Twin Beds in staterooms?

We are a party of 3 booked on a Cat 12 room for the Wonder. I am reading that some rooms have a pull down bunk and some do not. I am traveling with my two kids, who are now teens, and neither is too keen on sleeping doubled up with each other or with mom. Do some rooms have twin beds in addition to the sofa sleeper, if we don't have the pull-down bunk, so we would each have our own space? Do you have to request a pull-down bunk or twin beds, or just hope that is what we are assigned to?

Thanks!

Each room on the Magic & Wonder has a queen size bed that is really two twins put together! You can have them separate or apart - just make the request.

But..........on the Dream, this will not be an option. They do not come apart! :sad2:

So, has anyone heard what they will have? I usually travel with my adult DD and my DGD. We like the beds separated and give the couch to my DGD. Do you think they might have twins in some rooms?

Thanks for the info! Do I need to request this ahead of time with my TA, or with the attendants after we have boarded?

There are NO rooms w/ twins, according to the DCL onboard future cruise consultant. I was really disappointed.

I asked her what 2 friends traveling together are going to do & the response was "one can have the convertible sofa."

Best to request ahead of time but it's okay if you wait. Your room steward will put the beds however you like them. :goodvibes

...unless you're on the Dream!! What were they thinking??

Thanks for the info but that's a bummer! I guess My DD and DGD will get the bed and I get the couch! Hope it's comfy!

The Dream will have no ability to convert to twin beds. All beds in staterooms will be non-separable queen beds. Those not wanting to share a bed would need to make a decision as to who gets the bed and who gets the pull-out couch (unless it's a suite which has more than one bed)

That seems really ridiculous about the Dream! They must know that people like the option of having twin beds.

Wow, did not hear about this until now. That is crazy. For example, I have traveled in years past with my two DD's and no combination of us would want to share a bed with the other, lol. Wonder if there will be lots of parties of 3 trying to get a stateroom with beds for 4 (upper bunk too) in that case?

Well, Disney doesn't do something without extensive research so I suspect that:
1) Very few people actually ask for the beds to be split on the Magic and Wonder.
2) A LOT more people complained about the ridge in the middle of the split beds when they were made into a queen.

Disney does a lot of things differently than the rest of the cruise industry. Shows before late dinner instead of after, no system for disembarkation, no nightly midnight buffet, only one formal night on 7 day cruises, and now on the Dream, no convertible beds.
Some of these differences drive long time cruisers like me nuts, others work just fine, but generally speaking, the Disney differences hit the nail on the head for Disney cruise passengers, who are not the standard cruise passenger.

My understanding is that while the beds on the Dream don't separate, they are higher and better for storing luggage - which is common request. :cool2:

I agree, I wonder if most of the rooms will have the 3 upper bunk or if they will have cots available.

Hmmmm, maybe I'll "store" DS under there since there's no twin! :lmao:

I'm sure your right about the research but I'll bet they are going to get alot of complaints about the this during the first month of sailing the Dream. I think alot of people will assume these can be split and will be angry. It is easy for DCL to say 'one can sleep on the convertable coach' but none of them have dealt with two teenagers who refuse to share a bed but don't want the coach either!

You are right about the complaints - there will be MANY. I would guess it is all about saving $ without separate mattresses and bedding as well as additional work for the stateroom attendants. However it will come as a surprise to many people. So mom and daughter get the bed and son gets the sofa. Hmmm.

Can't comment on how comfy the sofa bed is because my brother got the pleasure of sleeping on it while I got the unseparated "queen" bed on the Magic on our first (and so far only) cruise. On our next cruise, I requested twins (again on the Magic).

Now, I'm wondering if I should just tell them not to do that so my brother can have the sofa bed again. LOL No, it's not that I like torturing him (although...no, no...) it's because when the queen is separated into two twins, those two twins are awfully close together. But if one sleeps on the sofa, and the other sleeps on the "queen", there's more separation and there's a privacy curtain that you can draw to separate the two sleeping areas.

I liked that arrangement because I always woke up very early and he didn't. This tiny bit of privacy allowed me to do so without waking him up.

I'll have to ask him how comfy that sofa was.

Has something to do with the perception of "equality in accommodations" as when I travel with a friend, on the Magic we can each have a twin bed and the same accommodations. But splitting a room on the Dream, there will be two persons paying the same amount for the trip, but one gets a complete queen bed and the other will get a pull-out couch.

Although I am sure Disney understands that most of its patrons are couples or families. Besides, they're going to end up getting extra from me, because I might decide that I would only do a Dream cruise as a single (paying single supplement). So there may be other ways in which it works out in Disney's favor. High marks from the couples for no bed ridge, high marks for the luggage storage area, and complaints only from the few who will have to either put up with a sofa bed while their friend gets a large comfortable bed, or who will pay the single supplement.

You can always request that sheets be changed and take turns with the beds so no one gets a raw deal. I suspect we will need to do that in our family because there will be a battle over who gets that top bunk! :)
