Two first timers take on free dining...was it a success? 13-27 Sept 2011- Complete...

I agree with you about the tables at 1900PF, very tiny! It looks like you were at the same or right near where we sat. I also got tea and it was fun being brought the tea box, but again here there was just no room for it! I did like the strawberry soup but I think it's definitely a love it/hate it type of thing.

That slipper dessert looks so delicious!

Yum, 1900 Park Fare! Definitely one of my favorites. I'm sorry that you didn't like the strawberry soup. I could understand that it's something that could be an acquired taste.

I'm sorry you didn't like Tangierine Cafe either. I admit, it's not for everyone. But at least your chippies were good! Listen, I'm Belgian, so I know about how important good chips are (or frites, as we call them ). Nothing better than that.

Glad you enjoyed 1900 Park Fare! And woohoo on being early!!! Oooh I love Morocco! That looks so yummy! Sorry you didn't like it, but at least you got some yummy chips from the UK!! :thumbsup2

1900 park fare for breakfast was great.. We loved it. We loved the california grill for dinner. I had a sushi the waitress recommended and it was the best I ever had... We did deluxe dining, so we did two meals a day, a one credit breakfast or lunch, then mostly 2 credit dinners.. One day we had to eat b/l/d to use up the credits, it was too much food.. I just think Disney does it right and anywhere you eat is basically good..

Now, didn't you say in the PTR that you had been hinting to Zaheer that you wanted the Cindarella slipper dessert? did you have to break down and order it yourself or did he take the hints and get it for you?

Too cute that you went and got some chips at the UK pavilion. The fish is ok, but definitely does not come close to comparing to what you guys have. The first place I ever ate fish was in England in a lovely little pub, and I have been spoiled for life. Whenever I come across a menu here in America that has fish and chips featured that's what I get, and in all but a very few cases does it compare negatively against my lovely memories of UK fish and chips. I love how the little shops sell only fish and chips, and put everything in a newspaper, so the chips get a little softer, and the whole fish is just ready for the eating! Yum Yum Yum!

I'm with Zaheer on Tangierine Cafe. That platter looks sooo yummy. I wish I could reach out and start eating it now!

1900 PF is another place I've never been and is on my list to try. All looks great and chocolate slippers look super yummy and lovely! :lovestruc

I loved the theme of 1900 PF, it just seemed so comfortable. We did like the strawberry soup!

A day of rest can just be what you need!

I have found the fish & chips to be a hit and miss. A few years back, they were extraordinary, last year the chips were good, but the fish wasn't all that great. :(

Great reviews, Tanz.

We've never eaten at 1900 Park Fare (my DH refuses to even walk into the GF Resort :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: ). It does look rather yummy though.

I'm glad I was not the only one who did not like the counter service in Morocco. I'm glad I tried it, but I won't be back. Like you, that type of food just does not appeal to me.

I love the "chips" in United Kingdom. The fish is very good too. :thumbsup2

Great reviews again!

we have never been to Akershus, I just don't care about the princesses too much and the buffet food is not my cup of tea. ;)
Plus I am with you on the Tangerine Cafe food - didn't really care for it this summer either - the baklava was nice, but I have had better - we have an Egyptian shop where Tom delivers his mail and he sometimes brings home their home made stuff, which is to die for. :thumbsup2

Can't beat an English accent and some good ol' british chips, can they? Love them! My kind of soul food! ;)

Akershus was one of my favorite restaurants in 2010 when we went for super. But then in 2011 we went back for breakfast but did not enjoy it so much. Glad you guys had a great time. :thumbsup2

In 2009 we ate at 1900 Parkfare and I remember LOVING the breakfast over there. Better than Crystal Palace in my opinion but I hear a lot of mixed reviews now so I do not know if things have changed.... That cinderella slipper dessert looks AMAZING! :lovestruc It brings water to my mouth. Hmmmm

I am with Zaheer. Tangerina Cafe is one of my favorite counter services at Epcot and you are right the Moroccan pavillon is so beautiful!

I am glad you got to have a taste from home at the UK pavillon. It is one of my favorite pavillons for shopping BTW. ;) EVERY YEAR we say we are going to have some fish & chips but something happens and we never do it. :(

Can't wait to read more.

Q

We loved our dinner at Akershus as well. I seem to be hearing mixed reviews of the breakfast here - may have to try it one day just so we can experience both. However, given how much we enjoyed our dinner I may want to just return for this meal again.

We preferred CP over 1900 Park Fare. The food at 1900 PF was nice but the experience of CP just rated higher for us - it'll be coming up later. I may return for dinner as have been reading some great character reviews over on the trip report boards. Mmm that Cinderella Slipper Dessert was very yummy - my mouth is also watering thinking about it!

Each to their own - I guess Moroccan food just doesn't sit well with me. I do agree with you about the pavillion though - it is very pretty.

I'm glad you enjoy shopping at the UK pavillion - tbh the prices scared us! The stuff is way cheaper back home though I guess that's true of most pavillions! :rotfl: I hope you get to try the fish and chips one day - I can definitely say the chips were amazing!

1900 Park Fare looked great. That desert with the slipper looks amazing. Did that come as part of the buffet or was it extra? I love the happy anniversary touch :) I didn't realize that the Pooh characters were there too. They're among my favorites!

I'm so excited that I leave in 3.5 days! I'm taking notes of all the great food you guys ate.

1900 Park Fare was good but not our favourite breakfast buffet. The slipper dessert was amazing! It is extra ($15 plus tax) but I decided to treat myself. They can write any message you want so it is good for birthdays etc as well. I loved the Pooh characters and met them on quite a few occasions. 1900 Park Fare breakfast has them plus Alice, Mary Poppins and the Mad Hatter (who is great!)

:woohoo: on leaving in 2.5 days!!! Have a great trip and I look forward to hearing all about the food you eat.

Great update hon! I love breakfast buffets! I am one of those people that love the strawberry soup but I totally agree with you when it comes to falafels  just the thought of them makes me gag....sorry if that's too much information:lmao: After seeing that great shot of the tea, I'm going to go make myself one!!!

Thanks hun! They sure are great - I'm glad we planned in quite a few of them. I didn't think I would enjoy the strawberry soup but after all the reviews of it on here I wanted to at least try it. Lol no it's not too much information! I sort of knew I wasn't going to like it but at least I can now say I gave Moroccan food a chance. I hope you had a nice cuppa!!! I've just had my coffee fix so am good for a bit.

That slipper dessert looks so delicious!

It is really hard for parties of 2 to manage with such small tables. I noticed the larger tables for bigger parties were a bit better. You are right in that we were seated in similar spots. I'm not a tea drinker but that box even tempted me to try tea! Yeah, I agree in that I think you actually love or hate that strawberry soup - a bit like marmite!

The dessert was amazing! I could happily eat one right about now!

Yum, 1900 Park Fare! Definitely one of my favorites. I'm sorry that you didn't like the strawberry soup. I could understand that it's something that could be an acquired taste.

1900 Park Fare was great! My taste buds obviously aren't as open to new foods as Zaheer's are. I thought I was pretty good when it came to food but this trip made me notice that wasn't the case. I was happy that I gave everything a shot though.

Yeah, I don't think I will be returning to Tangierine Cafe any time soon! Mmm the chips were soo good! :cloud9: I'm sure all this talk about them will mean I will be making a stop at a local chippie soon  I agree - nothing better then chips/frites - I'm glad you understand the need for comfort food! :lmao:

Glad you enjoyed 1900 Park Fare! And woohoo on being early!!! Oooh I love Morocco! That looks so yummy! Sorry you didn't like it, but at least you got some yummy chips from the UK!! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I know - I think it's the first time I have been early for a reservation and that was only because I had the wrong time in my head!! :lmao: I loved your pics of Morocco but didn't like the food. I was happy to get my hand on some good old chips!!

Great reviews so far!!!:thumbsup2

:welcome: and thank you!!! :goodvibes

:welcome: I'm glad to read you loved 1900 Park Fare for breakfast and California Grill for dinner - both places are great! I'm not much of a sushi eater so stayed away from it. I did consider Deluxe dining but I knew it would be too much food for us. Big :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 on being able to manage it and am glad it worked out being the best plan for you. Most Disney food is good and I think it is great that there are so many choices - it means even those of us with not so great taste buds can enjoy our food.

Now, didn't you say in the PTR that you had been hinting to Zaheer that you wanted the Cindarella slipper dessert? did you have to break down and order it yourself or did he take the hints and get it for you?

Yes, you are right in that I had been dropping hints! However in the end I just asked him and he said he didn't realise that I wanted him to order it! :rolleyes1 :lmao: So I had to order it for myself. Maybe one day someone will order one for me.

Thanks - ooh that makes me feel better about never getting to try the fish. We sure are spoilt when it comes to fish and chips in the UK. I know all the good ones that are near us and the ones that aren't worth the bother  In that case you have to plan a trip to the UK again! Where did you visit in the UK? It is such a big place with so many cities. I laughed out loud at your newspaper comment!!! Some of our local chippies now use just plain paper - no more reading the news whilst eating your chips!! :lmao:

I'm with Zaheer on Tangierine Cafe. That platter looks sooo yummy. I wish I could reach out and start eating it now!

I thought you would be! That's okay - I feel the same over desserts and some other food!!

1900 PF is another place I've never been and is on my list to try. All looks great and chocolate slippers look super yummy and lovely! :lovestruc

I hope you get to try it one day...my advice is to go with a party of more than 2 as otherwise you will get a small table which becomes crowded! That slipper dessert was lovely and a nice way to end the meal :thumbsup2

I loved the theme of 1900 PF, it just seemed so comfortable. We did like the strawberry soup!

A day of rest can just be what you need!

The theme of 1900 PF was really good and apart from our table being small it was comfortable. Zaheer liked the strawberry soup but I didn't care much for it.

It was a great day and much needed! :thumbsup2

Awwwwww! The Cinderella Slipper Dessert is so adorable! Cute pictures with the characters!

Aaw thanks Wendy - it tasted lovely! The presentation of it made me a tiny bit guilty to be breaking into it. However, once the first spoon touched my lips the guilt quickly faded!!! :lmao:

Love the photos of the Cinderlla Slipper Dessert - so cute

Thanks - it was cute until I broke it! :rotfl: I told the Mad Hatter I had just demolished my slipper and his response was 'Demolished!! A slipper is to be worn not to be demolished!!' :lmao:

I have found the fish & chips to be a hit and miss. A few years back, they were extraordinary, last year the chips were good, but the fish wasn't all that great. :(

:welcome: and thanks for letting me know that about the fish and chips. I guess I was lucky on my first visit. I hope the luck continues ;)

Great reviews, Tanz.

We've never eaten at 1900 Park Fare (my DH refuses to even walk into the GF Resort :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: ). It does look rather yummy though.

Thanks Kathy.

:rotfl2: at your DH refusing to walk into the GF resort!!! Now that you are going away with the girls maybe you could plan it in. I have read some great reviews of little princesses being treated like royalty at 1900 PF dinner. The food was yummy.

I think you need to have certain types of taste buds to enjoy Moroccan food. I guess you and I just don't have them!

Them chips were great and trust me I have tried my fair share of chippies! I'm glad you enjoy the fish as well.

Great reviews again!

Can't beat an English accent and some good ol' british chips, can they? Love them! My kind of soul food! ;)

Thanks Karin!

I can understand why you have never been to Akershus. I liked that the dinner had the buffet but then you could order a main of your choice as well :thumbsup2

I never tried the baklava after being so disappointed with the main platter. I left Zaheer to indulge in it whilst I went to get my chips. Maybe I should give that type of food another chance but at a place like the Egyptian shop you described - just have to find one now!

I was so happy to hear the English accent and have some good ol' home made chips - sure can't beat it!! ;)

Yes, you are right in that I had been dropping hints! However in the end I just asked him and he said he didn't realise that I wanted him to order it! :rolleyes1 :lmao: So I had to order it for myself. Maybe one day someone will order one for me.

What is this? He wasn't even paying attention at the hint dropping :sad2:

I absolutely agree with you, I need to go back. The UK is hands down one of my favorite places in the world. I've had the good fortune to visit three times. Unfortunatley I did not discover the absolute deliciousness of fish until the third visit. Now I did indulge in chips, but am sad at the loss of so many meals I could have enjoyed. The first two visits were vacations, so I have no idea what towns we stopped in without looking back at notes. But the third visit I stayed for a semester of college in a lovely little town called Bracknell. There was the most magnificent little fish & chip shop that I'd walk to at least once a week if not more. Plain paper, hmmm, I guess there must be change in the world. I haven't been there since 2003, so I think another trip is in order sometime soon.

What is this? He wasn't even paying attention at the hint dropping :sad2:

Sadly no :sad2: Oh well at least I got to try it for myself and am glad I asked him before our trip.

Also sorry for the late response - have had a bit of a manic couple of days!

Although I am a bit biased I agree in that UK is a great place to live in despite the rain we get! That's a shame about not discovering our delicious fish until the third visit but hey better late then never!

Ooh am glad you stayed at Bracknell - how cool to come to the UK for college. I would have loved to have studied at another place during college. I had the opportunity to go to Italy but never took it :sad2:

Let us know if you ever visit in the future :thumbsup2

I woke up and left Zaheer sleeping today. I went to Everything Pop and got myself a chocolate croissant with coffee (no pic - sorry). I read my notes and waited for Zaheer who was having a lie-in. He decided he wanted to eat at DTD so off we went.

Zaheer had the vegetable pizza and creme brulee from WPE for his brunch - I wasn't feeling too good so stuck to water. I did try one slice of the pizza but couldn't have any more.

We spent today at Disney Quest and went to Candy Cauldron on our way back to the bus. We didn't get anything but did stop for some pics.

DSCF1500-1.jpg

For our evening meal we were dining at Captain's Grille at The Yacht Club. We took the bus to DHS and got the boat from here. It was a nice relaxing ride.

We checked in and had a couple of minutes wait during which we snapped some photos.

595-1.jpg

We both chose the Captain's Grille experience which meant we could have an appetiser, entree and dessert. I had not eaten since breakfast so was hungry.

We were given bread and butter which was very nice and I ate most of it.

599-1.jpg
598-1.jpg

For our appetisers I chose the Lump crab cakes with house made tartar sauce and Zaheer chose the Green Goddess Salad. They were both very nice. I cleaned my plate and could have happily eaten more. Zaheer enjoyed his salad as well - again I'm sorry but I can't seem to find a photo of it.

604-1.jpg

We both went for the Market Fish which was good but I enjoyed the fish at Akershus more.

605-1.jpg

For dessert I chose strawberry gelato which was good and Zaheer got the chocolate terrine on our servers recommendation. His dessert was delish and he enjoyed it thoroughly.

Food - A- Loved it all but just preferred the fish dish we had eaten at Akershus
Service - B Our server was good but we noticed that she was more attentive with people that weren't on the dining plan. We had to wait a short time before getting our plates cleared and ordering the next course.
Atmosphere - C Didn't really feel comfortable whilst eating as we were put in a corner with a big family next to us.
Would we return? No. It was good to try but I think we would rather dine at other places.
