Two Aussie first-timers in Disney! Lots of photos! NEW- FINAL CHAPTER! - Ch 20, Pg 30

I am a fan of cheese popcorn so I do see the attraction! I have had some that is better than others. You seem to love it so much it made me want to send you some! Or can you find it at home now?
Really looking forward to hearing about the other places that you visited.:yay:

I loved Wishes too, but not as much as Fantasmic! And IllumiNations just didn’t even compare to either of them. Looking back, I was a bit underwhelmed with IllumiNations actually. But Fantasmic, I adored!

We're like park twins! The Studios is my favorite, too. And I feel the EXACT same way about Fantasmic! I just got chills RIGHT NOW thinkng of Mickey on top of that mountain...

I can't wait to read the rest of your trip report! I'm so curious if you liked Washington DC and New York, because I've been there as well :)

Please don't stop the trip report here, want to hear about the rest of your holiday.
Also, can you put me out of my misery and explain what s'mores are? They look like meringue to me but I can't be sure and I don't like to miss out on any food....................popcorn::

I cant wait to read about your time in NY. I am so close to the city yet I never go. I think you will probably have seen and done more things than I have......so sad really:rolleyes:

I know how that last day at Disney can feel:sad1: . I can already feel it and my 9 day trip is still months away! go figure:sad2: . DH thinks I have lost it a little as he figures when it over it over oh well (sigh):scared1: AS you can see he does not share my disney love.........ok! ok! what I wanted to say is that he does not share my disney obsession:lmao:

Try looking for it under the odd sock mountain in your wash room....:lmao:

I Think it's in the drawer under the china cabinet. Or on the top shelf of the spare room closet.

:grouphug: I'm sad the Disney portion of your trip is done but I'm looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip :)

Also, can you put me out of my misery and explain what s'mores are? They look like meringue to me but I can't be sure and I don't like to miss out on any food....................popcorn::

S'mores are delicious! They are a graham cracker, chocolate and marshmallow treat.

AussieAngel, still enjoying your TR!:thumbsup2

S'more are supposed to be a campfire treat. You toast a marshmallow over the fire and make it all gooey. You have a graham wafer with a square of chocolate on it ready for the hot marshmallow. You cover the marshmallow with another graham wafer, sandwiching it in between (am I being clear enough?).... then you eat :goodvibes A real s'more looks nothing like that concoction on her plate in the photo.

i'm sad that your disney stuff is over, but i'm excited about savannah!!! DH and i live just north of atlanta and we go to savannah AT LEAST once every year. we love it! it's so romantic!!! i can't wait for your impression of it!

Hi "AA" - just a quick reply since I have to get ready for work:sad2: !
Sorry to hear of the end of your Disney portion of your holiday, but I would also love to hear of the rest of your trip! I am on the countdown now (OK, so it's 6 months..;) ), but I am getting really excited! I sometimes think I'm getting a bit too old for that - but who cares, right!
I'm with you re the jumping spiders - I've never heard of them here, either! So, everyone, don't let that put you off coming Down Under..:upsidedow !!

Awaiting your next instalment...:rolleyes1

Heather

PS I think you asked a while back whether I was a teacher - and no, I'm not. Customer Service at Brisbane Airport allows me to go to WDW!!

Hiya all! popcorn::

ILMICKEY... I will definitely tell you all about the rest of our trip after Disney!! I won't put in at much detail though, because I don't remember every detail! We scribbled in a travel diary most days, but nothing like the detailed notes I wrote while we were at Disney! I'll do a different post about each place we visited - how's that sound? :)

A fat English gent... Let me go and look under that sock pile for my missing Mickey & Minnie Christmas decoration... Nope, not there either!! Thanks for the suggestion though!!

It's weird though, because we moved house (and cities!) last November, and since then, there's random things we can't find. Like the Mickey & Minnie decoration, and also my Anchorman DVD, and also my Sound of Music DVD! Either our removalists had weird taste and pinched some of our stuff, or we packed them in a random box, and the box is still hiding in a cupboard somewhere! Heh! Oh well.

southernbohemian... I love your idea about going back to Disney just to buy another Sorcerer Mickey!! Sounds like a good reason to me!! :thumbsup2

buffy0214... You're right! What better place to be a big kid than at Disney!! We were big kids all week! Such fun!

Sue88... Oh yay, another cheese popcorn lover!! I find cheese popcorn around very rarely in Australia, but it's definitely not as good as American cheese popcorn! It was so cheesy over there!! popcorn:: There was a gourmet popcorn store in New York that we found too, and I bought some every day while we were there. Hehee! I looked on ebay once, and you can buy a bulk lot of cheese popcorn flavouring from the US, but I don't think I'll go that far. Hopefully they'll have some good cheese popcorn in Hawaii, when we go there on our honeymoon in January!! :thumbsup2

lamagique... Ooh, glad you love Fantasmic and MGM too!! Park twins, ha!! I love it! :rotfl2:

Marjol... Hey, I'll get to the Washington and New York parts soon, I promise!! I'll give you a sneak preview though... We really liked Washington, and we loooooooved New York and wanted to live there forever!!! :woohoo:

lisaj... I won't stop the report here, don't worry! I think other people explained the S'mores thing to you... Basically it's marshmallow and melted chocolate layered inside a cookie, that you melt over a fire. Except the one at 50's Prime Time was a yucky old dry cracker, with some hard melted chocolate, and marshmallows which were sticky and dry, if that's even possible. No good at all!

missmun52... Hey, you can't feel sad about the last day of your trip yet!! You've got the whole adventure ahead of you!! Hehee! :yay:

Marion... Ooh, let me check the china cabinet for the missing Disney Christmas decoration... Whoops, we don't have one. It's officially a mystery!! And thanks for your S'mores explanation, too. That's exactly what I was hoping for when I ordered S'mores! Unfortunately, my s'mores were definitely nothing like what you described! Hehee!

Disney Dreaming... Glad you're still enjoying the report!! :thumbsup2

punkin413... Lucky you! You get to go to Savannah once a year! Wow! We just loved it there! But more on that in my next chapter!!

hjd0411... Hey, you're never too old to get excited about a holiday! And 6 months isn't that far away... I'm sure it will go really quickly, in the end!! Plus, the planning and the organising is half the fun!! :surfweb:

Glendamax... Eeek! It's standard in Australia to get 4 weeks paid leave each year, and 10 days paid sick leave. In most companies, if you don't use your leave, they get rolled over to the next year, which is how DF managed to take 7 weeks off - because he hadn't taken time off in a long time! I'm a teacher, so our holidays are different... we get about 10 weeks, but only in normal school holiday time. Yahoo! Last year when we went to America though, I wasn't working full time, so I just took unpaid leave.

When we were in America, most people just couldn't believe that we were on a 7 week holiday. I guess it's because we get more leave?? But also, I think it's more common in Australia to take a couple of months off work and go overseas. It's just what happens when you're in your 20's! Maybe that doesn't happen so much in America?? Just a cultural difference, I think! :confused3

Anyway, I'll have the next chapter up tomorrow, hopefully! :yay:

Before I tell you how much leave I get a year, imagine a slow sad violin playing softly :charac2:

3 weeks of vacation a year, NO rollover
5 sick days
2 personal days
:charac2:

Glendamax

Yeah I do get 4 weeks leave per year, and I haven't taken leave for a while so by the time we go I'll have enough time stored up!

7 weeks is a long time to take all at once though...even though i'm sure i'd be allowed to take it off anyways considering how much notice i've given, I've said that my partner and I are getting married in Vegas while we're there too! That way they can't argue really! And now that Disney are all for gay marriages, maybe we'll do it there!! (No not really - i don't make enough money to do that!)

I guess it is common for Aussies to take long holidays because we're SO FAR AWAY from the rest of the world - when we do venture over, we may as well make the most of it!

Oh and for the record! - Sydney is not nearly as dry as Melbourne! I went to Melbourne a few weeks ago (i used to live there - I was a rave DJ back in the day! AussieAngel - you ever been to Hard Kandy?!)...and i could not believe how dead everything was! Parks that were once lush and green look more like a desert. You guys can't water your gardens or lawns ever, wash your car, or take showers longer than 4 minutes! We're on water restrictions too though - but not that severe. They keep going on saying it's the worst drought in history. Do you think that perhaps this is no drought (10 years now), and just a result of global warming? I think so!

Anyways, global guilt trip over!

AussieAngel - We're staying at Port Orleans French Quarter.

One really good part of my job is that i get half price accommodation at 5-star hotels globally!! So we're going in style baby!! My job has such awesome perks it's not funny! I work for the number 1 Champagne company in the world! Any guesses? It starts with an M....

Sorry guys. That was mean!

Ohhh, Glendamax! Your amount of leave isn't too bad - only one week less than us! But the no rollover thing isn't much fun. Poor Glendamax! But on the other hand... you're so much closer to Disney World than us!! You could go every year for 3 weeks if you wanted to!! Yayyy! And also, in America you get to eat as much cheese popcorn as you want, and you get to shop at Abercrombie & Fitch, and you get zillions of tv channels, and you have the Cheesecake Factory, and you have Hersheys peanut butter cups!! AND you have Brad Pitt and David Duchovny!! What more could one ask for!?!

starlucks... I agree with your thought that Australians have long trips overseas because we're so far away from everything that we should make the most of our flights - also because the flights are so expensive! When you're over there, you may as well stay for as long as you can! Also, wow! Are you really getting married to your partner in Vegas!? That's exciting!! Yay! Will you have a big party when you get back to Australia?

And nope, I haven't been to Hard Kandy, but how fun that you used to be the dj! Lastly... yep, I agree with you about the drought / global warming. I think it's a combination of both, really. I think the drought has been made worse because of global warming. But... I also think the drought will break! I just have a feeling that later in the year we'll have lots and lots of rain. But we'll always have to be careful with water, I think. It will never go back to how it was, with kids playing in the sprinklers. :sad2:

Anyway, that's my little essay over!! :woohoo:

Okay--I FINALLY caught up!

Thank you for sharing your Blizzard Beach adventure! I've never been, personally, because I don't really care for swimming. I mean, I CAN, I just choose not to. :rotfl2: But it's nice to hear what I've been missing. ;)

Next time you go to 50's Primetime, you need to go with me. I will happily eat all your greens. I love those things and would have had two helpings, if I could! I was contemplating lending my greens eating services to those forced to eat their veggies on our trip. And, no, they are not supposed to taste like cigarettes. Maybe you got a bad batch.

I can't wait to read about the rest of your trip. Of all the cities you'll be visiting, I've only been to Savannah. Which was great. But I'm very interesting in reading of your adventures in those unknown (to me) cities!

And kudos to your DF for getting on that Star Wars thing! He'd have been kicking himself if he left without a photo of himself on one. I mean, when else would he get the chance?

Great installments, my friend!

I loved the Disney portion! Can't wait for the next installment! I'm sure you have a good story to tell from your train trip to Savannah! ;)

PHEW...I finally got through all 20 pages and I must say this is one of the best TR's I've read. So many things I found in common I can't even remember them all :lmao: I just remember saying "OMG I felt that way too" Anyways, lovin every minute of it and can't wait to hear about all your other adventures too. I'm in Buffalo which is near Niagara Falls so can't wait to hear about the engagment happening so close to me :)

Oh yeah--me and your kitty have the same name...it's just such a great name :thumbsup2

Aussie Angel, Disney Dreaming and Marion thanks for explaining s'mores, they look better than they sound!
Aussie Angel glad to hear there is more to come!

I will gladly trade you Brad Pitt for Hugh Jackman :cloud9: As for David Duchovny all I can say is "God Bless America"! What a hunk!

Your trip has been so much fun - thank you for sharing it with us. I've never been to Savannah so I can't wait to hear all about it. Will there be food photos as well? :lmao: I'm drooling in anticipation. :rotfl2: After seeing your photos from Raglan Road (I hope that's the correct name) it's now on my "must do" list for my November trip.

My dh and I have been fortunate to travel to Hawaii several times. It is truly paradise. Do you know where you are staying yet? Are you going to all of the islands?

Can't wait for more!
