Two adults at Disney, one pregnant, which parks?

Hi there,
I believe that choosing the 'best' Disney park is totally dependent on the demographics of the people visiting, so here goes. My husband and I have a 4-day stop in Orlando as part of our April trip, we'll be staying near Disney but not on-property. It's our first trip, we are 29 and 30, no kids, but I am 5 months pregnant.

We'd like to choose 2 parks to visit during our time in Orlando, we'll probably veg the other two days. We'd like to include one water park if this would be likely to be enjoyable for a couple of '8-year old' adults. What park(s) do you recommend, given that being pregnant cuts out hair-raising rides for me, and H will likely not want to do everything by himself? And since it's also relevant, I am not slowed down at all yet, still have lots of energy and hardly any bump, so want to enjoy whatever I can.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Anna

Well it depends what you like to do... EPCOT has a few slow moving rides and a 3D show, and a lot of shopping in the world showcase. MK has plenty of rides, esp in Fantasyladn that you can enjoy. I think to get the true "Disney" feeling, you have to spend time in MK! MGM has a lot of great shows also... I'm not a big fan of AK, so I could cross that off, but to choose among the other 3 is hard!

First of all CONGRATULATIONS on expecting!

Secondly I'd say the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Epcot has many slow moving rides and the world showcase which is tons of fun! The Magic Kingdom has a lot of slower rides as well. Those two parks will have great shows at night too. MGM is great, but the best rides there are the fastest ones, I'd save that park for another trip (which pains me to say b/c thats my favorite!)

I'm not sure about which of the waterparks. Typhoon Lagoon might be a little much b/c of their wave pool. Does anyone know if the waves are on constantly? I know the suction up closer to where you enter the wave pool can be harsh b/c I've been knocked on my behind several times there when I was only ankle deep! lol So I can't imagine the risk of that happening to be too good for someone pregnant. There are the lazy rivers though at both water parks and those are great! I remember liking the lazy river at typhoon lagoon a bit better, mostly b/c at Blizzard Beach my husband kept shoving me under the icy waterfalls (and I mean ICY) on that lazy river.

Animal Kingom is only open form 9-5 and there is not much to do there, perhaps you can squeeze that one in for a few hours as well. But I wouldn't do that unless you got utterly bored at the first two parks. Have a blast!

Hi again, thanks for both my replies. Yes, I have a hankering to see Magic Kingdom. I can't remember from other themeparks I've visited elsewhere whether it's obvious at the entrance to different rides whether they are safe for pregnant women, or whether it relies on your own judgement - do you know?

most rides have a sign at the beggining telling you if it's not safe to ride while pregnant

another vote for MK and Epcot

Hi there, Anna! Im also pregnant and will be visiting WDW with Hubs for a short trip during my 5th month. Based on my prior experiences, I agree w/ PP and suggest one MK day and one Epcot day. As my hubs says "You cant go to WDW and not go to MK". Besides, if your hormones are like mine and producing intense moments of baby-nostalgia before the little one even arrives, what better place to say "OMG...I can't wait to see the baby do ___ !" 5000 times in an hour. Of course if the park is packed and the stroller brigade is out in force and running over your swollen feet, maybe a MK visit will act as future birth control. Either way you win, right? :earboy2:

As for Epcot: Hey, just think of ALL of those snacking opportunities. Not many high octane rides to have to sit out. Lots of shops to visit w/ plenty of A/C.

I've been to TL and LOVED it. However.....I have heard that Water Slides are a no-no for us. Now that's heard from non-MD/medical professional sources so of course YMMV. I think the lazy river thingie at TL is awesome, particularly if you are a 'soak in the theming' kinda gal like me. However, if you are super active/adventureous and are just camping out and watching your SO having lots of fun while you sit there and gestate maybe not so awesome. As an alternative I'd suggest sleeping in (how many times will you be able to do that in the future?), having a nice resort breakfast (Yummmmm....Bomba buffet....*drools*), then hitting DTD for shopping and general free non-park Disneyness, then hitting your resort quiet pool for a nap, then getting dressed up and doing an early dinner at a fabulous restaurant like Jiko, CG, The Yachtsman or even V & A if you have the means. This is our plan of attack on our non-park day.

Anyway, congrats on your trip (oh and that baby, too!) and have fun!

Another vote for MK and Epcot. I can't imagine going to Orlando and not going to those 2 parks. Lots to do besides thrill rides!!!

Have a great trip and more importantly have a happy and healthy pregnancy/baby :)
