Did anyone watch Robert on Ellen today? I missed it earlier because of work, but I just watched it online and he is SO adorable and funny and charming and handsome    I practically swooned! The Soup also just had a little clip about Twilight and it was hilarious.

Just saw both! Rob was really cute and his parents and sisters were there dancing! Oh and The Soup thing was hilarious!

Ok, just got back from first viewing with DD13. I liked it, it was good. I was disappointed in some parts. I thought that overall they did a pretty good job of transferring the feel of the book to the movie, but I was a little mystified as to why they changed the progression of some things, when I don't think it would have taken more time to do it accurately to the book.

Do I still have to say "spoiler alert"? now that it's actually running? Well, ok, I said it, just in case.

The meadow scene ended up being a few moments with a music background, instead of the PIVOTAL scene it was. Seriously, if you read the author interviews, you know that the meadow scene was the first one she envisioned and wrote, and the one that inspired her to write the entire book. Stuff was said there, he held her there for the first time-- and she him-- I thought that part was really crucial, especially to show how he started gaining control. And, their first kiss happened when he took her back to her truck, NOT in her bedroom with her wearing only a t-shirt and panties! (She wore sweatpants! Stephanie Meyer wouldn't have written it that way at all. The most you ever get is Edward with his shirt off, before the wedding!).

Also, if you've read the Midnight Sun draft, the fact that Jacob actually said the word "vampires" on the beach in La Push, and Bella did the internet research based on that, makes quite a bit of difference to how Edward percieves her reactions to him when he rescues her in Port Angeles. So it didn't make sense to me to have her NOT know, already in Port Angeles. He was all amazed that she DID know, and still wanted to hang out with him.

As a PP said, I also was rather surprised to not hear those three little words at all during the film. Maybe they have to hold out to keep up interest in the next one?

Did anybody else feel that the scene where Bella tells Charlie she's leaving, was pretty much underplayed? In the book, she was literally yelling and crying and slamming doors. In the movie she's just kind of acting sad.

But overall, it was quite good. I really liked the look and feel of the movie; the lighting and mood. As PPs have said, loved Charlie (as a native Northwesterner, I love that he's drinking Rainier beer!). Others might not agree, but I loved Jacob and thought he seems perfect for the part, although we didn't see much of him, just like in the book. He really seems to personify the happy, funny, nice guy. I think he'll be really good in the second movie.

Wish we could have seen more of the Cullens-- the kitchen scene with meeting the family was an addition that was priceless! So funny. I started out thinking Carlisle was too young-looking and-acting, but he got better later in the movie and seemed more patriarchal. Jasper looked weird to me. I want to see more of Alice. I liked the scene where she envisioned the ballet studio. Seemed very authentic.

Did anybody notice Stephanie Meyers' cameo?

I did NOT like the ending, just because it made me annoyed to see Victoria lurking around at prom. Makes NO sense, because Edward would have smelled her immediately, and Alice would have "seen" her. It seemed to me like a gratuitous and unneccessary setup for the second movie.

Geez, it sounds like I hated it, but I really did like it. It's not what I expected, but I think they got the look, feel and the main casting just right. I want to go see it again and catch more stuff I missed.

We had a very decent crowd, not a scream among them, just some laughing at those unfortunate scenes that they kind of messed up on-- yeah, Edward's face when he first catches the scent is a bit too much.

Ok, I'll shut up now. Enjoy! I know I will again! :thumbsup2

Just a heads up, all the boys from the cast will be on the Tyra show next Friday the 28th. The preview I saw has Robert biting Tyra  I'm jealous! :rotfl:

I went to the midnight premiere and I gotta say...I was kind of disappointed.

Like everyone else, I cracked UP at Edward's face in Biology. I also laughed during the scene where Edward drives past Billy as he is leaving Bella's house. The looks they gave each other were just so funny. And when he sparkled in the sunlight? Totally did not do it for me. I mean I know there is only so much they can do to convey the look everyone had been picturing but I mean...seriously. To me, he just looked kind of sweaty. :confused3 Did anyone else think that? I just kind of skimmed through the past couple of pages of the thread and I don't think anyone really mentioned it much.

Don't get me wrong though, I really did enjoy most of it, I just found myself laughing at parts that I'm pretty sure were meant to be taken seriously.

Also, am I the only one here who likes Jacob? I LOOOVE him! As do all of my friends. I mean sure, he is kind of immature and young but I think he's more realistic. I also really like Jasper! And the whole Cullen family really.

No, you aren't alone. The movie made me like Jacob even more. I've always been more of a Switzerland though. And yes, he did end up looking more sweaty to me, than sparkly. Like he had just gotten back from a nice jog.

You're right though, it was enjoyable despite all the bad.

Phew! What a relief to finally have seen it!!!! I really enjoyed it! We had four kids with us, three boys 9-11 and DD8 and they got a little bored during the slower parts. They were distracting! :lmao: Then, wouldn't it just figure, some woman barfed on her way down the stairs heading out of the theatre, pretty close to the part where Edward and Bella kissed. Needless to say, that put the kids into a frenzy, laughing and carrying on. :rotfl:   DH and I would really like to see it again (ALONE...AND SOON!) so we can enjoy it without all the drama. :lmao:

I got a kick out of Stephenie's cameo. Pretty cool!!

Well.. I'm probably going to be kicked out of our little club here -- but I pretty much hated the movie. I am so disappointed, I could cry.

Catherine Hardwicke deserves to be drawn and quartered. The choices she made were so bad. My friend and I, both enormous Twilight addicts, were stunned into silence for a while over how much we disliked most of the movie.

We agreed that the movie got much, much better beginning from the scene at school when Edward's wearing his Ray Bans and casually slings his arm over Bella's shoulders. We loved the baseball scene, and the prom scene was  lovely!!!

I really disliked how choppy the movie felt, and Edward's super dramatic soliloquies -- though I couldn't tell if that was bad acting, or if Rob was directed to do things a certain way. His face in the first biology class scene was so ridiculous, I felt embarrassed to be watching. Bella is supposed to smell like the most mouth-watering, succulent thing in the world to Edward... his expression looked like he was smelling a dead body in a garbage dump!

I'm super tired and can't gather all of my thoughts at the moment, but I will be back to expand later.

Oh.. I will say, I could watch Robert Pattinson peel a pile of potatoes for two hours.. the boy is GORGEOUS.

You know..your reaction was almost to a tee the same as DD's last night. She actually came home in tears because she was just so torn about the whole thing.

Then we saw it again today, and she totally changed her mind. She was in tears again, but this time with relief!! She was so happy that she actually got something different from it the second go round.

As far as Edward's facial expression in that first Biology class, I agree that it did seem like he was smelling something bad, but I think that's how they intended to play it. I'd even go as far as to say that I think it was meant to be somewhat humorous.
I admit, when Bella picked up a strand of her hair to see if it smelled bad I cracked up myself. It wasn't exactly the way I thought it would have played out initially, but I also didn't mind it either.

I don't think Edward would've had a look of longing on his face. In the book she is horrified because he looks at her with such a vile hate and disgust. I thought Rob portrayed that perfectly.

I am looking forward to seeing it again because I feel like I will enjoy it more. Hopefully. My biggest hope is they make enough money to make a second with twice the budget. I know some people like indie films but for something that I have read over and over again I want it done right and justify making it into a movie.

And I agree with a previous poster that jasper was so creepy. I don't know if it was him trying to physically protray his power or if they wanted him to looks like some kind of clown.

I saw it last night as well. I was relatively pleased. I would have liked to have seen more Bella and Edward. Like someone previously said, I would have liked to see them say 'I love you' in Bella's bedroom.

Jasper is wrong. He should be good looking and he is not.

I would have like to have seen more Bella and Alice as well.

Both Carlisle and Charlie were HOT!

There were a few scenes that could have been better with a bigger budget. I am hoping that is rectified with New Moon as low budget and werewolves do not mix.

I just finished reading Twilight last week, and New Moon this week and am currently reading Eclipse. We are going to see the movie this afternoon.

So I attended the "prom" at the View Point Inn which is where the Prom scene in the movie was filmed. They did a FANTASTIC job of recreating the scene in the movie, including actual props! Here I am in front of the famous sign!
Edward, Edward, where for art thou, Edward?

It was SUCH a unique experience to attend the prom then go see the movie and see the place we had just been minutes before :cloud9:

I liked the movie. My favorite scenes that stick outto me at this time (4:00AM!) are:

1. Charlie Cleaning the gun while meeting Edward "officially"! That was awesome.

2. Jacob's dad and Edward driving by each other and giving each other the stink eye (I saw that somebody else loved that scene, too!)

3. Poor Edward pretending to be asleep in the hospital room. That just cracked me up!

Yep, it had it's ups and downs. Some of the characters.. or more so the actors... didn't seem to fit in the movie as well as others. The movie itself was filmed in a unique way. Sort of true to life like Blair Witch Project but fantasy-ish like you would expect from a big budget. I dunno.. it's so hard to judge as a person who read the book. I don't think I'd ever be fair considering I know the "whole" story vs what was in the movie. Overall, BIG Thumbs up.

I could go on about the problems I had with it (and I did, all the way home with my friends! :rotfl2: ) but essentially, what the heck. It was a fun ride. Anything to spend a little more time with the Cullens.

EDIT: P.S. Any die-hard fans who would like to see more pics from the "prom" party can feel free to PM me. I might also post more in my regular TR for those of my Dis friends who aren't on this thread. :)

I agree with so many of the latest reviews. It was fun though and I am glad I saw it and for once, I have to say, I liked the book so much better.LOL

Okay, I dont know what Stephanie looks like but when was here cameo?

TravelMel--I am dying with jealousy. You look great and that looked so cool.

I saw it last night and I was surprised I didn't hate Bella. Honestly, in the book, she infuriated me. I think it was because I am a mother of a girl almost the same age as her and because I hated Bella's choices, I didn't always like the character. I think Kristen Stewart did a good job as Bella and I wasn't expecting to like her in the role at all.

As for Robert, Oh My! I have always felt a little dirty lusting for a 17 yo boy, even though he is 117 and after seeing him as Edward, I feel really dirty! He should be a big star after this. He has all of the qualities and talents of being a MAJOR heart throb! He was absolutely perfect as Edward.

The only thing I didn't like about the movies was its production. I really wish they had had a bigger budget because there was a low budget quality to the film, a quality it didn't deserve. Hopefully the second one will have more money behind it and better editing.

Finally, I almost wish I didn't know how this story pans out. I can remember seeing the first HP and wondering how it would all play out after seven books. Having read the entire Twilight series, I know how it ends, and as such, found myself visualizing future scenes especially with Rosalie from Breaking Dawn. And also, Jasper at Bella's Birthday party.

Regardless, I enjoyed the movie. I don't have any desire to see it again but my 18 yo said she couldn't wait to see it again. I think it is going to make a ton of money.

Her cameo was when Charlie and Bella were at the diner; the waitress gave Stephenie a coffee. She used Stephenie's name, too.

I seriously enjoyed it so much more the second time around. Maybe that was because I was in so much better company and I felt more in place. I picked up a lot of things I didn't pick up the first time.

BTW, DM wants to see the movie, so I'll probably be going again today. Maybe I can pick up on some more things.
And the montage after Edward sucking the venom out is still my favorite part... :cloud9:

SATURDAY EARLY AM: First numbers show that Summit Entertainment's low cost blockbuster Twilight opened huge as expected because of heavy pre-sales with $32.7M Friday from 3,419 theaters, including $7M worth of Thursday midnight shows, for what should be $65M for its first North American weekend in release. (One rival studio bigwig thinks it made as much as a "jaw dropping" $35M, telling me: "Even figuring a big drop tomorrow, it has to be a mid-$70sM weekend.") Fangirls -- or should I say fang-girls -- were buying 5 Twilight tickets per second as of early Friday morning, making Twilight online ticket-seller Fandango's fastest-selling film since The Dark Knight last July. Then the tween and teen females in store bought or homemade Twilight clothes (and even Twilight tattoos) flocked to the first Big Screen version of Stephenie Meyer's bestselling series of Romeo & Juliet-style vampire romance books.

Yet the movie adaptation was made by start-up studio Summit for only $37M. This will be the start of a big new franchise since a sequel is already in the works. The first box office record has already been broken by Twilight's girl power: this is the biggest opening for a female director. Catherine Hardwicke is easily beating Mimi Leder's $41.1M for 1998's Deep Impact. (But with an asterisk since these figures aren't adjusted for inflation, ticket prices, etc.) If Friday's figure holds, then Twilight will have the 2nd best opening day for a November release behind Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, and the 16th highest opening day gross ever, beating the first Harry Potter and just behind the 3rd Lord Of The Rings.

No. 2 was the new Bond pic Quantum Of Solace which was down 69% from its franchise record opening a week ago to earn $8.3M Friday from 3,458 venues. This could be another $28M weekend and new North American cume past $110M (in just 7 days time). Going into today, Daniel Craig's 2nd turn as 007 has made $335M worldwide.

Because Twilight played much younger than expected, "it's taking that extra bite right out of Bolt," according to one studio mogul. As a result, Disney's toon starring the voices of John Travolta and Miley Cyrus looked to debut Friday with only $6.5M from 3,651 runs and should yield just under $25 million for the weekend. That's $10M less than expected. So, on the Disney scale of animation pic successes, this is disappointing. Poor Bolt has been overshadowed by the phenomenon of the Twilight Zone. This family fare had the largest digital 3D release ever, opening at approximately 979 Digital 3D locations. Last Saturday, the studio sneaked the pic at around 880 theaters to build word of mouth.

DreamWorks Animation's toon sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa distributed by Paramount came in No. 4 with $3.5M Friday from 4,007 dates for what should be a $15M weekend a fresh $136.4M cume. And Universal's raunchy R-rated comedy Role Models continues to surprise by outperforming: at #5, it took in $1.5M Friday from 2,733 plays for a possible $4.5M weekend a new cume of $45.3M.

It's worth mentioning that Oscar-touted Slumdog Millionaire expands into 32 venues. The Fox Searchlight pic opened last Wednesday on 10 screens and this Wednesday grossed +54% on the same 10 screens. As one studio insider told me, "That never happens. As a point of reference, even Juno last year didn’t do this." The pic's previous weekend was the best of 2008 for a specialized film with the highest per screen average of the year, beating Academy Award buzzed Changeling and Rachel At The Wedding.

The movie is doing incredibly well! It basically got back all it's budget in one day!

I did the same thing my sister did when she got out of the movie. She called me at 11:45 p.m. Thursday night and I called her at 6:00 p.m. Friday night.

My kids and I loved the movie! However, didn't Edward have a white grand piano and not a black one? I asked another woman in the theater and she and her companion agreed that it was white like the rest of the Cullen house. You guys are the experts and my book is loaned out right now.

We had a scare about getting to the theater. When my kids got home, my car wouldn't start. Stupid battery. Luckily, my next door neighbor came home at the right time and we got to the theater in time. Our theater was about half full at 3:50. There was quite a line when we left, though.

I wanted to see Edward in full sun and not with shadows blocking the sparkle. We wondered if for next Halloween if someone won't market Cullen sparkle cream since Edward's sparkle vs. my DS's use of his sister's sparkle lotion this Halloween didn't compare. :)

I can't wait to see what they're going to do with Jacob's character in New Moon. Obviously, Taylor Lautner was a one time role as Jacob, unless he grows to 6'5" by the next production.

The funniest thing was once my 13 yo DS got to the theater with DD (12) and I, he didn't want to sit with us when he saw all the teenage girls in the theater. I told him he had to sit by us, so he sat on the other side of his sister instead of sitting next to me. :rotfl: I guess I cramped his style. :thumbsup2
