CAST: Wendy DW; 27 years old; Trip planner and Disney collector; experienced WDW traveler.
Mike DH; 26 years old; Likes Disney but doesnt like to admit it; we have only been to WDW together once before in 97; Child at heart.
PRETRIP: We had been planning to go to WDW for 1-2 years now and kept putting off the date. Finally we had it all ready to go, all ressies set, hotel, and airfare. Then the worst happened. My mother-in-law passed away on October 1, 2002, it was definitely unexpected. It was a difficult time for the whole family and I couldnt imagine making my husband vacation at the happiest place on earth only a few weeks after losing his mother. At some point my husband and I had to discuss whether or not this trip would now be possible due to this tragic event. DH said he didnt mind one way or another if I still wanted to go or not, but that it was up to me. I felt guilty keeping this trip as scheduled. I figured if the family who were all staying with us the week of the funeral asked me if we were still going, they would think I was totally insensitive. So I cancelled it all including all my ressies so that maybe someone else could take advantage of them. I even did a post on these disboards to give away my MNSSHP tickets for the 10/20/02. Then on 10/7/02 our first day back at work since the funeral, my sister-in-law emailed me and said that I shouldnt had cancelled the trip and I had the same response from many of my coworkers. They all stated that it would probably do us some good to get away for a while. Obviously, I realized I had made a mistake and asked my husband what he thought and he just went ahead and started trying to get it all back together for me. So we were finally back on and luckily not out a dime for any of our cancellations. DH was able to talk to the head person at American Airlines and they were really understanding and just basically acted as if we never even cancelled the tickets. I had already put my MNSSHP tickets in an envelope to mail to a fellow disboarder on here and put it in the mailroom at work and was able to run in there and grab them before they went out. Luckily that person was totally understanding about not receiving the MNSSHPs tickets. DH also spoke to people at GF which we had booked three nights at $309 a night and they let us keep two of the three nights at the same price, even though that discount code was now expired. So now it was just finding a moderate to stay in for our first two nights. We had originally planned on just staying at Grosvenor the first night since it would be 11pm by the time we got to the hotel Friday night. But now with two nights we figured it would be more convenient to be on Disney property and picked Coronado Springs Resort, due to everything else, values and all other moderates being full. I called and got back all my ressies, except my California Grill ressie for 8:15pm on Saturday during the fireworks at MK. Now we were ready to go.
