Ok, Aro is really curious about Bella and Edward's relationship, and his power is reading minds, ONLY if there is contact with that person.
So Aro asks if he can read Bella's mind, Bella says yes.
Aro holds Bella's hand or something, and Aro couldn't read her mind.

And then Aro's all like "hmm...curious!" and asks Jane to use her power on Bella...Edward is all like NO!!!!!!!

But she does it anyway, and it doesn't affect Bella. Jane's power creats extreme pain in the mind.

In conclusion, they figured that Bella's mind, for some unknown reason, is blocked against all mental attacks or whatever. It's kind of force-field-ish.

I know that.
