SUMMIT BEGINS SEARCH FOR NEW MOON DIRECTOR

Los Angeles, CA, December 7, 2008 – Summit Entertainment and director Catherine Hardwicke jointly announced today that the filmmaker will not be directing the next installment in the newly minted TWILIGHT film franchise. Summit’s targeted end of 2009 or early 2010 release of the film, NEW MOON, does not work with Ms. Hardwicke’s required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen. Thus as has been done before with many successful film franchises, the studio will employ a new director for NEW MOON.

"I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct NEW MOON,” said Hardwicke. “Directing TWILIGHT has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel-- it is a great story."

“Catherine did an incredible job in helping us to launch the TWILIGHT franchise and we thank her for all of her efforts and we very much hope to work with her on future Summit projects,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production. “We as a studio have a mandate to bring the next installment in the franchise to the big screen in a timely fashion so that fans can get more of Edward, Bella and all of the characters that Stephenie Meyer has created. We are able to pursue an aggressive time frame as we have the luxury of only adapting the novels into screenplays as opposed to having to create a storyline from scratch.”

WHOO FREAKING WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

:yay: :cheer2:  :dance3:
hahaha I screamed so loud I scared my dd:rotfl2: I am sooooo happy about this you guys have no idea...please dont misunderstand me, I have watched 2 very successful other films of Catherines but all of them have been low budget independent films and it is not right for the type of movie I think most of us looked for in Twilight...I totally think this is going to make NM AMAZING...thank you so much CP for that post:hug:

I'm kind of glad. She did a decent job wit Twilight, but it seems all of her movies have been low budget teen movies devoid of special effects. I just don't think she has the experience to really make the most of the movies. I think we saw the evidence of this in the Twilight movie. While it is a good movie, it seems the consensus is they could have done a lot better. I hope whomever they get next will have experience in this kind of movie and bring it to the next level.

I must say I'm not very happy about it, mainly because they could screw up big time if they get a new yet not right person. At least Catherine was very passionate about the books and understood them, she was also begin Summit for a bigger budget, which they still think is not necessary...

this makes me REALLY sad and exceptionally worried about the direction that New Moon will take. I thought her style worked really good for Twilight and worry that based on what I heard they will try to go too big with New Moon to try and expand the audience and in doing so, ruin it...So I'm gonna be reluctant about New Moon now, despite initially being really excited by Catherine's initial ideas...so I say a BIG BOO to this...

I agree. I don't think anyone will be calm until we actually have a name attached.

come on guys...you cant be happy with Catherine really??? I really think it will be much better now...Look at Harry Potter they had 3 directors and each one was better besides Stephanie is not going to let them screw up her books like that...JK Rowling was right alongside each director and I think Stephanie will too...watch mark my word it will be much better and you will be alot happier with the results:hug:

In regards to the HP films, new directors didn't make them progresively better. OotP was a mess.

Your pic is WAYYYYYYYYY better!!!:lmao:

When I read CP's post about another director, I though of HP. I would really like the director of third HP movie (Alfonso Cuarón) would be great. This was my favorite HP movie. He also redid a Shirly Temple movie called the Little Princess (which I was prepared to hate since I love the original move, but it was wonderful).

Not sure what else he has done, but I really like his style although both movies are completely different.

Anyone else have someone in mind for the new director role?

I like some of Alfonso Cuaron's movies, but I just didn't like what he did with POA and I don't think he would be the right director for New Moon.

yes I can be happy with her...I LOVE the style of her directing..not just on Twilight, but on all her films...I think she has the right attitude, enthusiasm, and interest for the series...I really hope they don't screw it all up by trying to go big and failing miserably...besides, her ideas she was tossing around for NM were great.
I don't have anything against different directors for movies in a series, but it just seems like Summit just really doesn't get it and are just looking to mess it all up.I really hope I'm wrong about that, but the statements they keep making are leading me to believe I'm right.

I think Catherine was great... but there was so much left out, so much that could have been better, and hopefully SOMEONE out there in Hollywood sees what the Twilight series means to the fans and pick it up. I love all the Harry Potter movies, just watching Goblet of Fire reminds me of how GOOD they could make the Twilight series!! I know Summit has it, but I am hoping they find a director that wants to make this INCREDIBLE!! :thumbsup2

:rotfl2:
He'll by climbing through my window in about half an hour. DBF has no idea. :rotfl:

Speaking of DBF, have I said that he absolutely hates Edward Cullen and Twilight? Yes, he's jealous of fictional characters.:rotfl:

Edward must be pooped tonight...... he was with me alllllllllllllllllll morning!:rotfl:

I have had my fix of Edward today, we spent the day in the meadow. And yes, he sparkles everywhere.:rotfl2: And he'll be back when dh is asleep.

I agree with both of you. If you read the quote carefully what you will hear between the lines is that Catherine asked for a BUDGET and some TIME to make the movie better and the studio said, NO.

They have been quoted as saying that just because Twilight made alot of money does not mean a bigger budget for the second movie. They said that the second movie will get along just fine with a shoestring budget just like the first one did.

I believe they still think the Twilight was a fluke and that the second movie will NOT make nearly as much money no matter how good it is so:

1) they made a ton of money off of Twilight which they will put in the bank. DONE, CHECK.

2) they will use the same small budget to make New Moon and probably make a decent/mediocre profit from it

3) if they spent a ton of money making New Moon and made that same decent/medicore profit, they would then not have made as much money off of the series as a whole. I think they don't believe in the 3-quill being a huge money maker. Each subsequent movie will have small budgets to make sure that the initial millions made on Twilight will not leave their pockets.

4) Worse case scenerio for them: New Moon is made with shoe string budget and STILL makes a HUGE profit. Hey, it's a no lose situation for them.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot... Now, with all that being said, I hope beyond hope that the new director will be better. I thought Catherine allowed some REALLY BAD ACTING in parts and some really terrible special effects. HOWEVER, she was true to the story, took it seriously, and tried her best.

I'm not sure if you guys knew this but supposedly there was a HORRIBLE script floating around out there with Vampires doing RIDICULOUS things and Catherine Hardwicke found it and shook her head and said, "Hey.. I read this book.. it was a good book. This is NOT right! I can make this movie the way it is in the book and it will be good. It doesn't need to stray to be good." or something to that affect SO.. it's my understanding that Cahterine Hardwicke is the Hero here. Maybe she wasn't perfect but I give her credit for doing what was right by the movie and the fans.

DL has 2 parks and everything is really compact...you can walk between parks and DTD and take the monorail or walk to the hotels, most people stay off site at DL vs at wdw, our DL is better than wdw MK but we dont have epcot, or AK...DHS is very similar to an area in DCA (Disney California Adventure) and it only takes me about 5 hours to drive it vs. flying 5 hours to the other side of the US:rolleyes:

I will be sticking to WDW. Mainly because of my tremendous fear of flying. Unfortunately, you can't go from the East Coast to the West Coast in 2 hours or under, and that is my limit.
