Does anyone know what the tax is on meals? I'm trying to figure out how much it will realistically cost for meals at different restaurants. Also, I apologize if this is a dumb question, but it doesn't hurt to ask... I know that the Dining Plan is tied to your resort stay, right? If you don't eat all the meals on your plan, can they be used on a future trip, or do they expire on the last day of your stay? I'm guessing they expire, but wanted to make sure.

You guys have been such a big help in my planning. I appreciate it so much! :flower:

FL sales tax there is 6.5%, whether that applies to meals or not though I am unsure, but figured I'd throw that out there to bump this for ya.

Meals on the meal plans are use them or lose them..

If your using the dining plan your tax is included. The only food you will pay tax on is whatever snacks or other eats you buy in the parks.

I think I'm more excited than my DD9 & DS7 :cheer2:

your dining plan expires midnight the day you check out.

it includes tax and tip. If you are trying to figure how much to see if it's a good deal to get the dining plan, just get the dining plan. It's worth it.

I'm sorry Nora94, I disagree. The dining plan MAY be a good deal for some, but not necessarily. I think The6ofus is doing the right thing by doing a cost comparison before making a decision.

DH and I have used different plans in the past, but last year went without and actually saved money eating where we wanted, when we wanted and what we wanted. I understand the pricing has changed since last year, so it may be a far better deal than it has been in past years. We are planning another trip this Nov/Dec. I will be doing another cost comparison to see which way works best for us this year.

Just like with most things, there is no absolute right or wrong way with the meal plans. Each family needs to look at all the information to make the decision.

The6ofus... tax will be .065 and remember the meal plan also includes your tip.

I would IMAGINE the tax rate on food purchased in the parks is 6.5%, but I don't know that for sure.

Let's be clear about the tax rate on the dining plan. You pay the RESORT tax rate for the dining plan, which is much higher (about 11%, higher than that at All Stars) than the regular state tax. Huge thanks to Len and the UG folks for pointing this out! See www.touringplans.com for more info.

So your dining plan is $35 per day for each adult, $10 per child, PLUS 11% tax. People couldn't figure out what was making their package prices funny, and this is it. Dining plan is taxed at the resort rate because it is part of the "package".

Still a good deal for us. Can't wait for October!!

OK, I've done the math...

According to my last Nov receipts from WDW restaurants, the tax I was charged was .065.

In looking at the meal plan that gives you 1 counter service, 1 snack, and 1 table service per night, and looking at the participating restaurants, the $35 charge per night is a good deal for us and we will probably do it this year. Traditionally we don't do the counter service very much, prefer to have table service, and we rarely do snacks, but it will be a different experience for us. Last year our average dinner for the two of us counting tax and tip was about $65. With tax (using the 11% that jackskellingtonsgirl quoted) the plan would cost $77.70 for the two of us. Obviously having a snack and a counter service would cost more than $12.70.

I still wouldn't do the 3 meals a day again. $'s are too much, food is too much, and the time to eat all those 3 to 5 course meals are too much.

I was NOT charged tax on my dining plan charges. The only thing I was charged is $35 per adult and $10 per child. No tax. At all.

That was lucky! When did you guys go? Was it still when the plan was pretty new? Did you book your package through Disney or a TA? We have ours booked through AAA and I am almost certain they taxed the whole shebang. They also tax your theme park tickets at the resort rate through a package, so some of what we saved with AAA was negated by the extra tax. I don't specifically remember seeing anywhere in the Disney literature that the dining plan is taxed, but apparently it is supposed to be. But with everything they have introduced for 2005 there seem to be plenty of exceptions! :)

EDIT:
I just looked at the Touring Plans site and it doesn't say that about the tax anymore! I have e-mailed them asking for clarification.
