I really appreciate how great you are with my so-newbie-I'm-still-wet-behind-my-ears questions:
1. Does Universal have a bag check line like WDW does?
2. For those of you who carry cameras, phones, etc in the parks, how do you keep them dry? I usually use a ziploc, but didn't know if there was anything better?

1. Yes they have the bag check line.

2. I also use a baggy. I wore my bathing suit there with pockets on the side and had them in that inside the baggy. My mom also bought a mans bathing suit bottom for that reason she held my phone for me last time I went with her and nothing bad happened. They also have the side pockets with velcrow or zipper so if you go on the hulk etc less chance of it falling out.

I use a ziplock as well and have never had a problem with them getting wet. I carry the bag in my backpack which is not waterproof.

The bag check is set up differently. If you are coming from the parking lot, it is done right before the moving sidewalks where the garages converge. From the onsite hotels, it is done where the path ends to the City Walk area... though they are not super strict here. If you use the water taxis, they check your bags before you board.

Also, a lot of the rides do not allow you to bring a bag on. You will need to "rent" (some time free) a locker for Men in Black, Mummy... and I would assume the coasters at IOA, but I don't bring a bag to Universal anymore, so I don't remember....

They check your bags before you board water taxis coming from the resorts and Citywalk? I was there a couple years ago and they weren't doing this.

the point is there is no check line by the entrances. there are other places well away from the entrances where you get checked. there are only about three ways to get to the parks, and they do have people checking. i would say the boats are about 50\50 as far as checking, and the walking path from the hotels is about 75\25 checking.

i have never in the 18 stays at the on site hotels have had my bags/purse/etc checked when i have used the water taxi. i go yearly.

the lockers are free when you use the ride.
if the line is long and your time limit is up when you return to the locker, ask the tm to open it for you. they are aware of time delays when you are on a specific ride.

We had bags checked to go on the water taxi this year at both Portofino and Royal Pacific.
If we walked, they were checked at the end of the walkways to the parks.

maybe it is because of the time period you go but i never had a bag check on the water taxis.

there is a bag check after the path lane ends. before it empties into the open area in front of the park, you are checked there.

I don't remember a bag check on the taxis in years past, so it may be new this year.

Its probably because they know you!

"Hey, its Mac! Welcome aboard Mac! Don't worry about your bags, we know your safe!"

We were checked everytime by both boat and path.

"Hey! Here comes that patster guy! Be sure to check his bags. He sure looks like a seedy character!"

I stayed at HRH two weeks ago and my bag was checked upon boarding the water taxi. This has been happening in the past year of my stays there (I am a local and when family visits, we stay at Universal). I will concede they are inconsistent with the checks, but it is supposed to happen. I know there is a sign posted somewhere (probably right near the boats) at RPH that says something to that effect...

the only time last year and the year before i was checked, was not for a bag.

once it is midnight, the water taxi TM's enforced the rule and we all had to show our hotel key to get on the water taxi.

this happened to me on the 2 nights i stayed at hhn when it got over at midnight.
the other 2 nights when the park closed at 2 in the morning after hhn, i walked back to the room.
water taxi had already made its last run of the shift.

i'm sure there are many who have not encountered that.
it seems like some TMs differ on the id check policy.

we were there in october and the only time we got bag checked (we didnt have any with us at this time) was going into HHN. never on the ferries or on the walkways to the parks
