In the DCL site it states that your gratuity to the Dining Manager is at your own discretion. Who is the Dining Manager? What's his/her role??

Secondly, is all room service still complimentary or is there a charge for meals other than continental breakfast? The way it's worded in the DCL site implies that you may have to pay for meals other than breakfast. I realize that you're expected to tip the room service attendant.

Thanks in advance for your response!

Anything on the room service menus including sandwiches, chicken fingers, etc. is complimentary 24 hours a day. There is a charge for any soda, alcoholic beverages, specialty snacks, candy that you order through room service. Make sure you tip room service. We keep a stack of singles in the drawer and tip a few bucks each time.

The Dining Manager oversees you whole section and makes sure everthing goes off without a hitch....we have always had good ones that came to the table all the time and helped cut lobster out of the shell, and to inquire how everything was....we always tipped him.

I think what mmouse37 describes is the "Head Server." I always think of this person as the supervisor to serveral teams of server/assistant server. My understanding is that the dining manager is the person responsible for all dining on the ship, or at least in a single rotation. You'd only tip this person if they do something for you, such as changing your dinner seating or table. The head server is included on the standard list of tips.

This person also arranges special things - like birthday cakes. We had 3 large cakes delivered to our table celebrating 3 birthdays on one evening. The cakes were personalized also.

In the dining room there are --
Assistant Server
Server
Head Server
Dining Room Manager

The Dining Room Manager is above the Head Server. You usually don't have any dealings with the Dining Room Manager unless extreme cases or special cases.

You are right...I stand corrected....forgot there was another position!!!

We just returned form the 2/24 Wonder. I checked my tip receipts from Guest Services. The tipped dining room positions are Dining Room Head Server, Dining Room Server and Dining Room Assistant server.

The "dinning room manager" is someone that I've never seen (or at least not recongnized as such). I don't know that they are "on the floor" during dinner times. I don't believe that they will come to your table during dinner unless there is a very serious problem that can't be resolved by the Head Servers.

I'm sure that they are the ones that make sure that the Head Servers are doing their job. The Head Servers make sure that you serving team of Server and Assistant server are doing their jobs.
