merch?? Would love to see!

Thanks so much!

We actually used 3 different cameras (5 but I haven't post from the other two yet :lmao:) Most of the photos are shot with a Nikon D80 with 50mm and 18-135mm. The rest are shot with a Canon Powershot SD 1200is and an Iphone 4S.

Loving your TR! Do you have any pics of the Canadian cruise specific merch?? Would love to see!
Thanks! I can take a photo of what I bought but I didn't take a group shot in the shop. I'll take one when I get home

Great pictures. We have Palo readies for the 4th night of the cruise so it is great to hear what you are eating so we get an even better idea of what to order.

I love the pictures your DH took, the one of the Freedom Tower is amazing. Great TR, looking forward to reading more.

Oh you'll love it! What DH had is what they recommend as the best. Though I was very happy with what I ordered as well!

Palo looked awesome :thumbsup2 I think I may try the gnocchi when we go :goodvibes

I love you pics of Duffy too  Did he get to see Canada?

Looking forward to seeing more :thumbsup2

Great report! :) You are an adorable couple...Happy Anniversary!

I am trying to convince my DH to take the cruise plunge next year so I am happy to see your DH adjusted. My DH has the similar boat sinking fear!

My daughter and I are vegetarians so I am really curious about the food, too!
Can't wait to read more.

Well technically because we were docked Duffy was in Canada! but he did not come off the ship with us. He preferred laying in bed watching tv all day....he wasn't being very adventurous.

Thank you so much!

You kind of need to just push him into going on the cruise. DH was against it and was getting more nervous as we got closer. He did some research and was semi excited but mostly fear. The actual experience of being on the ship can't be beat. he won't regret it....you just might have to drag him!

Oh yay more veggies!
