Hi All
New sections may be delayed as I'm off tomorrow to go and take care of my mom who just had spinal surgery. Yikes! I'm going to try and setup her wireless network while I'm there and if I can get that working, than I'll do updates while she's sleeping. How's that for an addict? :rotfl2:

I just remembered though that I forgot to mention a big thing that happened after we did our Segway tour. We rode Spaceship Earth, ya know, the "Slow Moving Ride" as they kept telling us over and over again. Well, it was so slow that it stopped. The Wife leaned her head over to my shoulder for a snuggle while the ride was stopped (because she's cute that way) and her REI soft brimmed hat fell off her head and onto the tracks behind us. Woops. She secured her hat on all of the fast rides, but on a slow one, the ride ate it!

She notified the CM at the end of the ride about her hat and also let them know at Guest Relations. Guest Relations told her to check in with them at the end of the day and/or go to Lost and Found at TTC the next day. She was not a happy Disney camper as she really liked that hat.

There is a bit of Disney Magic in all of this though. We went to a store to get her a replacement hat and the CM there felt badly for her and gave her a free baseball style hat with a Mickey on it! How nice of him! It's a cute hat too.

However, The Hat Incident continued thoughout the rest of the week. (dumm de dumm dumm) More to come.

I was just thinking of how your mom was feeling. Know that we're thinkin' of ya!

Thanks for the concern about my mom. She had a spinal chord decompression as well as a spinal fusion done. Her recovery has been hampered by the incision site becomming infected, so she may need another surgery to clean out the infection. It's a day by day thing at this point.

However, I'm working on getting the next installment of the trip report up and will hopefully do so this weekend. :)

Great TR! It sounds like you had a great time, despite some "un-pixie dusted" moments!!

Can't wait to read more... :wave2:

This is a fun trip report. Thanks for sharing! Best wishes for your mom's recovery :)

Great report! Love the photos and the Segway report, they look like so much fun!

Enjoying your report and pics. Can't wait to read more.

I hope your mom is getting better and doesn't need more surgery.

Day Five, Wednesday 3-29-06 Magic Kingdom

Me: Female, 36 only 2nd time at WDW.

Wife: Female, 46, used to live in Florida and visited WDW all the time.

Premium Package: including 3 TS or CS meals per day, unlimited recreation
and selected tours.

Today was a very special day! I had been planning a special surprise for the Wife for months and had a very difficult time not telling her what it was. The wife was out of the country for her birthday last year and didn’t really get to celebrate her birthday. So, I decided that this was going to be her Birthday Day! I am a horrible secret keeper. However, this time, I managed to do it.  She knew that something was up today, but she didn’t know what.

First though, we had 9:30 ADR’s for Lilo and Stitch Breakfast at O’hana. Stitch is the wife’s favorite character, so I certainly wanted her to have her special day start with Stitch! I even got her a Stitch T-shirt to wear for the day.

We hauled ourselves out of bed around 8:30 and caught the bus to the Magic Kingdom. From there, we grabbed the monorail to the Polynesian. It was quite an easy trip. Getting from resort to resort takes a bit of planning and time, but it’s really not a big deal.

We walked into the Polynesian and were hit by a wall of people. Damn this place is crowded in the morning! I waited in the long line to check in, while the wife found an empty chair to collapse into. I finally got to the front of the line, only to find out that they didn’t have our ADR! Panic time! The CM told me that they were full that morning and not taking any walkups. Thankfully I had my trusty print-out of all of our confirmation numbers and so we were able to be seated at our original ADR time. Phew, first crisis of the day adverted. I also made sure to tell the CM that it was the wife’s birthday, so she got to wear a flower lei.

We were seated within 15 minutes of checking in and it was a blessing to get out of the loud lobby. Why do parents let their little darlings run in very crowded locations, screaming like banshees? I highly doubt that they are allowed to do that at home. At least I hope not!

Anyway, we escaped the banshees and were seated at a table right next to where the firepit is. It was a great table and we had a very nice waiter. He brought us coffee and orange juice as well as a large platter of fresh fruit and muffins. The fruit was excellent, very juicy and perfectly ripe.

Stitch, Lilo, Mickey and Pluto were making their rounds and it was fun to watch them interact with people. At one point, Stitch was on the far side of the restaurant and apparently it was time for Stitch to take a break. Well, he didn’t want to and was running away from his CM. The CM picked Stitch up and carried him off stage! It was so funny!

While we were watching all of this, our breakfast platter arrived with Mickey waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. I thought that the waffles and the scrambled eggs were the best. The wife was still having tummy troubles, so she didn’t eat much.

We got our pictures taken with all of the characters and within an hour of being seated, we were ready to head over to the Magic Kingdom!

I had been planning with Jane of Gifts of A Lifetime or an appropriately named Gift of a Lifetime for the wife. I don’t want to tell the details here because I don’t want to ruin the fun for someone else. I can HIGHLY recommend Gifts of a Lifetime for any incredibly wonderful surprise that you’d like to do for a loved one. All of their pixies were perfect and the whole event was absolutely amazing.

The trick of the day was getting the wife to the Wishing Well by the castle at 11:30, which is where and when the event was going to start. We were a little early, so I stalled by taking pictures of Dumbo and slowly meandering towards the castle.

Finally, we got to the wishing well and the start of her surprise.

The wife was thrilled and both of us enjoyed participating in the event. If you’d like more information on this, feel free to PM me.

We rode Buzz Lightyear and the Haunted Mansion as part of the event. I love the Haunted Mansion and for once, we didn’t get stuck in the ride!

The event ended back at the Wishing Well where Birthday Presents were waiting for the wife. I had gotten her Disney Stock from One Stock and a personalized Pluto watch from the Disney Store. She loved both gifts. Yeay!

While we were on the event, we had stopped at the Liberty Tree Tavern and made lunch ADR’s for 1pm. So after dropping the gifts off at the front of the park so we didn’t have to lug them around all day, we headed over to LTT for a delicious lunch.

LTT is our favorite place to eat in the Magic Kingdom and we weren’t disappointed. Since we’re on the Premium plan, we get an appetizer, entrée, dessert, non-alcoholic drink (soda, tea ect) and a “specialty drink” like a smoothie or latte with each meal.

We each got ice tea, mine not-sweet, the wife’s sweet. This is the only place in the MK where you can get sweet tea and the wife absolutely loves it. She also got the Patriot’s Punch, which is an orange ice type drink. It’s very cold and very good.

For lunch, I had the crab cake appetizer (scrumptious)
FoodMKLTTCrabCake.jpg

and the wife had the salad with roasted garlic buttermilk dressing. I had the Colony Salad for my entrée while the wife had the Tri-Corner.
FoodMKLTTSandwich2CroppedSmal.jpg

She was surprised that the coleslaw was directly on the sandwich, not placed next to it. We both remembered that the last time we were at LTT four years ago, that we were surprised about the coleslaw placement then too! I think that we will remember for next time.

We were pretty full, but of course we couldn’t pass up dessert. The strawberry shortcake called my name, while the caramel apple tart was what the wife wanted. They were both absolutely scrumptious. Of course, since it was the wife’s birthday, she also got a chocolate cupcake with a candle on it, plus a group of waiters to sing Happy Birthday to her!
FoodMKLTTBirthdaySong.jpg

After lunch, we did some more pin shopping at the Trading Post, well, the Wife did some pin shopping while I sat outside and listened to people screaming down Splash Mountain. Since we were there, we stopped in to the Country Bear Jamboree! This show has been discontinued at Disney Land, so it was great to see it at the World. We sang along to the songs and I think that we were the only ones to do so! Singing along is half the fun of the Country Bear Jamboree, especially the Blood on the Saddle song. Anyway, we enjoyed ourselves and I have a feeling that other people in the audience enjoyed us too.

The wife’s tummy was becoming a major problem for both of us, so after multiple bathroom stops, we headed over to first aid and got some medication for her. Here’s a tip, First Aid, located right next to the Crystal Palace will give out individual packets of common medications, like Motrin and Imodium. So, we got a few packets of medication and crossed our fingers. Thankfully, one dose seemed to do the trick.

We then rode Space Mountain, which seemed faster to me than I remember. I tried to figure out where the TTC is inside Space Mountain, but I couldn’t find it. I’d love to ride the TTC sometime when Space Mountain isn’t operating, since they turn on the lights inside. It would be neat to see whole ride.

We rode the train around and then rode Jungle Cruise a couple of times. Jungle Cruise is our favorite ride, mostly because of the CM’s. We know the entire spiel by heart, but we still laugh at all of the jokes. Jungle Cruise was even better when the CM’s were allowed to go off script, but it’s still good.

We had 7pm ADR’s at the Crystal Palace for dinner, but the wife didn’t want to take a chance with her tummy issues. So, I had a Dole Whip instead. I now understand all the fervor over Dole Whips. OMG, it was so tasty. I got the pineapple/vanilla swirl and it tasted like a pineapple cream cycle.

After the delicious Dole Whip, we sang along with the Tiki Birds. I like the new management, but there is something to be said for the nostalgia of the original Tiki Birds.

Part of the Premium Plan includes Preferred Viewing Areas for Wishes and Illuminations. The PVA for Wishes is at the Plaza Landing. We got there around 8:30 and scouted out perfect seats. The only problem was a tree blocking part of the castle, but that was really no big deal. While we were waiting for the fireworks, I sat and stared at a popcorn stand and considered getting popcorn for a good thirty minutes. The crowd by the castle was so big that the thought of fighting my way through to get the popcorn, was less enticing than the thought of tasty popcorn munching during fireworks. The Plaza Landing area was delightfully uncrowded and just lovely for watching fireworks. Wishes, of course, was wonderful. The wife even got some very good pictures of the fireworks and the beautiful colors on the castle.

After Wishes, we settled back in our quiet area and watched the crowd fight for the entrance. After awhile, we left through Tomorrowland and I think we rode Space Mountain again. We got our EMH wrist bands at the Columbia boat landing (no line for wrist bands) and then ride BTMR. Riding BTMR at night is so different than during the day. Woo! It’s much more exciting.

We were pretty tired by this point as it had been a very long day. So after one last ride on the Jungle Cruise, we picked up our packages at the front of the park and caught the bus back to CSR. The bus was waiting for us when we got there, so it was a quick and easy trip back to the resort.

yay you're back. happy b-day wife, what a great day spent in the happiest place on earth!

Enjoying your trip report and the pics. Hope all is well at home - glad you're back to posting. :sunny:

Me too.... now get back to it!!!! :rotfl:

You trip sounds great. Can't wait to read the next installment...

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Never fear, I'm working on the next installment and hope to have it up by tomorrow. :thumbsup2

One thing I forgot to mention in the last installment is that the wife discovered a Pin Pursuit was occuring during the time that we were there. For those lucky people who don't know what a Pin Pursuit is, it's like a Pin treasure hunt. For this Pursuit, we had to go to one store at MK, AK, MGM, Boardwalk and finish up at DTD. At each store in the parks and at the Boardwalk, we had to get a stamp on a piece of cardboard. Once we had all five stamps, we could go to DTD and get a free pin. The theme of the Pin Pursuit was transportation, so each pin represented a different form of Disney Transportation.

I've mentioned before that the wife has a serious pin addiction. As you'll soon find out, this addiction was to take a much more serious turn with the Pin Pursuit. . . .

Cool! Where can I find more info?

Day Six, Thursday 3-30-06

Me: Female, 36 only 2nd time at WDW.

Wife: Female, 46, used to live in Florida and visited WDW all the time.

Premium Package: includes 3 TS or CS meals per day, unlimited recreation and selected tours.

I’m the obsessive Disney planner in the family, the wife is much more of the spontaneous type. Knowing this, I made all of our plans with the idea that I was willing (kinda) to be flexible as needed. So, Thursday was supposed to be the day where we slept late and hung around CSR, enjoying the lovely pool and adult beverages. I was looking forward to having a down day and enjoying relaxing on a Disney vacation! What a concept!

However, my plans were completely disrupted by those stupid Disney Pins. Once the wife learned about the Transportation Pin Pursuit , she wanted to complete it. We had gotten the MK stamp the night before, so that left the Grand Floridian, AK, Epcot, MGM, the Boardwalk and finally Downtown Disney. In addition, there were two limited edition pins being released today that she wanted to get.

So, instead of sleeping until 10:00 or so, we were on an MK bus by 8:00am for morning EMH. I was half awake, the wife was bouncing around like Tigger on ephredra. I don’t function well without caffeine and food in the morning, so while the wife ran to the Trading Post in Adventure Land, I stood in a 40 minute line at the Main Street Bakery to get 2 Egg Sandwiches on a croissant, two apple juices and one large coffee. This was the longest line I stood in the whole time we were at Disney. The egg sandwiches were very greasy, cold and just gross. I had talked myself out of getting one of the mongo cinnamon rolls or the really yummy looking chocolate croissants, due to the fat and calorie content. I also thought a little protein would be better for me than a major sugar rush. Well, the calories were probably about the same and they certainly would have tasted better! At least the coffee was good.

I met the wife at the Trading Post and she had gotten the limited addition pins that she wanted, so we left MK (without riding any rides!) and took the ferry over to GF. I’d never been inside the GF and well..Wow. What a lovely place. I felt quite underdressed in the lobby, especially since there was a Princess tea going on with about 30 little Princesses sipping tea with Cinderella. They were quite cute. We found the store on the second floor of the GF (after riding up in the birdcage elevator) and got the stamp on the cardboard card.

Then we were off again! This time to catch the bus to AK. We waited for about 20 minutes at the GF’s bus stop, much longer than we ever had to wait at CSR!

Once we got to AK, we noticed that the stores to get stamps at the parks, are actually located outside the parks! That makes it easier to get the stamps and certainly makes it easy for people who don’t have park hoppers or any park admission.

Since we were at AK, we had to ride EE. This was our second time on EE and it was awesome! It felt faster than the first time we rode it a few days ago, so we managed to escape the Yeti. Lucky us.

I had wanted to see the Lion King show the last time we were at Disney four years ago, but we never got around to it. Since we were at AK and the show was in just a few moments, we decided to see the show. It was good, not as good as I’ve heard people say though. I think that part of the problem was that we were in the next to last row on the Giraffe side and we had people standing next to us and behind us. The wife had an end seat and a 9 or 10 year old girl who was standing next to her, kept creeping into the space in front of her. The wife eventually put her foot out and blocked the girl from coming over even further into our space. I don’t know why or even how Disney can pack that theater so full. It seems like a fire hazard to have people lining the stairs.

Anyway, after semi-enjoying the Lion King show, we headed out of AK. Except, it was now 3pm and we were hungry. We didn’t have ADR’s for lunch and so spur of the moment decided to see if we could get into the Rainforest Café. Luck was on our side as there was only a 15-20 minute wait. Woohoo!

The Rainforest Café is not included on the regular dining plan, but it is included on the Premium and Platinum plans. Yeay for us! We pigged out big time. We split the Awesome Appetizer that included: chicken wontons, crab dip, chicken strips and calamari. We each got a stuffed lobster, which was absolutely huge! It was a whole lobster, split and stuffed with crab.
FoodRainforestCafeLobster.jpg

It was so good. As full as we were, we split a Bananas Foster and a Banana Cheesecake. Our bill came to $155!! We gleefully signed the bill that was $0.00 and rolled out of the restaurant to continue with the Pin Pursuit.

We caught a bus directly from AK to MGM. I didn’t know that there were busses that went from park to park, but thankfully there was!
We didn’t even go inside MGM, we just got our cards stamped and then debated taking a bus to Epcot or the ferry. It was weird being outside the park, knowng that inside was RcR and ToT and all sorts of other fun stuff. But, no rides for us at MGM today. We had plans to go to MGM in a few days, so I consoled myself with knowing that we'd get to ride those rides soon. Little did I know what was to happen in a few days.

At the moment, there was a slight problem. We had reservations for Cirque at Downtown Disney that night. We had to pick up our tickets, included in the Premium Plan, before 8pm for the 9pm show. If we didn't pick them up by 8pm, they would be released.

It getting late and I was starting to freak out about time. We had 7pm ADR’s at Wolfgang Pucks, but had talked about going to Bongo’s instead. Neither of us were all that hungry since we had our mongo lobster lunch just a few hours ago. I just wanted to make sure that we were able to pick up our tickets on time.

The wife was frustrated, but agreed that we didn’t have enough time to get to Epcot. We were going to be at Epcot on Friday anyway, so she agreed to just wait and get the card stamped then. We waited for quite a long time (maybe it wasn’t that long, just felt that way) for a DTD bus. It would have been nice to have had time to go back to CSR to shower and change, but there was no way that was happening. So, off to DTD we went.

We picked up our tickets around 7:30 and headed over to Disney Quest to pass the hour until the show. When we were at DQ a few years ago, we had an absolute blast, maybe it was because we were tired, but it wasn’t as much fun this time. We did the raft ride, which was fun, but confusing. The line for Pirates was too long, so we skipped that. We went up to the 5th floor and rode the AstroBlasters ride. Those little cars are pretty humid and stuffy! It was fun shooting at people though. We also rode the Aladdin ride, which always makes me a little nauseous.

Does anyone else find the layout of DQ to be unnecessarily confusing?

We left DQ and entered the Cirque building around 8:30 and after having a little spat due to some miscommunication because we were both tired, I got a pretzel and some water OOP. If you ask, they’ll give you large free samples of their smoothies. We decided that the mango and the raspberry both tasted the same! Kinda weird. I decided that both of them would taste a lot better with a large shot of vodka in them. But, again, maybe that was my mood.

Cirque was absolutely fantastic! Even if you are not on the Premium plan, I HIGHLY recommend spending the money to see this show. It is better than any of the traveling Cirque shows and those are really good. Do get there early because there are funny clowns who do a hilarious pre-show. We absolutely loved Cirque and it really capped off a very exhausting day.

The wife had gotten her second wind by the end of Cirque and wanted to wander around DTD and Pleasure Island for awhile. I was just too bushed. So, we slowly wandered through DTD to the bus stop. We saw lots of people heading towards Pleasure Island, many women wearing impossibly high heels and tiny skirts. How can women walk in those things?! We had been to the Adventures Club four years ago and had a blast at it, but it just wasn’t going to happen this year. Now, if we had spent the day relaxing like I had planned, then maybe we could have partied at PI. Hurmph. Ok..I’m flexible, I can let it go. Really.

So, with good memories of Cirque and taking more Disney Transportation in one day than I had thought possible, we waited and waited and waited and waited about 40 minutes for a bus back to CSR. Once we got back to the room, I pretty much fell into bed and don’t remember anything until the alarm went off way too early the next morning.

Things I learned on this trip:
1. A day off is a very good and very needed break!
2. There are Disney busses that go from one park to another.
3. Lobster on the Premium Plan, woo!
4. Exhaustion = high irritability, even at Disney
5. Listen to myself and keep to the planned day off.

Really enjoying your trip report! OMG your the guy sitting next to you on the plane reminded me of this past February flying down on Delta. I was walking my 4yr old DD to the restroom, we had to stand outside for a second to wait for someone else, and the guy in 1B (aisle) had a playboy or similar type mag spread out on his lap! I couldn't believe it, there were attendants and people waiting in line for the lav all around him!

MyTalula - Gross! Porn should just not be on airplanes. I can't believe some people! Although, I'm sure that your guy was just reading the articals.

Honeybee - We loved the Premium plan and would certainly do it again. For us it was worth it because we didn't have to count CS, Snack or TS credits. We just ate where and when we wanted. Our lunches/dinners were usually around $100 each. We also made use of the included tours and recreation. Parasailing alone for one person was $150.

Mostly though, it's not the price of things, but the freedom. If we wanted to do something, we just did it because we'd already paid for it and didn't have to worry about finding the money for it. As I said, we loved it.
