Two weeks with a baby

Hmmmm there really is a mixed lot of reviews

Really not sure now what to go with
I think it’s up to you. There are so many opinions b/c it’s a personal preference thing. I guess it was work. Of course,
it more work than when DH & I went before DS. But, like everything for us with a kid that young, the reward outweighs the work, IMO. But, only you can decide that part. I personally would be more worried about getting there. I onto have an 1 1/2 flight & I’m getting nervous about that. We drove when he was 7 mos, but he wouldn’t tolerate that now.

We(dh and myself)decided long ago to travel and show our children as much of the world as possible. Traveling with kids is not always easy but you can have a bad day at home as well. Kids grow up so fast and will not be with you forever. We are trying to make as many memories as possible before the sad day that they are gone. I don't care if they remember the trip as that is not why we take them. We go with them to make memories that my dh and I will have forever. Florida is a great place for a family vacation and I can't think of many places that are as welcoming to little ones than Disney.
This is us. My dad recently died suddenly at a youngish age & DH’s dad died when DH was 11 so that has greatly influenced our opinion on these types of experiences.

I totally agree here!! We have always taken our kids from little babies on vacation with us and we also drive everywhere!! It’s not always about the “remembering” but getting used to the way you travel and the younger you start them the better. If you wait for the perfect time, it may never come. Now cruises are great too, but I did not enjoy cruising with one that small. There wasn’t enough for them and we are not people who leave our kids with babysitters/childcare on vacation(or anytime for that matter) so no experience with that. You honestly will be so busy seeing things through your lo eyes at WDW that you won’t miss the big rides

Why don't you wait until after the baby is born to make your decision? If I recall from one of your posts, your partner isn't pregnant yet? Or perhaps she just got pregnant recently? If that's the case, your baby wouldn't even be 1 during the timeframe you are thinking of traveling. I would seriously consider waiting one or two months after the birth to decide what you would like to do. It sounds like this is your first child? I don't know if you fully understand what it's like taking care of a newborn/infant. Sleepless nights, feedings, constant care, etc. If you go the cruise route, just make extra sure you know the cancellation policies and when deposits/payments become non-refundable. DCL and RCCL also only allow children 6 months and up to travel.

That's very true. I mean if it wasn't disney it would be two weeks all going somewhere or a royal Caribbean cruise

We took DS when he was was about a year and a half, and it was a great memory! We were planning to go to Florida anyway so his great-grandparents could meet him, and we really couldn't be there without tacking on a little Disney.

He doesn't remember it, of course, but we do, and the pictures are adorable! We've been several times since, and each age has it's own merits. Yes, a trip with a little one is slower-paced, but that's not necessarily a bad thing!

The only things that would stop me are:
1) If I thought I could only afford one Disney trip ever, I would wait (but that doesn't sound like your situation).
2) If the baby's pediatrician was concerned about about disease exposure. I don't remember being so worried about that back when DS was little, but there has been a resurgence of measles outbreaks in the states, and (at least here) kids aren't vaccinated against that until 18 months.

We did a week at one year and had a great time. It was even a last minute trip because we couldn’t get on our cruise because my husband was sick. We switched to a park trip and managed to have so much fun. I think it depends on your goals. If you are hoping for a trip that is super relaxing, that probably won’t happen. If you want to enjoy time together somewhere different from home, you will likely have fun. It really is just relocating the same work of having a baby/toddler when they are that age. But we loved doing it somewhere with fun things to do between the feeding/diaper changes/napping. I will say that hotel room breakfasts and table service meals were great for us at that stage. Good luck with your trip!

Am thinking if we just save a bit more and allow 3/4 nights for baby sitting money then we could do all the rides we want together in that time too

That would solve missing out on our favourite rides together

Yeah we would have the Disney dinning plan

You made some good points there and to be honest would any trip be relaxing with a wee one lol

I’ve responded to you before, and it really does feel like you keep asking the same questions and not coming to any conclusions. But reading through again, I’ve realized: you’re trying to fit your baby into your vacation.

You need to fit the vacation to your baby.

Your baby is not an obstacle.

Your vacation doesn’t happen in the evening while someone babysits. If you’re planning to do this 3-4/14 days, I think you’re treating the trip as a couple trip, not a family one.

If you’re worried your baby will “wreck” your day, or interfere with taking a trip as a couple...you’ve already lost, in my opinion.

Not sure about that, am sure there’s many of people that travel a long way and want a couple of nights to relax more a few nights and do some of the rides a baby can’t do

You say you need to fit everything to the baby to, am sure we are entitled to some time ourself as well

That's why we travel with our grown kids to disney. We babysit the grandkids a time or two over the course of a week. We just don't get paid for it. LOL

Well there you go. That’s what we will do but we pay instead lol

DS got his at 12 mos & pediatrician said he has about 93% immunity now. Said he doesn’t get next one til he’s like 3.

Do you have that baby yet? I’m asking b/c things can change A LOT about what you thought you would do/want etc. Also, ppl do, but there is absolutely no way I could leave my 13 mos old with strangers to babysit in a strange place to him. I wouldn’t leave him with a lot of ppl I do actually know much less strangers. I’m not judging anyone who does. My only point is there are things (like the babysitting thing) that I thought I would do with no problem that I have changed my opinion on much more than I could have ever known.

No we are only saving at this point. Takes us years lol

I see what your saying but there reviews online look good with baby sitting. Failing that you can hire them to go round the park with you too

I don’t doubt there are great services. I’m only saying that I have been in the position of planning a trip with a baby that didn’t exist yet (well, I was pregnant), but what that ended up looking like IRL was waaaayy different. OTOH, it was the best trip we ever had so no regrets at all. It just didn’t go like I thought it would.
