Twirling Through the World: Magic, Memories, & Maladies-Sept. 2011 TR- NEW PTR 6/18!

Oh, I'm so relieved you found the tickets. . .I was holding my breath that they were going to be sold out! SO glad that was not the case.

More fantastic pictures. You give me hope of being able to work a real camera if you were just holding above your head and shooting:cool1: Nice work!

We do not have any alergies, but it is really nice to hear how accomidating everyone seems to be (save Pecos Bills). Sure hope that is not where the trip takes a turn for the worst!

Thanks for the update today. . .it was a great surprise after plowing a foot of unexpected snow! Gotta love Colorado weather! I must say, I still love snow days. . .DD (6) is home today and we are both enjoying it! :cheer2:

That was a roller coaster of an update! At first I wanted to cry for you with the lost tickets, and then I just kinda wanted to shake your MiL for "misplacing" them in the trash. (If I shake your MiL, will you shake mine?). QUOTE]

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hoookay, so yesterday was a crazy day, and I only had time to reply to people in my TR and then do my update. UGH do not like those kinds of days! But that's okay, because I have some time this morning aaaand your TR is my first stop!

Um, what the heck was up with those EE CMs?! I would've been so annoyed. It's like they made you feel ashamed and embarrassed or something. So lame. I would've been really upset, too, because it's just not something you expect in Disney World, ya know? I kind of felt that way when I went to ask an HM CM a question and she just said I NEED TO SHUT THE DOORS and then I was like, oh okay, sorry, and then she ignored me. Granted that's probably just part of the show but I don't know, it made me feel stupid!

JALAPENO CREAM CHEESE PRETZEL! It's like it sings to me when I see that photo of you with it. :cloud9:

I still have never been on KRR! Since we go in January it's not something we tend to want to go on since you CAN get pretty soaking wet. It looks fun though!!

Hahaha I laughed so hard at Brynn and Julia yelling out animal facts. I would have thought that was the cutest thing EVER. :cutie:

I DID NOT know that about the flamingo island! That's so cool! YAY FOR HIDDEN MICKEYS!

I love how Brandon snuck in the extra ice cream/fruits bars. Hahahaha that is the best thing ever. For some reason all I can picture is him sitting outside with a sleeping Sawyer like... mowing down the Mickey ice cream before you guys got done. :rotfl:

Your photo of the FotLK where the giraffe is hanging out with the dude with his arms in the air is REALLY awesome. Props to you!

Ummm but don't worry about it because we've NEVER seen FotLK and have no interest! I'm sorry but we don't. Maybe when we have kids? But I don't know, it's just nothing we want to see! I love The Lion King but not big on shows. :confused3

HAHAHA What is Julia doing in the booth at Restaurantasaurus in that first photo?! I am dying over here! :lmao:

I would've panicked about the tickets! OH NO! I hope everything gets worked out and you guys can just get new tickets!!

I'm too much of a wuss to go on Dinosaur! I will admit it, I just am. BUT CLAIR HUXTABLE WILL SAVE THE DAY!! Your experience confirmed why I won't go on it. I think I'd end up with massive bruises and would walk off of it annoyed. Sooo yep, don't feel bad about skipping that one!

Love the photo of you and Brandon together. :)

I can't WAIT to hear about MNSSHP for you guys!! I love this TR. :goodvibes ALSO can we just make a promise that if we are ever in Disney at the same time that we meet? Because I'm rather positive we would have fun!
I went back to look at that photo of Julia...I think she was doing an impression of the dude that was literally sleeping in the other half of the airstream:lmao:! He was just laid out in the booth, snoring for the ENTIRE meal!
Don't feel pressure to see FOTLK, even if you have kids. Mine weren't impressed. Of course, they really don't know the movie, so that's my fault. Bad parent:sad2:! And as for Dinosaur? Just say no.
If we're ever in WDW together, it would be a sin not to meet up! We would have a blast.

That was a roller coaster of an update! At first I wanted to cry for you with the lost tickets, and then I just kinda wanted to shake your MiL for "misplacing" them in the trash. (If I shake your MiL, will you shake mine?). Thank goodness the tickets were found!

We've never done FotLK or Dinosaur! We really just aren't that into AK in general (ducking before the Disers start throwing things at me) This trip, we plan to hit up FoLK as DD is really into musicals right now. I know that you didn't care for Dinosaur, but do you think it's too scary for DD? We skipped it and ITTBaB last trip b/c I thought they might scare her.

Hooray for dairy-free pizza and a great chef :thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear about the party!
You can shake my MIL and I'll shake yours, but I can't promise it'll stop me from shaking my MIL myself, as well:rotfl2:.
Even though we earned a new appreciation for the theming of AK, it will remain our least favorite park, and it'll never get beyond half-day status, I'm afraid. There, I said it.
I would say that Dinosaur would not only be too scary for her, but also too jerky. The dinosaurs themselves aren't *that* scary, but their volume is very intimidating. My neck was hurting after getting off the ride from the jerking, and I couldn't imagine my little kids being thrown around like that! We've also never done ITTBaB because of the scariness factor...and not just for them;).

ooh let me in on the mil shaking, lol! so glad she found the tickets.
YAY! TURNS FOR EVERYONE! I'm sure we could each take a turn per incident for this trip and then still get to go more than once.

Oh, I'm so relieved you found the tickets. . .I was holding my breath that they were going to be sold out! SO glad that was not the case.

More fantastic pictures. You give me hope of being able to work a real camera if you were just holding above your head and shooting:cool1: Nice work!

I was relieved, as well! Mostly I was relieved I didn't have to hold a grudge against my MIL for life.
I had Brandon mess with the settings before I went into FOTLK. He told me to try to focus it, and the camera would do the rest! So even though I took the pictures, he gets credit for getting the settings right (and he didn't even see how dark/light it was when he set it--just guessed:thumbsup2).
I can't believe you got a snow day--here it is 75 degrees today:scared1:! We are really having some crazy weather this year.

Thank goodness the tickets were found!!!! I was on the edge of my seat for a moment there!!

Looking forward to hearing about the party!

We had to park far away, of course. So many other party-goers were pouring in, and the park was still open at this point. We hopped on the monorail from the TTC to MK.

Here’s one of the few pictures from that evening. It’s Mamie as “Nana” and me as “Tiger Lily.”

disney-2011-day-4690.jpg

The MK had a few extra touches for the party.

disney-2011-day-4-684.jpg

We were so happy to have found these babies!

disney-2011-day-4-698.jpg

We grabbed our treat bags, which featured the upcoming DVD “Spooky Buddies.” After this night, I tried my best to avoid that movie like the plague, but my kids ended up getting it and are now obsessed with those dogs!

disney-2011-day-4700.jpg

We made our way in and sort of stopped.

disney-2011-day-4-703.jpg

We really had no game plan, other than meeting Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Since it was nearly party time, we jumped in the princess line. Sawyer had fallen asleep, so Mamie went to look at the decorations while we waited in line. He was our little Peter Pan, but he spent pretty much the whole night asleep. Here’s a picture of my kids on the actual Halloween so you can see them all together:

halloween-024.jpg

Julia was Wendy, Brynn was Tinker Bell, and Brandon was Smee.

We met with Cinderella and Prince Charming.

disney-2011-day-4-710.jpg

Here’s a blurry shot of us, just so you can see Brandon’s Smee shirt. He also had a hat I made him, but took it off because it was too hot and was planning on wearing it later in the evening (though that was not to be). The girls told Cinderella and Prince Charming that their baby brother was Peter Pan. They said, "A baby Peter Pan? He really was serious about never growing up!":lmao:

disney-2011-day-4714.jpg

Next up was Snow White and her Prince.

disney-2011-day-4-723.jpg

And then we saw Flynn and Repunzel.

disney-2011-day-4-753.jpg

Julia asked what was in the satchel and was shown. It was amazing!
But I can’t tell you. He swore us to secrecy. I do have a photo of it, though. You'll have to ask him yourself.

We were done with Princesses and Princes and made our way outside.

Mamie and Sawyer were nowhere to be found for a while. I was nervous, but I was shaking way more than usual and started getting a headache. When they finally showed up, I decided that I needed a sugar boost, so we headed to a dance party with Woody and Jessie, where I knew they’d have some candy!

I’ve gotta say, it was a little surreal to be walking around and see things like this:

disney-2011-day-4-777.jpg

The girls were having a blast! They danced and danced until it was nearly time for the first parade.

disney-2011-day-4-856.jpg

While they were having fun, I was starting to feel a little strange. I was kind of getting an out-of-body feeling. I didn’t know what was going on—Was it my headache? Was my blood sugar low? It was the weirdest feeling I'd ever had.

We went to find a spot for the first Boo to You Parade and found one right next to the dance party at the front. I sat down for a second to see if I could get my head to stop spinning, and when I did, people actually moved our strollers WITH OUR KIDS IN THEM to get in front of them. I was pissed, and I was starting to feel like I might need a Coke to settle my stomach. I stumbled over to a snack cart and was stopped by a CM saying it was about to be roped off for the Headless Horseman. I explained that I wasn’t feeling right and needed a drink, and he let me through. I saw the HH come riding through from here.

I know I saw the parade, but I don’t remember most of it. I have no idea how to explain the feeling except to say that it was like I was floating and not in my body. Things looked funny and sounded funny. The parade was over, and Brandon had not taken any pictures because he’d had to pick up kids so they could see since those rude people had pushed them out of the way. For the record, if I had been feeling well, I would not have stood for that…but since I couldn’t stand…

We were able to make it was far as the “bathroom hallway” as I call it before I had to sit down. I wasn’t getting any better, and I thought I should go to First Aid and have them check my blood sugar. I felt so bad that I was afraid something was very, very wrong with me. Everyone else went into the baby care center and watched TV and played with toys.

WARNING: IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE DESCRIPTIONS OF MEDICAL THINGS AND SICKNESS, SKIP THIS PART!

At First Aid, they had to call the EMT from “downstairs” to take my blood sugar, which was a tiny bit low but fine. Not a cause for feeling this odd. My pulse was very fast and I was pale. I was getting more and more dizzy as the minutes passed. They suggested I could be dehydrated, but my urine was clear (sorry, but it helped them rule that out so I thought I’d mention it) and I had been drinking the suggested amount of water. In the end, they asked if I’d like to go to the hospital, which I didn’t. We sort of agreed it could be exhaustion and they gave me a wheelchair to get out of the park because all I wanted to do was go to sleep.

They got Brandon from the Baby Care Center, and we all started heading out of the park, with me crying because I was ruining my kids’ night.

We made our way through the crowds (WAY more crowded than I had hoped at this party).

disney-2011-day-4-763.jpg

I insisted Brandon stop on the bridge to Tomorrowland to let them Trick-or-Treat one time. I could at least give them that.

While they were getting their candy, I told Brandon I suddenly knew I was going to be sick.

And I was. Violently, and all over the bridge. Within seconds, CMs had it cleaned up and were telling me it was absolutely find and not to worry. They were asking if I needed anything at all, which I didn’t. I just needed out of there, and FAST. I was embarrassed and was already afraid of the negative associations I would have with that bridge (and with the flatbread I had earlier).

We took the ferry back to the TTC, and while aboard were able to watch HalloWishes. I think we actually got a better view than we would have gotten if we’d stayed in the park because we could see all the perimeter ones! I was not feeling as dizzy, but my whole body still felt slammed. We made our way back to Pop and I was able to walk inside.

And as we got to the elevator, Sawyer puked.

Inside, we got us bathed and into bed and I took some Phenergan that we had packed (I had thought of everything, right:rolleyes:). Sawyer would end up getting sick one more time that night, and I didn’t get sick any more at all. However, this was a sickness that affected us like no other we’ve ever had. It went all the way down to the nervous system, as well as the digestive one, and the effects would be felt for days. It was the most intense illness ever. We weren’t sure if it was food poisoning (Sawyer shared food with me at pretty much every meal) or some foreign virus, but it was gone was quickly as it had come, excepting the lingering yucky feeling.

I knew tomorrow would not be going as planned, but I was so drained that I didn’t care. Still shaking, we went to bed.

Oh man, lost tickets would have been better than that nasty illness! I am so very sorry. . .so hard to be sick at home, almost impossible to deal with it on the road. You must be the best planner/packer. . .ever! Way to go bringing the Phenergan! I can only imagine everything you had in those totes:)

Side note: Your costumes were adorable! Love how the whole family had a role! We have not done MNSSHP. . .my dd (6) is scared of all of the "bad" characters:confused3 For years she wouldn't ride Peter Pan because of the Croc on the entrance sign. . .boy did she feel silly after I forced her to ride it last year (great mom, huh?):rotfl2:

I absolutely love the photo with Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. . .Julia is SO darling holding her dress out. . .her poses are outstanding!

I so hope the illness stops with you and Sawyer! We shall see. . .

Oh my gosh! How awful. I see now why you said that the day got much worse. I'll bet that the girls didn't know that they were missing anything though and still had a great time. Moms are too hard on themselves. I'm glad that you weren't sick anymore, but I bet the aftershocks put a damper on the rest of the vacation. If you still count it as the best ever, then it must not have been too bad. :goodvibes

I'm surprised that karma didn't exact it's revenge on your MiL by making her the sick one though...:rotfl:

So here I am, SO excited you guys are going to the party and are going to have a blast... Then I find myself exclaiming out loud as I read along, "OH NOOOO!" I am SO sorry that happened to you. That has to be the worst feeling in the world, being sick in Disney World! :sad1: Like seriously I am just feeling so sad right now, and I'm hoping things turn around quite soon because ugh, what a bummer. I feel like I hear about people getting stomach bugs/viruses in Disney World a LOT. I wonder if something was going around while you guys were there. Either way, that's a MAJOR bummer and I'm sorry that happened to you.. and poor Sawyer!

I hope everything is better the next day!

Oh no, I'm sorry you got so sick!!!! I'm glad to hear that it passed soon enough, but how scary to feel like that! Poor Sawyer for getting it too!

However, all of your costumes were adorable!!

First, those costumes are so freakin cute!!! Love the picture of all three together!

Ooooh, I'm sorry you felt so awful and that Sawyer was also sick. At least the girls met Rapunzel, had lots of fun dancing, and saw the parade, so it's not like they missed out on a lot of the party.

I'm glad you found the tickets, after all this stressing out.

Oh, how awful! I'm glad you got to see a lot before you were sick, though. The costumes were awesome!

Are the princes always with the princesses now, or what this just for MNSSHP? (We haven't gone in to meet the princesses for a couple of years, I think). How fun to meet them all!

Love the pics in this update with the girls and the princesses and the dance party ones.....adorable!

How awful that you were so ill! It's bad enough to feel rotten, but to have it happen in the middle of the party....you poor thing!

For the next few days, I kept saying, "I wish we never found the darn tickets!!" And to this day, I doubt I will ever attend another MNSSHP. Such bad associations now:sad2:.
Oh, my totes...they are amazing. But even the prepared can be underprepared;).

sounds awful. I am sorry you went through that.
Thanks...what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right? There was a point that night that I literally thought I might be dying. Such a strange feeling.

Oh my gosh! How awful. I see now why you said that the day got much worse. I'll bet that the girls didn't know that they were missing anything though and still had a great time. Funny thing, that karma :rolleyes1.
Brandon kept assuring me the girls had fun, too. I know they did now by looking at the pictures and hearing them tell me about the things they saw during the parade, but at the time I would have sworn we accomplished nothing!

So here I am, SO excited you guys are going to the party and are going to have a blast... Then I find myself exclaiming out loud as I read along, "OH NOOOO!" I am SO sorry that happened to you. Oh, something was DEFINITELY going around while we were there. More on that later...

Oh no, I'm sorry you got so sick!!!! I'm glad to hear that it passed soon enough, but how scary to feel like that! Poor Sawyer for getting it too!

However, all of your costumes were adorable!!
Thanks for the costumes compliment!
What's so great about Sawyer is that he's so happy and so resilient. He popped up the next morning like nothing had happened! I was so relieved.

That’s horrible that you party night didn’t go as planned.
This is definitely the trip that taught me to change my plans and go with the flow.

First, those costumes are so freakin cute!!! Love the picture of all three together!

I think they ended up having a lot of fun, despite all the nastiness. We did a good job of keeping them involved in the action and away from me. They had been waiting for this night for so long that I wanted to be sure they enjoyed it. Luckily, they weren't on the bridge with me during the...ahem..."incident," because they were trick-or-treating, so they really just knew I felt bad, but not to what extent.

Oh, how awful! I'm glad you got to see a lot before you were sick, though. The costumes were awesome!

Are the princes always with the princesses now, or what this just for MNSSHP? (We haven't gone in to meet the princesses for a couple of years, I think). How fun to meet them all!
I think this is just a party thing. I know they do it for MNSSHP, and I believe they do for the Christmas party, too.

Love the pics in this update with the girls and the princesses and the dance party ones.....adorable!

How awful that you were so ill! It's bad enough to feel rotten, but to have it happen in the middle of the party....you poor thing!
I'm just glad it affected me during the party and not the girls! They really loved dancing and seeing the parade:lovestruc.

Sorry for leaving you hanging for so long. I must admit that after typing up the report of my sickness, I actually got sick. It’s like my body remembered what it felt like that night and anytime I got near my computer, I felt queasy.

And also, I’m the cookie mom for Julia’s Daisy troop, and it consumed my life for a while. Not signing up for that one again! Yeesh!

I won’t go back and read the last post, but I am ready to move on with the TR. And that brings us to the day after the very bad night, which was Wednesday. I apologize for the boring nature of the first update for this day, but it obviously needed to be a boring day at first. Here we go.
**********************************************************

Sawyer sprang up out of his sleep like nothing had happened. He was good to go. I, on the other hand, was not so springy. In fact, I still felt a little “off.” My memories from this morning are a little foggy, but I know that I had some Powerade and crackers. I had zero appetite. The others must have grabbed food around the room because I don’t remember them leaving to get anything. Obviously this morning was not going to go as planned, and even after all my obsessive planning, I really didn’t care.

What I DID care about was erasing the room of all evidence of sickness. My head was still swimming a little, and what do you do when your head is swimming? Why, make the rest of your body swim, too, of course! We were headed to the pool.

As Brandon and Mamie got the kids dressed in their suits in the other room and sunscreened (wipes for Brynn, who cannot stand to be sprayed or lathered with lotion…very sensitive kid), I gathered up every piece of clothing (even clean ones), including blankets and the pack-n-play sheet provided by the hotel, and I prepared to do something I’ve never before done at Disney: LAUNDRY. With clothes in a laundry bag in the hall, I scrubbed down every available surface and threw my swim suit on.

We put the clothes into the washer next to the bowling pin pool since it would be closer to our room when they were finished, but I’m not sure I really thought it through. We then pushed on to the kiddy pool next to the hippy dippy pool:hippie:, knowing our beloved Goofy’s Pop Jets were closed for good now:sad2:.

When we arrived, we noticed this:
disney2011-day-5055.jpg

Guess the sickness HAD taken its toll on him…that, or it was his usual nap time and we had ignored it to come swimming…

I absolutely did not mind volunteering to lie on a chair next to him. It had been my plan to sit very still in the first place. At this point, I noticed that my sunglasses had been left in the van last night, so I had to borrow Brandon’s, which I hate.

The girls played in the shallow water. (See me on a chair in the left of the picture? Imagine that happening for an hour or so.)

disney-2011-day-5028Panorama.jpg

disney2011-day-5048.jpg

I guess Brandon took some shots of the resort and pool while we all chilled.

disney-2011-day-5073_TM_.jpg

disney-2011-day-5097Panorama.jpg

When he came back, I made the VERY LONG walk back to the laundry room to switch the laundry over to the dryer, then made the VERY LONG walk back to my family. Normally, this walk was nothing. Today, every step took a huge amount of effort. I still felt like I had been hit by a truck, but I knew I wouldn’t get sick again. Still felt a little nausea, but mostly just in small, controllable waves. That lasted well past when we got home, with each day getting a little better.

The girls and Brandon were in the hippy dippy pool when I got back, and Mamie was sitting with Sawyer. I decided I’d try the pool with them.

disney-2011-day-5-41.jpg

The girls jumped off the steps and splashed around. I kind of stood there. A good time was had by all.

disney-2011-day-5-11.jpg

disney-2011-day-5-5.jpg

There was a little girl that my kids befriended whose mom looked just like Brandon’s cousin. I commented on this, and it turns out they have the same name, as well! Just an odd little tidbit for ya, one of the few things that I recall from this splash-fest.

I heard Sawyer wake up, and I took him over for a minute of splashing.

disney-2011-day-5-18.jpg

Soon, we were all tired and ready to head back to the room.

disney-2011-day-5-8.jpg

Brandon and I grabbed the laundry out of the dryer while Mamie took the kids up to the room to start their baths. We dropped off the laundry in our room, grabbed our mugs, and headed out to the food court to grab lunch. The plan was to bring back food for lunch and then head out to a park if Sawyer and I were continuing to improve.

I have no food pictures from this lunch. I seem to remember there being some nuggets for Julia and Sawyer, and Brynn said she wanted pasta noodles and broccoli (which the great chefs made for her). I think Brandon built his own burrito and I tried a bite of it. I have no clue what Mamie got, but I grabbed a chocolate muffin to nibble. That’s all I could handle.

As if I weren’t feeling shaky enough (WARNING, MORE GROSS IN THIS PARAGRAPH!), a child in a stroller in the middle of the food court was repeatedly puking all over himself…AND HIS PARENTS DID NOTHING! His mom looked at him, rolled her eyes, stuck a paper napkin in his shirt neck (like that was going to help anything!) and they CONTINUED TO WAIT FOR THEIR FOOD, ignoring him!!! First of all, what kind of parent do you have to be to absolutely do nothing to help your child who is being sick over and over again, not even a kind word? And secondly, why would you not take a sick child back to the room, both for his sake and for the sake of other diners’ appetites!?! I was too weak, but I considered punching that mom in the face. I’ve never punched anyone before in my life, but that would have been a worthy reason, I think.

Back in the room, we picked at our food, packed up, and decided we’d try to salvage the day by going to the Magic Kingdom.

Up next: What kind of idiot does Space Mountain the day after being sick?? This kind of idiot!

It's definitely understandable after the evening you had to still be feeling off the next morning!! I'm glad to hear that you weren't just stuck in bed though! And that Sawyer seemed to be feeling pretty good!

Ugh. That poor kid getting sick in the food court. I'm sure they were just feeling miserable! :sad2: Definitely sounds like something was going around while you were there though!

Space Mountain??? I don't attempt that when I'm feeling wonderful, you're MUCH braver than I am!

YAY! I'm glad your back! So sorry to hear after the "aftershocks" and hope you are 100% again.

I had to laugh at the Cookie Mom comment. . .I have one Kindergartener, so I made the mistake of agreeing to be the room mom! Never again!

I can't believe that the nausea stayed with you for so long! How awful. I hate doing laundry at home, so I never would have done it at Disney, you get huge kudos for that ;)

I'm glad that you braved the pool, and I think that Sawyer had the right idea.

WOW. I can't believe that someone would do that to their kid. Poor child must have been miserable. I really don't think that it takes 2 people to get food even if the parents decided that they NEEDED to eat right then. I don't blame you for having feelings of rage....

I have to say that it was the quickest sickness ever! It was over fast, though the effects hung around for a long time. Sawyer never seemed to be bothered, though!
I felt so bad for that kid. He was just hanging his poor little head and obviously miserable.
I had to try Space Mountain! It was my first time and my only chance:eek:!

YAY! I'm glad your back! So sorry to hear after the "aftershocks" and hope you are 100% again.

I had to laugh at the Cookie Mom comment. . .I have one Kindergartener, so I made the mistake of agreeing to be the room mom! Never again!
Thanks! I think I mostly have everything blocked from my memory, but typing it all out again just brought it all back. Yuck!
Yeah, I always seem to jump into things to make sure they're done "the right way," and then get frustrated when people don't do their part:headache:. I need to let go of some control! As a side note, I did sign up to be room mom, but wasn't chosen...Julia's school has tons of stay-at-home moms with lots more money than this stay-at-home mom, so I didn't make the cut:sad2:. Can't say I was too sad about it, though!

I swore I would never do laundry at Disney, and I really hope I never have to again! I just really wanted all the germs to go away and to freshen up the room.
I'm glad we braved the pool, too. Turns out it was the only time we went swimming the whole trip, besides the water park later on!
He was a pitiful kid. He just looked like he felt awful, and they were laughing and chatting in line, not paying attention to him or to all the patrons who were watching:sick:. I am not an angry person, but I was seething! I had a questionable parenting moment later on in the trip, but it wasn't THIS bad!
