Two MNSSHP's and Food & Wine... OH MY! - ***Updated 2/16***

Ok, I am so super duper excited! Today is our 8 month mark! YAY!!!

Ok, so I was reading PoppyGirls PTR and I saw a graphic that was done for her by someone who used to be on the DIS. I really liked the design so I had one done for us too!

Mickey_Names.jpg

I went out to AC Moore over the weekend and picked up some Lime green shirts to transfer the image to for all of us. While I was there I also got the idea that we should do some tie-dye mickey shirts. So I grabbed two kits and some plain white shirts. I figure the tie-dye project will be in a few weeks. I hope to do the mickey transfers next week.

Of course I have been obsessed all weekend with scouring the DISsigns section of the board for other crafty things we can do.

Ethan had mentioned previously that he wanted to make more pressed pennies on this trip so we already have the tubes to hold pennies & quarters and today while I was grocery shopping I grabbed a mentos in a tube that will be perfect for holding the pressed pennies. Now I just gotta figure how to go about doing new wrappers for all the tubes.

Also new this week: I changed the name of the PTR. You like?

Well, that's all for now. More to come next weekend! :surfweb:

I love the design too!!! I really have to get into the planning aspect of this trip but with the other trip coming first I am really focused on it for now

Can't wait for the park hours to come out so we can really get planning!!!

Maybe I can start calling you "Krafty Katie...."

If you are doing your Mickey on lime green shirts, you can probably use DARK t-shirt transfer paper and not have to do the mirror image thing when you print it. You'll just have to cut out around the image a little more.

Yay for you! :thumbsup2

And yes, I like the new title! :cool1:

I love the above design

I was so excited when I saw it on PoppyGirl's PTR... I just had to have one myself! lol his site is graphicsbyj o rd a k .blogspot.com/

See, I am a little looney... I looked at 2009, 2010 & 2011 hours and there was not much change at all over the years so I based some of my preliminary stuff on that. I can't wait to be able to make ADR's!! Only 63 more days before we can make our ADR's! :surfweb:

See, I looked at the white ones but picked up the ones for dark but they are a white background. I want clear so you can see through where nothing is printed. Otherwise I will need to cut out every little piece by hand and I will be in some serious pain if I have to do that. And... I am pretty sure I will need to do the whole mirror image thing, otherwise Mickey will be facing the wrong way on my shirts.

:rotfl:I just love being so inspirational...

But here we go "Krafty Katie" I just learned something from you! I've never seen CLEAR t-shirt transfers and when you mentioned it, I googled it and lo and behold...right there on Amazon I found them!

Again, I must repeat my original evaluation: You rock, Katie. And now you're crafty too. ;)

Well, thank you very much! I just wish I could find the ones I bought a few years ago. I know as soon as I get new ones and print on them, I will find my old ones. :sad2:

I am going to do the Mickey shirt for my trip in 28 days, but we are doing white shirts!!!

The Mickey with the names desigin is pretty cool. Guess I will need to create one once I hear from Disney that I won a free trip. They should be picking my name any day now. :lmao:

I see you are planning to do tye-dye shirts. Awesome idea, one of these days I will actually get around to creating ours. :rolleyes1

Love the Mickey graphic! He does great work. And the design section is soooo addicting. Looking forward to seeing the design on the shirts.

And a big :woohoo: for the 8month mark!

Glen really liked the idea of using lime green. They will be our project for Saturday ao I will have pictures on Sunday when I do my next update.

I thought you guys did shirts for your 2010 trip? I went to go back and look at your PTR, but could not find them. :confused3 Anyway, the tye-dye project will occur over presidents weekend so we will see how they turn out. We also plan on going to see Star Wars Episode 1 in 3D that weekend! I am so happy the new Carmike theater opened up by me, now no more driving down to Oaks. :cool1:

He does do awesome work. I am still trying to figure out what other designs I could have him do for us. And hopefully, I will have pictures of the shirts on Sunday with the next update.

I didn't get around to creating the tye-dyes. We did something similar to tye-dye with various size mickey heads and bleach in a bottle to lighten a shirt. Of course when I packed I didn't pack the shirt for the youngest so none of us could wear our shirts since she would have gotten upset at not having her own.

Super cute t-shirt design! Some of these Dis-sers are amazing with what they come up with :) Cant wait to see how the shirts turn out.

I cant wait for April to get here so we can make ADR's and then hopefully see the dates for MNSSHP...I think seeing the dates posted will make it all seem even more real.

(Note: Glen is writing this installment, in place of Katie who will only act as an executive consultant)

Another Ethan weekend means that it is Disney Movie Night again!!!! Surprising, I know!! It’s amazing how movie night always seems to happen when we have Ethan.

This week, the movie is Disney’s “Sword in the Stone” – a classic based on the TS Elliot version of the telling of the King Arthur story. Ethan’s favorite part of the movie is when Arthur is changed into a small bird by Merlin. Glen’s favorite scene is when Arthur and Merlin turn into squirrels and become the focus for the amorous attentions of some lady squirrels. The poor girl squirrel getting her heart broken when Arthur turns back into a boy is soo sad. Katie’s favorite scene is the wizards duel.

We planned a modified “King Feast” for dinner – Turkey legs, Crispy Crowns, Beer Bread, and a salad!!! ok – not exactly period accurate, but that is just too bad – it is our dinner so pppffftttthhhhhh. :P The Crispy Crowns are “king-like” and are our veggie, since we could not think of any real period accurate veggie. Ranch dressing is also not period accurate, but we like it. I enjoyed the turkey leg more than Katie and Ethan, neither of whom are not really fans of dark meat – both prefer light meat from turkey and chicken.

Desert was apple cake that Katie made, with caramel sauce…. Yuuuummmmmm (Ethan thought it was only “ok.” Glen and Katie loved it. Mmmmm caramel!!). Once again we were too busy enjoying it to take pictures. We will remember to do it eventually.

On to this weekend’s Disney trip craft project- the t-shirts. I know everyone is waiting with baited breath to see how they turned out. Katie very carefully tested and printed the Mickey design on the transfer paper, ironed it onto the shirts which she had previously ironed and picked clean of all cat fur. Apparently Kali did not get the notice about no fur on the shirts. After ironing on the logo, Katie noticed some cat fur that had hidden itself and is now permanently part of the shirt. Take note if you plan on doing these and have pets- if you want no fur whatsoever, make sure you do the shirts in a special clean room that is hermetically sealed and has extra heavy duty filtration and is nowhere within 100 miles of your pet. Otherwise, they will use magical cat powers and find a way to hide fur on the shirt that will remain invisible until it is too late to do anything about it.

On to the tie-dye shirts. So far, Katie has traced the Mickey head onto the shirts and has been laboriously and carefully sewing the waxed floss into the shirts to outline the Mickey head. She has completed her shirt and Ethan’s shirt. She has not done a single thing on my shirt. I told her she should hurry up and finish it, but she just stuck her tongue out at me, blew a raspberry in my direction, and muttered words under her breath that are not suitable for this forum. :scared1: I am hoping that that is an indication that she will complete my shirt in the next few days and to leave her alone. :rotfl: The next time Ethan is over (in two weeks), we will tie-dye the shirt.

We took two links off the countdown chain, since we only have Ethan every other weekend. This means we are now just over 7 months and 3 weeks from going!!!! We are also 4 Ethan weekends (~ 8 weeks) from being able to make our ADR – over this time Katie will furiously coordinate with Tinkermom76 for the joint meals that we are doing together -such fun places as Ohana and CRT for the girls (while Ethan and I are off doing the behind the steam trains tour :cool1: )

Katie also received the new 2012 “Complete WDW” guide. She is excitedly reading it and making notes. She also pulled out the Hidden Mickey’s book and we are making notes on where to find them on our planned rides and restaurants. We will then look for them when we are at the park and keep track of who has the most points. Whoever gets the most points at the end will get some sort of prize.

This week, Katie has been scouring the interwebs for pressed penny locations within the parks. She is also chewing gum like there is no tomorrow to ensure she finished the tube in time to make a new label so it can be used to hold Ethan’s pressed pennies once they are complete.

That is it for now – we now return this thread to it’s normally scheduled author.

Katie I think you'd better be careful...Glen writes a pretty great post....he might steal your thunder!

LOVED the post, Glen! And I'm enjoying hearing about all your plans. It was fun reading everyone's favorite parts of the movie. Makes me want to watch it again!

Your Mickey shirts turned out great! Anna and I are wearing ours tomorrow on our flight to WDW. We'll be all matchy. ;)

Can't wait to see your tye dye shirts! :surfweb:

Lenora- I hovered over his shoulder while he wrote and had to keep telling him to add things. So I am not worried. I am so excited for your and Anna's trip tomorrow. I feel like I am the one who is going since the last week has just seemed to go in slow motion.

I decided to look and see how many more days until our trip (since the Disney Vacation widget shut down I don't get my daily updates anymore) and it is 236! Holy cow!!

The trip still seems so far away but I know we will be making ADR's before we know it and then it will be Ethan's birthday (July) and then school will start back up and then it will be time to go!

Speaking of Ethan's birthday, last year he got the first 3 Kingdom Keepers books. He has had a hard time getting through the first book for a few reasons, the main one being it is a bit above his reading level and the second biggest is he has had a hard time understanding the DHI concept and how the characters wake up in the parks as their DHI. This past weekend we happened to watch Mars Needs Moms and at the end of the movie during the credits they show how they di the whole motion capture thing. We had tried explining this to Ethan before, but it can be hard to visualize at 9. Once he saw that and I pointed out that is how they would have made the DHI's in Kingdom Keepers, he totally got the whole concept. He was so excited! :cool1: That night he actually read another chapter of the book without on his own. Normally we make him try and read a chapter every weekend he is with us. Now he is excited to try and get through and finish book one and get on to the next ones. Glen & I have read all the books so far and we enjoy them immensely! http://www.thekingdomkeepers.com/about-the-books/

So this past weekend we also narrowed down costume ideas for MNSSHP. Our first MNSSHP night will be with Tinkermom76 and her gang. Her oldest daughter will be going as Pocahontas and Ethan decided that he wants to match her so he will be John Smith. Sadly, they do not make a John Smith costume, but looking at the pieces it is not to difficult to put together. The only thing I will need to make is the vest/shirt combo and that won't be too difficult. I hope to go to the fabric store this week to look at some patterns and fabric.

With Ethan going to match Tinkermom's daughter, Glen & I needed to figure out costumes for the night. We decided on Hansel & Gretel. I hope to order the costumes in the next few weeks so I will post pictures then.

For our second MNSSHP night, we will all be matching as a family of ghosts. :scared1:

Well, that's all for now. More updates to come this weekend!

Jumped over here from the October 2012 thread. Our dates overlap so maybe I'll see you around WDW! I'm sure I'll spot those shirts ;) Awesome job, BTW!

I never noticed Lucy in Pinnochio! That's so cool. I've seen Lucy in person LOL.

Looking forward to following along with your PTR!

The green shirts came out super cute (kitty cat hair and all :rotfl:). I cant wait to see the tie dye ones in a few weeks.

I think we are planning on watching Sword in the Stone for one of our movie nights. DH & I havent seen it in ages, and my kids havent ever seen it.

I used to watch Pinocchio all the time as a kid and I never noticed Lucy before. I knew who she was because I grew up a few blocks from her. :confused3

Thank you for jumping on board! I'm sure anyone will be able to spot us in the Lime green shirts and when I post pictures once we do the tye-dye ones as well.

I may redo DH & DS's shirts because the corners did not take properly and they look kind of funky. The shirts were cheap enough at AC Moore and I get a coupon every time I go in there!
