We have 3 to 4 adults and 3 kids going to DW in January. It will be me, my husband, our three girls, and we are taking along my husband's crippled 66-year-old uncle (this will be his dream trip) and my mother-in-law. We will be paying for the room(s), and for us to do so, we really need to watch our expenses. I am undecided as to whether we should get two cheap hotel rooms or a 2-bedroom of some sort. We need at least two bathrooms. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!!! :-)

If you want to stay on site, check out the DVC Boards here. Many DVCers post "points for rent" You can save some $$ doing this. There is also a great post about the do's and don'ts of this.

It sounds like by the nature of your post you are in the same boat as we were, only different.
With 3 adults and 3 kids its going to be a wash which way you go. I might suggest looking at it from another point of view.
How long are you going to be staying there? if it's for just a few days, you might want to do a suite. Kids in one half and adults in the other. Depending on the hotel this should be cheaper than two room's. If your going to be there for a longer period, separate adjoining rooms might provide more sleeping and leisure options, guys & girls, kids or adults or what ever works.
We tried 3 kids and 2 adults in one room for 10 days at the Contempory. We all had a good time but never again in one room. For us a suite will work being all of the same immediate family. We looked into 2 rooms, it was obviously double the price but we could not get a guarantee that the 2 rooms would be adjoining and a suite was not available for or dates requested. So we decided on one room as the Comtempory has the biggest rooms of any Disney hotel. It all boils down to how long you are going to stay and what kind of privacy needs your family requires along with whatever your uncles individual needs might be, compared to what your group can get along with or without for the length of stay.
As with us money is always a issue but we looked at it from the standpoint that we don't get to go but once every 5 years or so and that we would be down to 4 next time. So we decided to spend less for one room, be crampt, and stay for as long as we could.
We loved it, but never again in one room , even with 4.

We got our 2 bedroom/2 bath at the Wydham Palms on Hotelkingdom.com for $88.90/night in November.

It has a 1552 square feet with a full kitchen, living room, etc.

The master bedroom has a king bed, the second bedroom has 2 queen beds and I believe there is a sleeper sofa in living room.

There have been some nice review on the Orlando Hotel/Attractions forum.

I hope it is as nice as it looks.

We also travel with relatives quite often (5 total) and we can't do it in one room either. I can't handle the 4 of us (DS9 and DD4) in one hotel room, let alone adding in one other person.

From what I am reading you might need more than 2 bedrooms.
1 Bedroom for you and hubby and maybe one or two of the girls
1 bedroom for the uncle
1 Bedroom for the mother-in-law and maybe one or two girls.
You may have to book 3 rooms or a suite and another adjoining room.
You might want to look into one of the DVC 2 bedrooms. They do allow reservations for cash if they have the rooms available when you want to go. OKW is very nice, and might be more available for you. I love BCV but I book with my points 7 to 11 months before my trip and have been put on wait lists.
If there is nothing available you might want to look into either the resorts mentioned or do a search for rental homes in the Orlando area. I have seen some with 4 bedrooms for as low as $650 per week with their own private swimming pool. Definately the way to go with a large group.
If you need info on ECV's or wheelchairs for your MIL and Uncle let me know. I know a great place that rents very cheaply, we always get an ECV for a week for $150. Much cheaper than daily rental at the park.
If you are doing the ECV you might want to stay on property. The busses can transport them, but to try and put them into your own car with the gang might be hard. Peggie
