Two people with too many days in the woods?

:3dglasses A storm in the Northeast caused DH and I to spend a few more days in the Orlando area last February. We left Bonnet Creek (happily) and checked into a FW cabin for the first time. The 4 FW cabin days far exceeded the 7 day "really nice condo" stay in terms of relaxation, fun and "wicked cool-ness". The cabins however do lose points for comfort (I like a King bed). Anyway...We've decided to return to FW Cabins Feb 2014 for a 7 night stay. I'm slightly concerned that this might be too much of a good thing. Maybe I need to break up the stay....maybe 4 nights is about right? Any input folks? We will likely be without park passes and don't see that as a problem because we are (grateful and fortunate) frequent visitors to WDW and now like exploring "beyond the parks".

As far as we're concerned the longer the stay the better, at The Fort. I think a golf cart would be a great thing for the week also.

Will do. Will look for outside vendors this time. I've seen recommendations on these boards.

DanenRox,

When you say, "explore beyond the parks" how far are you talking about?

I think it would be neat in February to use the Fort as a base for some day trips.

Have you been over to the Kennedy Space Center and done the tour there?

I think winter months is when you can swim with the manatees over on the Gulf coast of Florida.

Depending on when you're going you could go over to Daytona for the racing.

I want to check out Theme Park Connections next time down. They have the contract to pick through Disney's odds & ends first so you can find some theme park stuff. It's a good source of Disneyana.

What a wonderful problem to have. Enjoy your time down there and sit out on the deck at night in the peace and quiet for us please! :cool1:

I like the way you think. I wasn't planning on venturing that far out but...why not? Now I've got more stuff to google. Thanks!

Anyone been to Merritt Island Refuge? Is it worth the trip? And how long does it take to see Kennedy Space Center, could we combine the 2 for a day trip?

DanenRox,

As always, bama-ed has some great ideas. The Kennedy Space Center is a wonderful tour; it would be a pretty full day trip.

There's a lot to be said for sitting on your deck or RV pad and just enjoying the sights and sounds around you; we almost always have a resident armadillo, lots of turkeys (real ones, not rude neighbors!), and often a few deer wandering by. You'll find as we do, I'm sure, that one week isn't enough time! ENJOY

Amy,

It's been a while but when I was there they offered two types of bus tours, one more in depth and expensive and longer than the other which is what we did. They also had an IMAX movie or some big screen show and other exhibits at the main visitor center. And now I believe they have one of the Space Shuttles that flew in space on display. Plus it was about 75-90 minutes each way but it's something everyone should see.

Wish I could have seen a launch.

I bet their website will have current info.

You can never have enough of a good thing.
Just curious,,when you say " like exploring "beyond the parks",,did you mean leaving the Disney property or doing other things at the Fort ?
One of my favorite things at the Fort is to FISH ! YEAH BABY !!
You can fish on your own around the Fort or you can do a Disney Fishing Excursion on Bay Lake fer a price.
Course, I spose there are other things to do too like bike ride, golf buggy ride,
swimming, tennis, archery, campfire & movie, (I think but not sure, Segway ride,:confused3),,boat rentals, sking & tubing rentals, parasailing, horse back rides, walking trails, nightly fireworks, nightly (EWP) Electric Water Pageant (really cool), go to Crocketts Tavern to cool off and meet folks, and one of my favorites is to people watch. If you have a pet puppy, (we do) she LOVES to hunt for Lizzards. We like to tram around Bay Lake and check out the other resorts and shops. And if you go outta the Fort still stay'n on Disney property you can find some world class eat'n places. There'z great shopping at Down Town Disney, there'z Disney Quest Arcade, and a fairly large movie theater also,(just to name a few things to do).

Glad ya'll like the Fort, :thumbsup2

Spend a day in the Tampa Bay area. Lots to see and only about an hour and a half west of WDW.
