Two Home Resorts, Different Use Years - is it a big deal?

Normal would be booking from one UY but I still fairly frequently book a single stay from both and have the reservations linked. If booking a split stay I can't really say how often it's using points from each UY but probably also fairly frequently. But because it's a split stay and thus each reservations is independent of the other that is not at all noticeable unless cancellation comes into play.
Are your 2 UY for separate resorts? Is it difficult booking a stay using 2 memberships if the stay is using some home resort points and some non-home resort points?

I have BWV points in both UYs otherwise it's different resorts between the two. As far as using points from resorts other than where you are booking it's no more difficult than booking at the home resort, you just have to wait until 7 months. Or, you can book a split stay at your home resorts at 11 months and then switch part at 7 months. If its different UYs then MS can link the reservations together.

Thank you.

I have two home resorts and use years: BLT December and VWL September. (Actually my BLT is actually 4 contracts with same UY.) I have a lot points so I tend to use the BLT and VWL for separate trips or different rooms when we travel with extended family. I have a stay at BLT in November that I booked at the 11 month window. At the seven month window i called to move some of my VWL points onto that reservation, moving some of my BLT points (which have a longer life with the December UY) back into my current UY. I plan to bank them. This is the first time I ever used the two different Home Resorts and UYs together. I will definitely do something like this again if it works for me. I don't find it difficult at all to manage the two resort contracts. They are both in my drop down under one DVC Member login.

Are you saying that you can replace points on an existing home resort reservation with non-home resort points at the 7 month window? Is it basically calling MS to do this?

You can't directly but you can in a back door move. Basically if the night is available, you can reserve with the 7 month points and change the existing reservation effectively freeing up more valuable points.

Yes, that is what I did. I called MS and they transferred the points from my VWL contract at 7 months, freeing up some of my BLT points. I wasn't sure this was doable but i called and was told I could do so, no problem. My reservation was never cancelled and rebooked, they just moved the points around.

The UY we currently have is April. We are about to take our third trip on points and so far, they've all been fall trips. This will all change once our kids start school in a couple more years, when we'll switch to summer. Fast forward another 15 years, I imagine my husband and I will go in Feb, May, Oct. I can't say that I've ever even thought about the April UY in relation to when we travel. The only time it's crossed my mind is when the banking deadline comes up in November.

I don't have any complaints about the April UY, other than not being able to find the right match for what we're looking for.

Full disclosure: we are the second name on the much-discussed and much-disputed direct purchase waiting list for VGF. I verified yesterday that the other direct purchases we've heard about recently were for other UYs. The person ahead of me on the waitlist is also waiting for April UY. I've been waiting 4.5 months and was close to the top of the list when I was added, so I have to believe the April UY is a big part of the holdup. I haven't completely ruled out resale, but direct is still our first choice and there isn't an April UY of the size that we wanted anyway (that isn't totally stripped). I really wanted to have the points in hand to book a Fall 2016 trip, so the clock is ticking!

You should have bought resale. I just closed on 100 points at VGF with an April Use Year, for significantly less than Disney was charging. Sorry you've been waiting so long!
