Two bedroom stay- advice

My inlaws will have a car of their own with them, but I am worried about them parking at the TTC and having to monorail in with a big crowd, parking far away in any parking lots and taking trams, etc. I think they'll hate that and complain. Sensing a trend? So I think WDW transport to parks is the goal, but it will be nice if they want to leave and get out on their own on pool days or if they need a break. I think we will look at BWV, BLT or poly. Thanks

LOL. If they’ll complain about a parking lot tram, they’re going to complain about the buses too. I’d look at Poly or BLT as a first choice, then, assuming MK is your priority park. Walk or monorail to MK, monorail to Epcot, drive or bus to DHS and AK. That will likely generate the least complaining. ;-)

Maybe also look at the two Wilderness Lodge DVCs for an MK-centric trip. The boats to MK are almost an attraction of their own, and WL has some nice scenery and can be pretty peaceful. You’ve only got bus or drive to the other three parks, though.

If you’re going to spend more time at Epcot and/or DHS, then go with BWV. That gets you with walk or boat to two parks, bus to MK, bus or drive to AK.

If you choose to go 2BR and want easier transportation, I would suggest BLT. BLT 2BR's have 3 bathrooms, one in each bedroom and one in the common area, as well as a full laundry room. Between the extra bathroom and proximity to MK/monorail to Epcot, BLT is a nice choice for what your needs are. I prefer other resorts, including BWV, BCV, and those would be great choices too.

My vote is for BLT 2br. You may not be preparing full meals, but it is nice to have the full fridge for snack, drinks, and leftovers (and maybe the freezer for frozen breakfast items). Having the extra bathroom is nice too. If you have nights when you aren't in the parks, you can find lots of places to watch the MK fireworks from too.

The choice for a 2BR v/s 2 studios is totally up to you.

A DVC 2BR is (usually) a 1BR/Studio lock-off. That is a full studio connected to a full 1BR. The acquisition of the studio is usually the sticking point for cheap view 2BRs, so you should probably not plan for a standard view anywhere. A 2BR will get you a living room with 1-2 pullout beds, a full kitchen and in-room laundry. You have probably already experienced the studio side but the 1BR side has a single king sized bed in the bedroom and a jacuzzi tub in the bath. Your family would probably be more comfortable in the studio side because there are enough sleeping surfaces for you and your kids without sticking them in the living room which cuts into adult time there.

You will be able to book 2 studios if you want. You can request that they be near each other, but (AFAIK) the only resort where they can actually be connected is the Polynesian. So, most DVC resorts as sets of studios/1BRs next to each other. They will try to get you close, but it's really only a request so you may not be as close as you want. If you want some more autonomy from your in-laws, I would go with that. It's also approximately 1/3rd cheaper as a 1BR is approximately twice the number of points than a studio and a 2BR is slightly less than a booking a 1BR and studio separately.
If you’re paying cash for a 2 Bedroom (not renting points from a DVC member) a 2 Bedroom will ALWAYS be dedicated not a lock off. My family has paid cash about 5 times for DVC and we only get dedicated. I would highly recommend a 2 Bedroom at Bay Lake Tower for ease to get to both MK via walking, and Epcot via monorail. If they don’t want to do busses, rent a car and drive to Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom.

It probably isn't realistic to think you are going to get a "deal" on a Boardwalk standard view two bedroom - or two studios. When they are booked for spec rentals (i.e. the owner of the points doesn't have a rental in hand) they go for as much as any other BW room. And its nearly impossible for owners to book them - so finding an owner willing to try - and then succeeding - is pretty low probability. So if you want a "near parks resort" open your mind to BCV as well as BWV, plan on BWV Preferred View, or the Wilderness Lodge resorts (which are busses to everywhere but MK, where its a boat.) Or budget for one of the more expensive pointwise resorts. Staying near the parks isn't cheap. Or book OKW or SSR and budget for a car rental or regular Uber/Lyft rides.
