Hey guys! A week or so ago, I posted that I had purchased PI 11 and since then I have been really playing with it and finally think I am catching on. I've made a few designs and some signs for our summer day camp here. Anyways, I really love the program and reallllly want to make two items with PI. My two questions are below...any help would be WONDERFULLY appreciated!

1. I want to make a sippy cup liner for my son's Playtex Create your Own cups. How do I make the shape/size? I have no problem with the pictures and actual design but rather the dimensions so when I print it and cut it, it will fit....help!

2. I have seen some DISigns that were like large bubble letters filled with disney clipart...how do you make the letters? Using fonts, I can't get letters that large and I wondered what method you use for that!

Again...thank you to anyone who bothers to take the time to give me some help and tips!! I really do appreciate it! :cool1:

:flower3: Hi there, I also use PI 11. I'm glad to know there's another PI 11 person on the boards! I saw your request last night, but had to shut down due to thunderstorms in the area.

To create the oversized text, create your text in the font you want, in at least 48 pt. Then, select the layer with the text and select the transform tool. Then you can resize the text.

You might have to change your workspace setting. I just keep mine on advanced.

I'm on my way to work, but will try to either respond again or pm you tonight with the information on how to do the letters filled with graphics and some help on your sippy cup insert. I also have some great tutorial sites for PI 11 to share.

Please post your tips here. :cutie:
I just got PI 13 so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

THANKS SOOOOO MUCH for the help! :worship: I am going to try the font trick right now! I look forward to your other tips later on when you have a chance!! Thanks again! :)

Here are some of the sites that I use to learn about PI 11:

Snapshot tutorials http://pisnaps.com/pg01.html
More snapshot tutorials http://www.geocities.com/pi_snapshots/list1.htm
(some are the same as pisnaps.com and wishing well)
Wishing Well tutorials http://wwell.net/tutorials/pi10/
Johanna’s tutorials http://johanna.pircsites.com/tutorials/v10tuts.htm
Rosie’s tutorials http://www.rosiespitutorials.com/tutsubject.htm
PIRC list of tutorial sites http://pircnet.com/tutsites.html

Some of the information is duplicated on the sites, but I've learned soooo much from these tutorials. The snapshot tutorials are great, small lessons on one feature of PI. I even check out the tutorials on other versions of PI.

I'll be back later with the how to do the graphics (character) filled letters. I'm coordinating a farewell luncheon at work and need to design some signs and a banner. I'll work on the instructions for masks (which you'll need for the sippy cup) and have that up this weekend.

Yea! I'm not the only PI user on the boards! :dance3:

I also wanted to thank you Susan for the information. But I would like to add a question if possible. What font do you generally use to create the bubble name? Again the the tutorial.

Hi all,

I'm working on the instructions to do the character letters. I hope to have that ready later tonight or tomorrow. I just want to make sure I don't skip a key step!

Which font do I use? I usually use a "fat" font, such as impact or coaster. One of the DISigners on this board suggested coaster from dafont.com. Check the stickies at the top of this board for great tips and sites for graphics and fonts and tutorials! :thumbsup2

I have the sippy cup shape ready to send out. PM me with your e-mail address if you want me to send the file. It's just the shape - there are no graphics so you can add your own!

back to working on the letter instructions

I put my first attempts at Photo Impact tutorials on savefile:

Adding user defined image sizes: http://www.savefile.com/projects/808662288

Bubble letters: http://www.savefile.com/projects/808662339

If you can't download them, please PM me with your e-mail address, and I will send them to you.

I tried to do step by step. I'm sure there's something I missed, so let me know if you see something I need to add!

I'd love to see what you do with the letters!

Susan

Susan, Hey! I started an acct. at savefile and logged in and can't get the tutorials you wrote to come up. Am I doing something wrong?? I have never used this website before... I promise I am not a computer dummy...ha! Thanks! I look forward to reading what you wrote! You can email them to me if you want...either way is fine!

Hi weesignlanguage,

I sent the files. Others are also having problems with savefile too. It's not you!

off to do :laundy:

I am very very thankful to you! I used the tutorial for making the bubble letters w/pics in them and it worked great! Very easy to follow!! You are a natural at tutorials! :) I also got the sippy cup template to work and it fits the cups great! I designed two and I will post them in a bit! Now, I just need to know how to print them so they are much sharper than the typical print...when I pull them up to print on PI, it doesn't give me the option to change my printer settings....anyone have any help on that? My three year old is going to love these!! :) Thanks again for the help Susan!

I am going to try and post my designs so far...remember...I am a beginner! HA! I already see things that I want to change but this is my first official shot! Thanks again for all the help so far! Leigh

Leigh,

These look great! I know your son is going to really enjoy his sippy cups! :goodvibes

What type of printer do you have? I have an HP printer. I opened a graphic in PI, went to print it, and there was a button labeled [printer] on the screen. I clicked on the printer button and it took me to my printer's settings screen.

Thank you for the compliments on the tutorials. {Blush} I appreciate it! I'll work on some more next week. It helps when you can save your own shapes and create your own masks, and keep them in your easypalatte!

Hey! Glad you thought they were good! I do have a question...how can I get my sippy cup shape and my bubble letters to hold a border? I put a border on my letters but when I used the "mask" feature to put the pics in the letters, the border disappeared and I couldn't get it back even if I tried to edit the attibutes. As for the border on the sippy cup shape, how do I put one on there?? I have no clue! :)

By the way, do you know a good website or place/program I can use to put cute backgrounds/designs on my projects? I really like stripes, polka dots and that type. I made a design for my son so he would have "calling cards" to put on b'day gifts and stuff but I had to make the green stripes in the blue border using paint and they weren't as straight and evenly distributed as I want...is there a way to stripe the border or polka dot it in a "unrandom" way. Is there a way to make a polka dot or stripe background for my sippy cup designs? I am also putting another sippy cup insert I did for my nephew...roll tide! :)

Hi Leigh,

I'll have to play around with borders and let you know. It will be Sunday or next week before I'll have time to work with PI. I'm preparing for a craft show this weekend. :goodvibes

You might want to play with the paint on edges effect. Select a paintbrush or marker, change the colour and width to what you want, on the toolbar, select effect, creative and paint on edges. I'm still trying to get it to do what I want! It's fun to try this with stamps!

As far as the stripes or other designs, you might try a suggestion I saw on this board to google wallpaper. I've also used the gradient and magic gradient to make stripes. Select the fill type you want (vertical, horizontal, diagonal), click on the multi or magic gradient, and start playing around with the palatte ramp. Click inside the ring to add a colour. Click on the coloured box next to the ramp to delete that colour. If you like what you see, click on add!

Enjoy and keep sharing those DISigns!

Hey!! I am gonna check out the background now and play with those things you suggested in the prev. post. Here is another fun thing I worked on...I loved everyone's stick people here on the boards so I tried my own... I did copy the border from another DISigner...hope that is ok! :)
