Hi everyone, I am not a DVC owner but looking forward to our first stay at SSR in Jan 07 (booked via AAA Vacations).

We are going as a family of five, and getting a Two-Bedroom Villa in SSR. I made request via AAA, as I hope to be in The Springs section and non-smoking rooms.

Now I learned there are two types of Two-bedroom villas: "Dedicated 2-Bedroom" & "2-Bedroom Lock-off". I am not really concerned which one I will get, but what I really need is three beds in two rooms - therefore the ideal case might be a "dedicated bedroom" - King bed in a room and Two Queen bed in the another.

What if they assign a "Lock Off" to us? Will we only get two beds? Please advice.

You can request a dedicated 2 BR. That one does have 3 beds. I requested for my April trip myself. I believe if it's booked that way it's pretty much guaranteed. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. I think that the only requests that aren't guaranteed are requests in a specific section or smoking or non-smoking.

I don't think non DVC reservations are given any lock offs.

If you booked a 2 bedroom, unless there is a reason such as all 2 bedroom dedicateds are full, you should get the dedicated.

You're either booked into a "dedicated" room or you aren't. It is more than a simple request. For inventory purposes they need to track how many "dedicated" and how many "lock-off" reservations are reserved.

I'd suggest checking with the TA to see if they can tell you what sort of room is booked in your name.

Here are some notes about the differences between a dedicated and lockoff.

Dedicated SSR 2B:
* One King + Two Queen Beds
* One balcony
* Extra closet space in 2nd bedroom (no kitchenette)
* Single entrance to room
* One thermostat
* One telephone line (rings all phones)

Lockoff SSR 2B:
* One King, One Queen plus full size sofabed
* Two balconies
* Kitchenette in 2nd bedroom
* Two entrances to room (main living area and 2nd bedroom)
* Two thermostats
* Two telephone lines (one rings living space and master bedroom, other rings second bedroom)

Sammie is correct. We were told by MS that "lock off" units can only be booked with points. We're DVC members and they wouldn't let us book one with cash or even a combination of points & cash.

Thank you everyone. This is how it is printed on my AAA Vacation Invoice:

PROPERTY NAME: SARATOGA SPRINGS
ROOM TYPE & LOCATION: 2 BED ROOM VILLA (REQUESTED BUILDING 14 - THE SPRINGS)
NUMBER OF ROOMS: 1 BEDROOM (KING BED) / 2ND ROOM WITH 2 QUEENS NON-SMKING

My TA said she never heard about "lock-off" - she said she typed in the same specifications as she read from the AAA brochure. So, I think Sammie is correct (since that's what I really want) - "lock-off" is not available to non-dvc owners.

As mentioned, I need 3 beds. I think in anycase, there is a sofa bed in the living room for sure? How big/comfortable is the sofa bed?

There is for sure a sofa bed in the living room.
I think it is full size, but it might be queen - it is at least a full size.

The sofa beds are actually pretty comfy.

Master Bedroom - King Bed
Living Room - Queen Sleeper Sofa
2nd Bedroom - 2 Queen Beds (Dedicated) or 1 Queen and 1 Full Sleeper Sofa (Lock-off)

Lockoffs are a combination of a studio and a 1 BR; therefore, lockoffs have a foldout couch in the second bedroom. My kids never had any problems with it in terms comfort.
