Two Weeks until Two Weeks! - Update 3/22 - NEW TR LINK!

Oh Brook!! I love your resort activities!!! I so am going to write some of these down!!! I didn't know they had a show at POR!! I will definitely be checking that out!!! I think the campfire sounds like a lot of fun!!! I always enjoy those, and smores....hmmmm I love smores (that's why I go to 50's PTC, best smores dessert ever LOL)!!!

2 weeks is the perfect amount of time for a trip! You're going to love it! And a split stay?! We tried that for the very first time in July and actually loved it!

And..that pic of Henry on the teacups is ADORABLE beyond words!

Love all your plans.

The boat to POFQ/POR is great. We stay at POFQ & LOVE taking the boat to DTD & back.

Resort hopping is great fun. We usually do not have a lot of time to check out the resorts unless we have an ADR but last trip we took the boat over to WL just to see it. It was great!

Looks like your 2 weeks will be filled with lots of fun things to do!!

Glad to help!! I love that dessert at 50's PTC too...yummmmmmmmm. Seriously, marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate - you just can't go wrong!

I'm so excited for 2 weeks, I hardly believe it's really happening! :hyper:

Thank you on the pic! :goodvibes

I've heard that particular boat ride is beautiful and very enjoyable - I'm looking forward to it! Such a great perk of that resort too.

We did Sci Fi a few trips ago, he really enjoyed it! We will go back there again sometime...their onion rings...yum!!!!

Are the cookies from the Prairie Outpost homemade ones or something? Joe bought one from somewhere in that area during MSEP last trip and it was a "Minnie's Bake Shop" one in a bag-but it was delicious!!! Just wondering if it's the same one, or another cookie that we are missing out on.

We got the cookies from the display case. They seem to be the same kinds that are sold one in a bag, but we ordered ours at the counter, figuring they would be fresher than the individually wrapped cookies, but I'm not really sure. :confused3

Your non-park activities look like a lot of fun. I've heard great things about the campfire at FW. And pool hopping would be fun, just because you can. I've always thought the Polynesian would have the best pool. :thumbsup2

Two Weeks from Today...March 2

Today we have a lunch ADR for Yak & Yeti at Animal Kingdom, so that is where we will head! I'm a tad nervous about this because there are AM EMH, starting at 8, and we likely won't be there early enough to take advantage. However, the crowd level is only predicated at a 4.1; which is lower than most other days at AK during our trip! The only ride that we really have to focus on getting on is the Safari. We can do Single Rider Line on EE and Baby Swap on Dinosaur, so I think we'll be alright.

So, let's get to it! Here is what is on our list for AK.

The Never Done's:

  1. Kali River Rapids
  2. Maharajah Jungle Trek
  3. Flights of Wonder
  4. Character Trails
And a few regulars along with a couple "must do's"

1005681807_shPgC-L.jpg

The Boneyard, of course! Must.dig.in.sand!

1006085459_tgC74-L.jpg

1005475122_rYScw-L.jpg

Rafiki's Planet Watch. We did this for the first time last trip and it was a big hit with the little man. He has requested petting the goats again!

643611369_Y8uZf-O.jpg

We only did Nemo last trip. Flights of Wonder is #1 on the list, but if we are looking to do another show, FOTLK will be #2!

643621600_piBS6-O.jpg

I really want to do all the trails! Maharajah is first since we haven't done it yet.

643610177_TNBcv-O.jpg

We didn't do the Safari last time, so it is definitely on the list for this trip.

We also want to ride Expedition Everest and Dinosaur...at least once!!! :hyper: However, in a few days I have a special reveal about Expedition Everest, so stay tuned. ;) Also on the agenda is It's Tough to Be a Bug. Henry has never done this and is kinda into bugs and has expressed interest. We watched a bit of the video on YouTube and the dark parts didn't even phase him....but we were at home on the computer and not IN IT. Know what I mean? Those of you with little ones...how did they react to it? I think if I prepare Henry he'll be okay with this one because it's a movie.

Joe suggested one afternoon, while Henry naps in his stroller, he and I grab a tasty beverage and go find a nice spot to relax and people watch. Does anyone know if that old boat dock is open for people to just sit on and soak in the scenery? That would be the perfect spot! Otherwise, any other suggestions for good scenery/people watching that is semi-relaxing and quiet? We've explored the Tree of Life Trails and those are very nice - a possibility for this...hmmm...:scratchin

Movin' on to the good stuff...Animal Kingdom eats!

This trip I WILL eat at Flame Tree! I have wanted to eat here since Trip #1 and it has never worked out for one reason or another. So I WILL EAT HERE even if I have to make a special trip! :rotfl:

We also had a great meal at Restaurantosaurus last trip, so that's on the radar as well if we are hungry with no where else to try.

We ate at Yak & Yeti a few trips ago and couldn't fully enjoy the meal due to a stomach virus (remember that trip?! UGH!) we were both battling, so we are looking forward to the redo! I plan on getting the lettuce cups with a side of the wok-fried green beans. YUM!

On the snack list we have the much-loved jalapeno pretzel!

(not my picture..or anyone I know)

I meant to get this last trip, but it didn't happen. Along with Flame Tree, this is a must!

Joe adored the frozen lemonades last trip, and still talks about them, so chances are high these beauties will find their way to our tummies as well.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Shows, thrills, playground...what am I missing? What's your favorites and what are the best eats?

ETA: I attempted online check-in since we are at TEN days today :woohoo:, but the system wasn't working. :confused3 I'll try again later, and if it doesn't work for some reason, no biggee - it's just fun to do!

Ahhhh, I will have to look into that! The bagged ones are delicious, if the cased ones are fresher they would be awesome! Thanks for the tip!! (and if they aren't fresher, all well - I know they are good regardless )

That Poly pool is amazing looking. I want to slide down a volcano! :goodvibes

I love, love, love, FOTLK. It was AMAZING! You have to go see it! We also saw Flights of Wonder, which was cool, but we enjoyed both Nemo and FOTLK better. I found a really good Youtube video of Festival of the Lion King here if you're interested!

I really wanted to eat at Flame Tree, and I'm in the midst of doing more food porn categorizing and just saw some really yummy pictures!! We didn't get to eat there last time because we left the park before dinner, and we won't be making it to AK in October, so I'll have to wait a few more years. :sad2:

I also recommend the sundaes from Dinoland. We found a shady wall by the Finding Nemo exit to eat our lunch, and that was a good place to people watch. :thumbsup2

Also, I followed the FW menu link, and I had totally forgotten about Trails to Go. I don't really know how that works, but it sounds yummy and I don't believe it's outdated.

I think you will be fine at AK! Don't get worried if it feels crowded, the park easily feels rather busy since the walkways are rather narrow. Also, crowd levels tend to drop dramatically after the parade, so just stay until closing.

I would suggest to get a FP for the Safari early on and that should take care of that problem. :thumbsup2

Will Henry be able to go on Kali River Rapids? I think it is actually a pretty mild ride, at least I felt much more secure on it than on Splash!

For the character trails I would suggest to do them while a Lion King show is going on, that worked really great for me once.

And for people spotting: I like the Dawa Bar area outside Tusker House. There are plenty of options for drinks and snacks around and you can sit and watch people entering Africa. Also further towards the Safari is a small outdoor school room. In this area are a few tables as well. And then of course there are plenty of benches around Discovery Island.

With all your plans for AK, I hopt you have more than one day planned there?

Oh-I probably wasn't clear! We have done FOTLK several times, just the last trip we didn't get to it. The only show we haven't seen yet at AK is Flights of Wonder, that's why it's #1 on the list. :thumbsup2 It is an AMAZING show! Simply incredible performers!!! And I have to say hello to Poolrat's (Pat) tumble monkey. :rotfl:

I have always missed Flame Tree too. One time I couldn't find it, another time it was closed (it was PM EMH) and another time it was under refurb and two times it's just been too stinkin' hot to eat outside! THIS IS THE TRIP!

Oooh, I like sundaes. ::yes:: I am going to mark that down!

Good to hear about Trails to Go! I haven't a clue how any of it works since I've never been there, but hopefully it all is easy enough. Otherwise we'll do the WL and the walking path - which would be equally as nice...

That is very true about AK. I'll never forget our day there in December over NYE week. :faint: It was unreal!!!!! I am thinking this day should be okay - we only have to secure a FP for the safari really, and if we miss it that day, we will get it next time. It'll work out one way or another! I imagine we'll get there around 9:30 or so, I can't imagine them being out of FPs already on a 4.1 day by then.

Henry should be able to ride Kali! I believe it's 40". We have never ridden, so I haven't a clue what to expect. I better YouTube that just to prepare him a bit. I've heard it's very short too?

That's a GREAT tip about the character trails - makes total sense too! :thumbsup2 I remember being back there once during a show (we didn't do the characters, it was during the "sick trip" and we were more concerned about the bathroom than Mickey!) and it was EMPTY. I think this would be a fun way to meet all the characters pretty quickly.

I always forget about the Dawa Bar! That is a very nice area and a busy one, so people watching would be great here. I don't recall seeing the school room, I'm sure I have - but I don't remember it. I'll have to keep an eye out for that.

Oh yes, more than one day for sure at AK! At least two. I originally had park days all laid out so we visited each park at least twice. When I scrapped those plans I made Joe very happy but I told him, very strictly, we had to visit AK at least twice, we were NOT skipping out on it! He agreed-and wants to visit. Plus, we do have a PM planned there (my upcoming Everest event!), so we'll for sure get at least one day and that PM.

Your AK plans sound a lot like ours...minus the Kali ride.

Let's see if a can remember my comments....lol

Flame Tree: If you don't want the sides (beans and cole slaw) 0.that come with the chicken or ribs you can just order the meat (and it's cheaper). There is a ton of seating and the ketchup/napkins stuff is down in each little seating area. I like the section down by the water with a great view of EE.

Speaking of EE.....I bet I know what you are going to tell us! :rolleyes1

Snacks: If you love cupcakes you have to try one of them from the bakery next to Tusker House. I had the white elephant one...OMG. Go to the Disney Food blog to see them.

Yes you should be able to sit at the old River ride platforms.

Tough to be a Bug: Don't sit on the lower right hand section....that's where Hopper POPS out from and can really scare the kids.

Did I read right that you weren't sure quite where the Animation Academy is located? If you do, then disregard the rest of this and maybe it will help someone else! :)

To start out you enter into that little outside waiting area where you can wait for the film. At that point the CM will wave you through a separate line if you want to skip the film. We did that. Then you enter into where Sorcerer Mickey, Incredibles, etc. meet and greets are. The animation academy is on the upper level. You know where the Incredible's meet and greet area is? If you're standing looking into that area, over to your right are some benches. (You go past them as you exit the building) That's the waiting area for the Academy. Sit your butts right down there and wait - classes are every 20 minutes (I think). Inside there's only so many tables/stools, but they have lapboards for overflow (you sit on the floor up front with those).

Hope that helps you out! :)

All the extra things you have planned sound like so much fun! Fun to explore the "extras", and with two weeks there's more freedom to do those things.
:thumbsup2 That helps me out... don't know about Brook:laughing:

Hmmm...on All Ears I see "Trails to Go" http://allears.net/menu/menu_teb.htm (scroll down a bit). That is what I was thinking. Is this outdated information? If so maybe we can eat at WL, then walk the path over to FW for the campfire. Hmmm

If you're going to FW from WL, take the ferry, its a very nice ride (unless the temps are 40 or below!). ESP at night its pretty. We once were boarding the ferry as the EWP was going by. it was a great view and we followed it back to the WL.

I really want to do all the trails! Maharajah is first since we haven't done it yet.

I can't wait to Rafiki's Planet Watch...we have missed it twice and since I can only drag DH to AK once on our trip, I told him we are doing what I WANT TO DO there! :rotfl::rotfl2:

I have not seen Flights of Wonder, also on my list. I'll be hoping you can give a TR before my trip in May. popcorn::

We also want to ride Expedition Everest and Dinosaur...at least once!!! :hyper: However, in a few days I have a special reveal about Expedition Everest, so stay tuned. ;) Also on the agenda is It's Tough to Be a Bug. at 3 1/2 and 5 1/2, Katie LOVED Bugs Life. its somewhat 4-d if you don't know alot about it. Don't want to give up secrets if you don't know:wizard: The only "bad" part of the program, for us, was the waiting before the show started. I remember being in a cave, and hearing the buzzing of ... bees? or maybe ants? ...and the cave was getting crowded. Noises like that make the voices in my head scream:eek::headache: for silence so I was getting a bit edgy. I think I minded it more than DH & DD. I was glad when they opened the theater doors & let us in.

As for people watching, I have to say that this was the one park that Katie did not fall asleep. there was just so many great things to see, and the AK doesn't have very long hours, so she was awake for the whole day here.

:rolleyes1 I have a dining secret ,.... aside from CS meals we have never eaten inside AK. DD loves:love::love: the Rainforest Cafe, and so everytime I try to change our dining spot at this park, she BEGS to eat there. what can I say? princess: wins!

Speaking of EE.....I bet I know what you are going to tell us! :rolleyes1

WAIT!!! did I miss the announcement that this is a GAME to try to guess what you're going to tell us before you tell us? :upsidedow

and if it IS a game..is there a prize for the winner and might we have a clue as to what this prize might be??

:rotfl:

I love a good guessing game and I love a prize even better...:yay:

I'm a couple of updates behind.

MK-Henry will love Tom Sawyer Island. Make sure to pay close attention to the map. The first time we went we missed going to the Fort because we couldn't find it. The fort has the guns! I'm also shocked that you haven't ridden HM.:scared1: It really isn't scary but the special effects are so great. The only thing that really jumps out at you is at the end in the graveyard.

DHS. I haven't done the drawing thing but really want to try it now that eveyone else keeps talking about it. If Henry likes art sounds like he'll love it. Also if you do make it to POFQ they have a table set up for coloring in the eating area. He can color while you eat beignets.

Other stuff. I haven't made it to the campfire sing along although it has been on my list since the first time we took Danielle in 2002. Dan posted an update on his trip report recently when he took Parker. His report is here http://http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2493892 I think it's around chapter 30 or so. We haven't been to play mini golf yet but again it is something I want to do someday. Hopefully I'll read about it in your report. Resort hoping is fun too. Henry will love all the huge icons at the Values. They also make great photo opps. And of course taking the boat to DTD is a must. We did this for the first time our last trip. So it was so nice.

AK-Kali should be fun! Henry will have to seat in a special seat due to his height. I hope it's warm enough for you to enjoy it. We love Flights of Wonder. We missed it our first trip and now try to see it each trip. I love the corny story that goes with the show. Hopefully you don't have FOB (fear of birds). As far as a nice place to people watch, DH and I sat in an area on the water between Asia and Africa and enjoyed an cool treat. It was very relaxing.

So exicited for your 2 week adventure and jealous too.

I love ITTBAB, not sure what to tell you about whether or not Henry will though. My boys were 9 & 4 the first time they saw it, 4 year old loved it and it totally freaked out the 9 year old  If you've watched it with him on youtube and he seems okay with it, I say let him try it :thumbsup2

My favorite people watching spot in AK is the Dawa Bar, I like to grab a jalapeno cheese pretzel & a Lost on Safari and take a load off. It's not a quiet, relaxing spot, but it is shaded and if you time it right you can catch the African drummers while you enjoy your treat.

So glad you're going to try out Flights of Wonder! We went for the first time in December and really enjoyed it! Make sure you have your camera (with you, that's sort of a "duh!" comment isn't it?!) When they ask for 2 volunteers to come up on stage, make yourself known! There's the opportunity to get a really cool shot! Dave got chosen and it was pretty neat!

We're big Flame Tree fans, especially Dave. He likes the ribs! I like the pulled pork sandwich (I'm not a fan of bones in my meat). They used to have awesome cornbread muffins that came with the meals, but those went away :(

And FOTLK... favorite! I always get teary eyed...

ITTBAB - I'd recommend having Henry sit on your lap. Then that way he can avoid some of the sensations that happen in the seats.

All this talk of all these awesome things is making me all anxious to get back... saw that signing up for the Southwest credit card gets you 2 free tickets, plus N and I have our APs that are good until the beginning of June... Hmmmmm... Another Mom and Son trip might be in order... Our only costs would be food and hotel (we're out of DVC points... happens easily when you only own 40 pts!)... and I'd only eat PBJs to save even more money if it means we could go! ;) Okay, PBJ and one (or two) Dole Whip Floats. And maybe a Mickey Bar. Oh, what the heck... I'll take Deluxe Dining please!
