I don't have any of him sparkling. He went to school that morning to a first period gym class, so he applied his glitter lotion after gym class. Basically, he wore his regular clothes with a sticker that said, "Hello, My Name is Edward Cullen" with the glitter lotion. The girls thought it was great. The boys thought it was lame.
2. The Cullen House and Edward's bedroom....beautiful! So much better than I pictured in my head.
The house was smaller than I thought it would be. Also Edward's room was smaller than I thought it would be. How will they fit the 4-poster bed in there later in the series?
I loved Bella's house. It was SO much what I pictured. I lived on the coast of ORegon for awhile and they really captured that feeling. Very accurate.
I pictured Charlie's house to be more remote. I guess I pictured it like some of the houses in the Poconos. Yeah, a far cry from the Pacific NW, but I pictured a long driveway in front with woods on both sides of the drive and house.

I am an intruder here, having never read the books, but my DD9 wants to read them, and I'm just not sure they are okay for her age yet.

She is a high level reader, and we have trouble finding things that interest her enough but are not too mature. She's read all the Harry Potters and loved them. So some violence a little scary is okay. But I don't want her to read it yet if it's TOO scary or too risqué for her age.

Can someone tell me if they'd be appropriate? Trust me, I'm no book banner. But I see no reason to push kids beyond their innocence before they are ready. She can read it in a couple of years if it's too much.

Thanks!

P.S. I could just read them first, but if I bring it in the house and then say no she'll be more bummed.
I have read all four books and would have no problem with my 8 year old daughter reading them. DD8 saw the movie last night and enjoyed it, although it was a bit boring for her during the slower parts (which I expected). I don't find it scary or risque or I wouldn't have taken her to see it. The books are on her reading level (ability wise) at school but I'm going to read Twilight with her over Winter Break. That way, we can discuss anything that might be too far over her head.

:guilty: I'm a big fan of the books. I saw the movie today and honestly was disappointed. I thought a lot of the acting and dialogue between characters came across as very hokey. In our showing people were laughing at parts I just don't think they intended to be humorous. It was just disappointing. I didn't hate it but I do like the Bella and Edward I envision in my head much better.

Heads up ladies...South Park is going to rip the Twilight phenomenon BIGTIME in the new episode this week. I may be more excited about that than the actual movie!

As for New Moon...mixed feelings there. not sure how they can make 2 hours of Bella mooning/sulking over Edward's absence interesting. I think Eclipse will be the better, more exciting film.

I have seen the movie twice already, and really wish that I didn't have to go to the Ravens vs Eagles game tomorrow so I could see it again! It really is better the second time around. I also really liked a lot of the hidden 'mickeys', for instance when Bella Googles the legend Little Brown comes up as a book store. Also, I love how they use Apple computers since they have a bite out of them. Just my two cents.

As far as New Moon is concerned, I wouldn't be suprised if more focus is put on saving Edward from the Vultori than Bella and her feelings. Of course they will have to build the Bella/Jacob relationship, but it already appears fromt he movie that Jacob is farther along in understanding his legends vs facts, than he was in the books.

Oh yeah, I've seen part of it. It's making rounds around the internet.

I really hope for New Moon they do something similar to the way the did Brad Pitts character Tristan in Legends of the Fall when he was gone for so long.

I've always thought it would be awesome to know what Edward was doing during that time, so maybe they will have scenes cut to him being in different parts of the world..doing different things..all crazy and heart sick. :faint:

isnt it funny how our individual imagination work??? I guess because of the fact that my grandparents were from a small town (smaller than forks) and for the fact that Charlie is the chief, in my mind he had to live in town and when I saw the house I actually thought the movie gave it a bigger, better appearance than I expected it to be...

to each their own I guess but my dd was very smart when she was 8 and was reading at 8th grade level but for me, I think the topic is a little to adult for an 8yo..I just think they need to stay kids for as long as they can...but again let me preface, that is just my opinion...

Im not into southpark but I will definitely watch it...and how much do you want to bet that they will put some parts of eclipse in new moon...they are probably going to get a much better budget to work with than with Twilight which means they will have to earn more before they can make the 3rd one...

Yeah, Im betting they will show what he is up too. It will be cool to see her fixing the bikes with Jacob, her jumping off the cliff, and then Italy and the Volturi! And then we also get to meet little psychotic JANE.......:scared1:

To get everyone in New Moon spirits...

Can someone help me? My dd asked me what Victoria's talent was and I can't remember. TIA

BTW, just got back from seeing the movie with DMom. She loved it! It was very surprising, she doesn't really enjoy this time of film, so that was nice. She wants to read the books now. :goodvibes
DSister wants to see it too, so I'll probably going again sometime next week.

Same thing happened with my mom. She was interested in the movie, but had no interest whatsoever in the books. We went Thursday night (our theatre had a 10pm showing), and on the way home she admitted she might be interested in reading the books. She tried to get me to spill what happens in the last book, but I was like, "uh uh, no way, you either have to wait three[ish] years for the movies to be finished, or you can read the books."
Needless to say, she came over and borrowed Twilight yesterday, and wants to pick up New Moon tomorrow. :lmao:

In regards to the movie, well, to put it simply, I loved it. I didn't have any expectations for the special effects, since I knew going into it the budget was small. So I enjoyed what I saw. The only thing I did have a problem with was the under-usage of the Cullens, I just wanted more!!!

Planning to go see it again with my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law verrry soon. I just can't wait!

Whats Little Brown? Someone said it came up as a bookstore when Bella was googling the vampire deal?

And no one has said anything about Edward in the sun. How is that???

( without giving too much away)

Blah...nevermind about SOuth PArk. The episode wasn't so much about Twilight as it was about poking fun at kids who run around pretending to be vampires (and how upset the "Goth" kids got that their stle was usurped). In fact, the vampire "transformation" involved taking the potential new vampire into Hot Topic for a new wardrobe.

Snicker...

Little Brown and Company is the publisher of Twilight.

4 of us went last night--theatre was packed--movie was incredible!
I thought it was amazing how the entire theatre was just "buzzing" then the movie starts it went dead quiet...the Cullen family enters the cafeteria at school and it was just a collective *gasp*--it was so cool having everyone on the "same page" as how I was feeling!

DD 11 loved it, as did DN 17 and my DS-inlaw----we even had a friend who brought her husband and he was making "chick flick" comments waiting in line but at the end he was raving about it !:thumbsup2 The one point where Edward jumps on the side of her vehicle he jumped so high he accidentally kicked the back of DD's seat!:lmao:

Have to agree with the poster who remarked about Edward making a face when Bella steps into Biology class and stands in front of the fan--very exaggerated.

I had Jacob pictured differently in my head...more of a "chiselled" look with strong features(jawline and cheekbones), in the movie he has such a cute baby face!

DS-inlaw and myself both were disappointed with the Cullen house, not at all what we had imagined--too art deco on the exterior.

Loved how they ended it--makes you really hope its not long for the next movie, just like it was when reading the books!

Will see it again and definately will buy it when it comes out!
