Two Germans Dine Deluxe Again ... (FINISHED!)

We've never tried Raglan Road but your meal looks really good :goodvibes

Shame your entree wasn't great, it's just the sort of thing I would have ordered, the description sounds delicious

Ooh the desserts look fab :cloud9:

Your Raglan road meal sounds nice. It is one of our favorite places there - though I know it gets mixed reviews.

BTW, the bread dipping sauce has a Guinness reduction in it and it is very good :goodvibes

That's too bad about your entree at Raglan Road! It sounded like it would be really good. Those desserts look fantastic though!

Hi everybody,

I'm terribly sorrky that I've been slacking in my reports - I have Kouzzina coming up in a minute and I am currently writing up Citrico's, so I will post that a bit later, as well. I promise to do better in the future! :upsidedow

This is the first review I've ever seen of Raglan Road that didn't include their bread pudding - that fruit platter looks perfect and not too heavy!

Thanks again for another great review - it probably won't become my favorite WDW restaurant, but I'm more and more tempted to try Raglan Road. :thumbsup2

I never really thought about the bread pudding, I guess it just didn't appeal to me that much. I don't really eat puddings much, anyway - the closest thing to pudding that I like would be mousse au chocolat, not sure if that qualifies at all ...

Yes, I definitely love the combo of those two desserts. The only one that's definitely even better, in my opinion, is the fried wonton skewers at Yak & Yeti :lovestruc.

You are so right, I totally forgot about the Guinness in the dipping sauce but now I remember how impressed we were when our server told us. Those Irish certainly know what to do with beer :dance3: ...

Great reviews!!! I've thoroughly enjoyed reading all of them this evening. :)

Thank you! I hope oyu haven't despaired of waiting for new reviews by now :rolleyes1

I really want to try Raglan Road. It looks fantastic! :thumbsup2

I hope you enjoy it!

I wasn't too disappointed about the entree as everything else was really good. But I will certainly not have that one again.

This morning, we were to revisit a place we had been on our last trip, only that the décor, menu and name had changed since:

Kouzzina by Cat Cora (incidentally, a person totally unknown in Germany – a famous cook with her own TV show, I gather?), the venue formerly known as Spoodles.

P1050575.jpg

This is now a Greek restaurant and we really enjoy Greek cuisine (mainly for the large amounts of very knowledgeably prepared and yummy meat :yay:). I just couldn't really fathom what Greek breakfast would be like, and was eager to find out.

This is me in the waiting area (where we had to wait for about eight seconds before being shown to our table):

P1050577.jpg

The actual restaurant is a large room with an open kitchen, almost empty at the time, and a bit too dark for my taste (this was in the morning, though - not sure if maybe the sun shines into the windows later in the day?).

We started by ordering some orange and grapefruit juice, a yummy Mega-Berry Smoothie (which is Raspberry Puree and Non-fat Yoghurt blended with Odwalla Berries GoMega, whatever that may be), and a coffee press pot similar to the one at Kona Café, except fr the fact that it was of course called Kouzzina Press Pot here.

The menu had all the regular breakfast stuffs, but also a few obviously more Greek- or at least Mediterranean-influenced items. We both decided on the same (sorry about that, as it means I will only be able to show you one dish):

P1050581.jpg

Spinach, Tomato, and Feta Scrambled Eggs - served with Breakfast Potatoes with Bacon.
This was very yummy and fresh, and a really nice change from the plain scrambled eggs we usually help ourselves to at breakfast buffets.

Not long after, we were off again for the day – but we noticed several tables outdoors on the Kouzzina patio, and talked about how we should have asked for one of those and sat outside in the fresh morning air. We decided we would definitely try and do that still on this holiday (as it turned out, we would be back the very next morning for it).

Coming up next: a super-early dinner at Citrico’s.

Enjoying your continued reviews!! Can't wait to hear about Citricos. :-)

Just a couple of thoughts - first, maybe you know this but by your post, I'm thinking maybe you don't - but bread pudding isn't "pudding" at all. It's more like cake. I think the word pudding here is used in the british sense as in dessert in general, as opposed to a specific milk based creamy dessert. Bread pudding is day-old bread soaked in milk and eggs and then baked - kind of souffle like, kind of cake like. So you might want to give it a try once if you have the chance. But maybe you knew this already and it still doesn't appeal.... :)

Secondly, Odwalla juice is a bottled juice you can buy in most grocery stores. It's not just plain juice, rather it's juice that has extra "healthy" stuff added - maybe antioxidants, vitamins, whatever. They have many different varieties. Here is a link to the Berries GoMega juice you refer to (it's on the left in the photo). It has flaxseed in it I guess.

That's it and I look forward to the rest of your reviews! Kouzzina was on my list of places to go for our next trip (74 days!!!!), but it got cut in favor of something else for this trip. Maybe next time.....

Thank you for your interesting comments, Bellamouse! :flower3:
No, I admit I hadn't known about the bread pudding, and it is really interesting to hear what that is REALLY about. Same for the Berries GoMega juice, didn't realize that Odwalla was a brand name, it sounded like some exciting African fruit to me :rolleyes1

For our last visit (in 2009), we had planned a dinner at Citrico's but had to cancel – therefore, this was our much awaited first time here.
As we had reservations for the Magic Kingdom Dessert Party this same night, I had scheduled our Citrico's ADR for really early (5.00 pm, right upon the restaurant's opening time) and we were planning to skip dessert and head over to the MK soonish.
Read now what happened instead :thumbsup2…

When we arrived, we had a little wait in comfy chairs in the foyer and were then escorted to our table which was really nicely located.

This was the view out the window from our table (everything in front is deceptively dark, but that was just my camera refusing to work as I wanted it to):

P1050647.jpg

And looking in the other direction, this was the view toward the open kitchen:

P1050648.jpg

A hidden Mickey made of brass pots:

P1050652.jpg

The restaurant was still almost empty, and our server arrived shortly. He was wonderful – friendly, professional, yet also a bit chatty (I like that! :)) and very knowledgeable about the menu and the wines.

P1050649.jpg

The menu (looks like we finally made it to Citrico's … ;))

P1050650.jpg

The bread basket. As usual, I didn’t take notes so I don’t know what kind it was, sorry! :sad2:

Unfortunately, the same holds true for the amuse-bouche we were served to start; I’m just not sure what it was. All I remember is that we liked it. This is what I get for waiting so long before I start my food reports, I know, I know. :upsidedow

P1050653.jpg

For drinks, we shared a large bottle of Pellegrino sparkling water and also ordered a little kind of "wine flight" by going with the menu recommendations both for the appetizer and the entrée.

This was my appetizer:

P1050655.jpg

Escabèche Frutti di Mare - Citrus-marinated Seared Rock Shrimp, Black Grouper, Prince Edward Island Mussels, and Lump Crab with Golden Beets and Meyer Lemon Oil, accompanied by a glass of Trimbach Gewürztraminer (I love Gewürztraminer, but I also fiendishly admit it was fun to hear our poor server battle with this typically German monster of a word :thumbsup2).

DH decided on this:

P1050656.jpg

Sautéed Shrimp with Lemon, White Wine, Tomatoes, and Feta Cheese.
He liked this very much, as he did the glass of Boutari Moschofilero, a nice dry Greek white wine.

I had chosen my main course according to our server's recommendation – I think this was also their signature dish:

P1050658.jpg

Grilled Atlantic Swordfish with Green English Pea Risotto, with a glass of Valpolicella.
Since we sat so close to the open kitchen and I could see the dishes that were placed on the counter ready for the servers to bring them to the tables, I could see that this was a very popular choice – a regular school of swordfish was gathered on the counter :).
Good for all of us – this was the perfect choice. The fish was tasty and moist, and the risotto (which I’m usually not such a fan of) went very well with it.

Meanwhile, DH was also very happy with his choice of entrée:

P1050657.jpg

Braised Short Ribs - creamy polenta, sautéed mustard greens, and blood orange demi-glace, with a glass of King Estate Pinot Noir.

While we ate, we leisurely watched the activity in the kitchen:

P1050661.jpg

All the while, we were having a great time. The setting was nice, our waiter was immensely friendly and attentive, the food was great and we were getting pleasantly tipsy from our wine. The restaurant was still quite empty, too, so it was nice and quiet and really romantic, and we spent a lot of time holding hands and gazing into each other’s eyes .

Everything being so wonderful, we simply could not bring ourselves to skip dessert or to hurry to the MK. We therefore decided that it would be enough if we arrived at the park right on time for the Fireworks Party, and could take our time here.

This is what I ordered:

P1050663.jpg

A generous portion of Tiramisu with Italian Galbani Mascarpone and Chocolate Sauce (don't you just love the chocolate writing on the plate?), and a nice warm frothy cup of cappuccino to go with it.

DH stayed true to his ever-crème-brulée-devouring nature and had this:

P1050662.jpg

Tropical Fruit Creme Brulee with mango, pineapple and passion fruit, also with a cup of cappuccino.
In keeping with the romantic theme of the evening, he spoon-fed me a couple of his raspberries – mmmh!

By now, we had spent about two and a half hours here and realized it was definitely time to head to the MK. When our server brought the bill, he also presented us with these:

P1050664.jpg

"Two straws for the two lovebirds". Awwww! :goodvibes (And by the way, that’s our wonderful server there in the background!)

To sum it up, this was a perfect meal and a perfect evening – and even though it is closely followed by the California Grill, Citrico's is our unanimous winner for "Best Restaurant Experience of the Trip" :lovestruc. We will definitely return!

Coming up next: You can never have enough dessert (or can you?) – the Fireworks Dessert Party …

So glad y'all enjoyed Citricos as much as we always do. It's always a great meal and always one of our favorites!

Just tuning in and enjoying every review thus far! You dined at many of the establishments we will visit later this month, so I'm loving it all! Your style is fun and informative. Great job! (My tummy is growling now!)

I'm glad you like Citricos...it's my favorite signature too!
That Swordfish with Pea Risotto looks amazing.

I once asked for one of those straws at Citricos and the serve brought me 4 - one of each color! :rotfl: I think the service there is part of what makes it so exceptional - the servers are really personable and try to make things really special for each guest.

I never realized that there were so many Citricos fans out there (and I am right now in thinking that it is written without an apostrophe, am I not? Looks like I always spelled it wrong before!).

Thank you - so is mine! :rotfl2:

That's so cute with the straws! And I agree about the servers, ours certainly played a big part in making this meal so exceptional to us.

Our wonderful dinner at Citricos had taken so long (not that it was a moment too long, of course :lovestruc) that it was almost already time for the Wishes Dessert Party .

We took the boat to the Magic Kingdom, had a really quick look around the shops to pass the last bit of time, and then went over to Tomorrowland Noodle Terrace where the party was to be.

Upon booking, we had been told to arrive 45 minutes before the start of the fireworks – we were right on time, but there were already lots of people on the terrace so it seems like they either opened early, or staggered the entry times to avoid congestion.

I knew that tables were assigned according to the order of booking – and as I had checked and re-checked these boards for ages waiting for booking to open, I was pretty sure I must have been one of the very first callers.
This must indeed have been true, because it turned out they had given us one of the three tables in the very front row facing the castle :yay:. A cute little sign saying “Welcome [our name] Family” (or party?) awaited us.
(Sorry, I did not really take many pictures at this stage anymore … :confused3)

There was a large dessert buffet in the back of the venue, and I know this sounds like such a waste, but I was feeling so full I could hardly imagine eating another bite. When I had booked this, DH had kept telling me so, but somehow I had thought we would be done at Citricos earlier, and skip dessert there, and generally be much hungrier again by the time we got here. Alas, not so. :sad2:

Just one picture of part of the buffet:

P1050671.jpg

I helped myself to a plate, a very modest amount of desserts and a cup of coffee, and had a seat at our table enjoying the view.

P1050676.jpg

We obviously had a great view of the castle, and could even see a little bit of the Main Street Electrical Parade going by in the distance (sadly, this was all we ever saw of it as we never managed to be at the MK at parade time again this whole holiday …).

Zooming in on a parade float – it almost looks like my beloved water pageant! SMILIE

P1050682.jpg

We knew that people were going to be allowed to stand at the railing when the fireworks started, so just before that time, we walked the few steps from our table to the railing and then had a wonderful view of the fireworks:

P1050708.jpg

We really enjoyed the view, and the dessert buffet would have been very nice as well, had I not been so gluttonously full already. Not totally sure if we would do this again – but if we do, we will definitely bring more of an appetite!

Coming up next: Kouzzina revisited (for yet another breakfast) …

Amazing view of the castle! I booked our dessert party and I'm excited about it! I was worried about being too full for desserts. We had a 6:40 reservation booked for Cinderella's Royal Table but I was actually able to move it up to 3:50. I think that will give us plenty of time to get hungry again - we'll just eat an early lunch and just have a granola bar or something for breakfast. I'm excited about the desserts ;)

Thanks for all the reviews! :goodvibes I am looking forward to the next Kouzzina review! Since we will be staying at the BW in October, maybe we will pop in there for breakfast one day... But the dish you had the first time round wasn't one I was thinking about, so I wonder what you will have the next time!! :goodvibes

Just found your review, have to go back now and start reading but from the few pages I glanced at the pics look wonderful :thumbsup2

Yes, with 3.50 I'm sure that you will be fine, and will have gotten back your appetite for dessert by the time the Fireworks Party starts. 5.30 was just not early enough for that ...

I'll post the next review in a minute - let's see if that is the dish you are thinking about? :)

Thank you and welcome to my dining report! :yay:

Today we had originally planned breakfast at 'Ohana at some almost ridiculously early time. However, when our alarm clock rang we looked at each other and decided that we needed another hours’ sleep even more than the delightful company of Lilo and Stitch – so out the window went that reservation :confused3.
In retrospect, I'm a bit sad not to have gone as we had really enjoyed it last time, and of course didn’t manage to get a reservation for any of the remaining days of this trip. Ah well, there is always next time :).

When we finally got up (still really early for being on holiday :upsidedow), we could have just gotten something from the shop but, on a whim, visited the concierge desk and asked if there was availability at Kouzzina instead.
Turned out there was! (And frankly, I don’t think it would ever be a problem – at least at slower periods of the year, which is all I can really say anything about – to get a table as a walk-in for Kouzzina breakfast, either.)

This was great, because this was our chance to try out their outdoor seating. Even getting there was really nice, as we had ourselves a leisurely stroll around the lake, from the Beach Club to the Boardwalk, in the refreshingly cool morning air. There were not many people around yet – mostly joggers -, and it was wonderfully calm and quiet.

Outdoor seating at Kouzzina is lovely in the morning:

P1050735.jpg

Just like the day before, we ordered some juices and a coffee press pot, then sat back and enjoyed the scenery. And of course, we each had a yummy breakfast to go with the view:

P1050738.jpg

The Stacked Kouzzina Breakfast - Two Poached Eggs, Kalamata Olive Toast, Artichoke Spread, and Sweet Potato Hash with choice of Bacon or Chicken Sausage. Very, very nice!

Even though it there were no characters and no special theming, this was our most enjoyable WDW breakfast so far – yummy food, totally laid-back atmosphere, fresh air and a Boardwalk view. For us, it doesn’t really get much better than that :goodvibes.

Coming up next: An early dinner at the Hollywood Brown Derby …
