Two Part Question...Lexington KY & AirTran

I noticed the planes AirTran flies out of LEX are smaller planes than SW flies. We usually fly out of Louisville or Indy, mostly on SW, once on AirTran. The last time we flew back to SDF from MCO, the turbulence was horrible. I was nauseous. It seems that each flight up to that one had progressively worse turbulence. That time I thought that if I got off that plane, I wouldn't get on another one. My DSis and I used to take a four day girls' trip once a year and my DH and I would go once a year.

My DSis and I haven't flown since that trip with the terrible turbulence. My DH and I have driven twice since then. My question is, is the turbulence worse on a smaller plane than the larger SW planes? My DSis is talking a trip but I just am afraid I can't get on a plane again.

Thanks! Enjoyed reading this thread.

I bought our airfare today with Air Tran. This will be my first time with them and my first time flying out of Lexington. I got $55 to Orlando and $93 coming home. I was a little tempted to wait and see if the return flight came down any, but decided not to risk it.
Huh. I booked Delta for our trip next year and got $144 RT. Looks like I matched.:cool1:

Yes, we do. They are talking of taking most of our fall break next year and only giving us 3 days off :scared1::scared1: What will we do ? I can't stand not having a vacation in the works

I'm guessing that Scott Co has the first week in October off as well. :)

I think they did that to Fayette Co this year. Once they see that the other 2 days are not very well attended, perhaps they'll change back. I love the fall break. :)

Warren County's is the first week, too. We're not planning a fall break trip this year, though. With DS starting college this year, I figure last year's trip was our last family trip during fall break.

And wdwmaw - I'm with you!! I'm just not happy unless I have a trip planned somewhere. We've always done Disney every 3 years until recently. We went over Labor Day weekend in 2008, fall break in 2009, and now our little mid-November trip this year with friends. I'm thinking I might as well resolve myself now to the fact that I need at least a little Disney every year!!:goodvibes

Just thought I'd update...

Parked @ 6:25. Got through security and to the gate by 6:40. This includes stopping and picking up some cough drops & a Pepsi, plus a quick bathroom break. They had one of the two security screening stations set up. Granted, this is still early in the morning, but just to give you an idea.

Also, BONUS, Free WiFi in the terminal!

Damn, you all are lucky to have a week for fall break.

I think Jefferson Co. only gets 2 days for fall break. I guess the perk is to get out of school before June.

Since we live in Louisville we fly out of SDF but like others have said Delta has some cheap fairs out of CVG. Also we usually take SW non-stop flight out.

I love the Lexington airport. We usually drive 1 1/2 hrs to Louisville and fly SW, but in January we plan to give Airtran a try. We flew out of Lexington this past February on Allegiant and had no problems with that airline either. LEX is one of the easiest, fastest airports I have ever used.:thumbsup2

Don't plan on coming to Lex 9/25 - 10/10 - the Alltech games are going on @ Ky Horse Park and from what I am hearing the airport is going to be a zoo :scared1:

I am hoping to fly out of Lex for our trip next yr. I have flown out of CVG and SDF but I just love our little airport in Lex. DH has never flown before so he will be needing a small drink before take off...lol :rotfl:

We will be right in that Alltech mess:banana::banana:Disney is way worth it.

Just had to add that I miss my East Ky Mountains of Floyd Co.

Bumping as I would like to know the answer to this question as well.:)

We flew on Allegiant in June, so we made sure to get to the airport in plenty of time to get checked in with them. Plenty of time = too early. :lmao: It might have taken 30 minutes to park, walk to the terminal, check one bag and get our boarding passes at the Allegiant counter, and go through security. If we knew what we know now, we wouldn't have stopped for crappy fast food on the way and eaten at DeSha's in the airport. Lord knows the food would have been better and we had plenty of time.

The only concern we ever have with getting to any airport is getting there -- construction, accidents, weather, etc. Even that is easy for us flying into LEX. The BG parkway is the most boring stretch of road in the state, except for maybe the WK. :rotfl:

we're coming home as everyone is leaving ;)

I hadn't thought about one thing that will mess with airport traffic this time .. Keeneland. I need to check the times for the fall meet. :headache:

Hadn't thought about fall meet either. Thanks for the reminder.
Just checked and we are good, fly in on 10/11. should have no problem.

thankfully, we are missing opening day at Keeneland. I think the powers that be are trying to get as many people out of town October 8 & 9 between WEG, UK home game, and Kenneland. I cannot imagine how crazy it will be in Lexington! My oldest DS goes to Georgetown College and they're on Fall break then, too, LOL!

Talk to me about DeSha's. Sounds interesting . . . ;)

I have business interests at the airport and have been told Bluegrass would be at capacity during the games. My wife works at Newtown/I75 in Coldstream and they have been warned about taking 25/75/64/Iron Works/Newtown Pike during the 2 week period. Add a UK home game and Keeneland and I am not sure Lexington has ever had events of this magnitude to handle all at once.

I'll be happy when it's over to get a few days off.

:scratchin hmmm. Obviously, I haven't given this enough thought ...

My primary concern is getting out of LEX on a weekday in the middle of the WEG. (before opening day at Keeneland and the UK home opener) We are traveling via the BG Parkway, missing much of the Lexington traffic. Our return trip will have us coming into LEX as everyone is leaving town.

My original thinking is that we might encounter some traffic in the vicinity of the airport on our outbound, and quite a bit on our return (especially since we're taking our oldest back to Georgetown) .. but other than that, it shouldn't be that bad. Am I wrong in my thinking?

If going from Bluegrass to Georgetown-you may want to map out Pisgah Pike-one of the most scenic drives in the area. It comes out by the castle near Versailles.

You could also take US 60 back into Versailles and take US 62 into Georgetown-it's a few miles longer but has no traffic. I would avoid New Circle/US 25 completely if later in the afternoon on a weekday for Georgetown, it's bad enough without events at the Horse Park.

it will be on a Sunday, around 5:00pm. We never, ever take New Circle coming from E'town. We usually get off at the Lawrenceburg exit and pick up 64.
