Hi - Let me start by saying there is myself, my DH, DS 7 and DS almost 3. We just had an 11 night trip staying at the cabins at FW at the end of April. We had planned a long trip again in November 2011 with twelve nights at the cabins and lots of down time. We can still stick with that plan or do two one week trips at a moderate with one November 2010 and the next one in the spring of 2012(could be sooner depending on how well we can save). What would you do?

ohhhhh tuffy.

but i would go with the long one since we don't get down as often as we'd like.

also if our trip is too short (like our cruise) we feel like we missed out on something. if it's too long that we actually can't wait to head home.

we've decided that 10 days is a good length of time for us. long enough to visit the parks take a break if we want, swim in the pools but not get too tired we're wanting to leave.

from now on though we're actually cutting our wdw trip short and adding a 4 night dcl. (thats what we did this year and we can't believe we never did it before)

of course this means we don't go every year but it mean great planning (we're planning people) and gives us something to look forward too.

example - we just did 3 weeks (too long - hense the change in our plans now) 4 days with dh's cousins, 11 nights wdw and 4 night dcl. and we won't be back until 2012 :(

it's really up to you but i'd go with the longer ones and really enjoy them

I would agree doing one longer trip is what our family would do. The reason I say that is like the above poster sometimes your shorter trips are just too short and keeping in mind the time to unwind and enjoy the vacation. Having a longer trip lets you unwind do all that you want to do and not feel rushed. The worse thing about a vacation is having to rush to get all the things done and then at the end feel like you need a vacation from your vacation. I would do a longer trip for sure IMOA.

We were just there in May for a week and it wasn't enough. Therefore we are now opting for taking a longer trip every 2 yrs instead of a short one every yr.
But what works for your fam might not work for another.
For instance are you able to manage going that long w/o your Disney fix? I know for us we will have other trips somewhere else on our off yrs.

I agree that one week is not enough. In the past we have always tried to do 10 day vacations no matter where we are going. Last year we stayed 2 weeks at POP and while I stressed a little that it would be to long, it was glorious. Those 2 weeks passed by as if it was only a few days but we did have a convention to attend for 3 days spend out over the first week. When I crunched the numbers for that trip the cost to add the second week was only about $900. Many of the costs were fixed regardless of the number of nights we stayed.

OP....how about staying at a less expensive resort and still doing the 2 trips with 10 nights each?

Personally I could not go 2 years without a vacation and would do a 1 week vacation each year.

I would decide with how long your travel time is. If it takes you an entire day to get to Disney like it does for us, I would go with the longer trip. First time we traveled to Disney from Fredericton the entire day was gone. So your week vacation is really only 5 days. Now when we go it's for around 10 days.
But if you can leave in the morning and be there by lunch...... Go for two.:thumbsup2

Have fun with whatever you choose.:goodvibes

It's sooo hard to decide! what I'd really like to do is one short trip next year and then our originally planned long trip but that's alot of money needed so we'll have to see! Free Dining next year might be an option to save some money or if then continue to have deals like they are. Obviously I need to have tons of money to support my Disney addiction!
