Two reservations at the same resort - do I have to check out?

Hi! We will be visiting Disney the week of April 23rd (Sunday-Sunday). This will be my daughter's second trip. She was 5 the last time and has limited memories so at 12 she is very excited and requested a Little Mermaid room at AoA. At the time I made our reservation (room and tickets pkg) AoA was available Monday-Sunday, but not the first night of our trip (Sunday). I was advised to make a second reservation at another resort for the first night. After a month of repeatedly checking every day, AoA had a room for that Sunday night. So excited! I made the separate reservation and paid in total for that night, but have not paid the balance of our pkg as of yet.

So I am wondering if I will have to check out of the first room on Monday morning and then check in for the second reservation. It would be nice not to have to do that and/or change rooms. Does anyone have any experience with this? I called WDW to see if they could provide any information but, to tell you the truth, the rep I had provided very little information and was so short that it bordered on rude. I know most have great experiences when they call so it must have been an anomaly. Thanks!

Is it possible to make that one reservation ? I would;d call them

If it is two reservations, yes, you will have to check out and back in. There is a small chance you will also be required to change rooms. You will want to talk to the desk at check-in, and first thing the next morning.

It's a roll of the dice, if the same room hasn't already been rented to someone else, they might let you stay in it. Just ask when you check in.

You cannot merge a room-only reservation with a package. The OP can make their request when they check in but they will still need to checkout and back in even if they do not need to change rooms.

that sucks
can she cancel and rebook ?

You can csll and ask for it to be marked as a continuing reservation so they know, and remind them at check-in that you'd like to stay in the same room. We have done it before with room only before FD package, and have not had to move, and just did it for friends over Christmas week who added a room-only nt. to arrive Christmas Eve. There is obviously always a chance you'd have to move, but they try to work with you.

You can check-in online for the second reservation the night before by picking the earliest time(usually 6 or 6:30), and that way you are set if you have tickets or dining attached, for everything to be active if you want to head out early. Ask when you arrive the first day if you need to stop at the desk at all the second day.

Why would you even risk it? OP was clear that all nights were not available when she booked.

What's the risk? You simply ask if there's availability for the entire stay Sunday To Sunday - if there is make the new reservation. If not keep the status quo.

Thank you for all the advice! I will try calling them again and check into having it marked as a continuing reservation. Would there be any advantage or disadvantage to using the early online checkin?

I suggest calling back. Even if they can't merge the ressie, but don't make you have to pack and move, it would be great. Good luck and have fun.

Thank you for the advice! I will call back, cross my fingers and know that we will have a great time no matter what!

I know when we did it once it was called a linked reservation. I was told if your two reservations are linked, it would be less likely that you would have to move. Good luck!

I'd ask at the front desk when you arrive if you will have the same room and whether or not you need to check out and back in. Last time we had added a day to our Boardwalk Inn stay, I called and ask it to be noted on our reservation that we had a "continuing" reservation. When we arrived, i stopped at the front desk and asked and the CM said we would be in the same room and we did not have to check-out and check back in the next morning. Ours was a room-only reservation so maybe guests with packages may have a different experience.

They can't do that ahead of time. You need to remind the front desk that you have a continuing reservation, and ask if it is at all possible to not have to switch rooms. I wouldn't make any other requests, just that one. Don't say you want a 3rd floor water view room and then ask that you not have to move.
