Twelve Months of Training and Travel

Sometimes it serves me well and other times, well I am not so sure!

I think it is better than nothing and has definitely worked well enough for both of us1

Maybe. It is possible based on my 15K times but heat, bio breaks all of that will be a huge variable. I think it is far more probable to be in the 2:05-2:10 range at a 9:33-9:55 pace. We will see.

Well, no matter what the pace it will be absolutely fun!

They are odd. Had a better run than Wednesday today (no bleeding!) but my schedule is way off for sure. I did get paranoid half way though so decided to walk the last mile. I felt them and really couldn't tell if it was calluses starting to reform or skin about to tear. Sigh. And I had to take a bio break mid run again, grr. Hopefully I can do a long run on Wednesday as otherwise my week is a train wreck between kid end of year events, work and houseguests.

No bleeding is good! Skin tearing is definitely bad!

True. Once the sun is up though, it will absorb the heat more than lighter. I hadn't thought about it but they are right.

This has me a bit bummed. I had thought I had my outfit all planned out. Now I am thinking I have to get something lighter. I could get the same rawthread shirt in red or grey...and that would work. But if I am going to get a new shirt I kinda want it to be "new". So then I kinda liked the castle to castle shirt. THAT makes me then think I want a new skirt. :faint: Maybe I get the shirt and make due with one of the skirts I already have. Thing is the pink ones I have can sometimes ride up and I get chaffed. I can't imagine they would be a great choice for 13.1 miles. They are light though..so definitely would be cooler to wear in the CA heat.

Do you do any trail running here? I think the snohomish run is on a trail, or part of it. Need to look at the course map.

Nooo... I might hurt myself. :rotfl: a little trail is ok... I can make it work.

I'm going crazy. I SWEAR I responded to this! :confused3 Anyway, yes, they have more arch support. When I first tried them and compared to PureFlows (over a year ago), I preferred the PF's. Now, I prefer the Cadence and the arch support! Go figure. They are still low drop, cushiony and nice fitting like the FP's...although I prefer the Cadence 1's to the 3's...maybe I'll love 4's...or 5's...or 26's...when they come out with those.

I do that oh too often. I read and then think I responded but didn't.

Sounds like the cadence is a good fit! And... :rotfl2: yeah.. maybe the 26's will be an even better fit.

Training -

Nothing much to report on the training. Still running and following the schedule that run disney has for "time improvement" for the DLH. I know it is intended to be the galloway walk/run method but the only thing I am taking from it is the when and how long. I am not doing the mile things nor the intervals. I am doing the speed work but rather than just a 3 minute recovery I did a full 400 meter to recover and while it really impacted my over all pace it made those 800 meter sprints not so bad. My overall weekly mileage is finally getting up there again. (about 17 for the last couple weeks and this week I should hit 19)

Want my proof I didn't die during my 6x800 speedwork this past weekend?

Health -

Allergy season is kicking our rears here. I have been taking Zyrtec though and that has helped quite a bit. So I haven't had to use my inhaler in a while.

I have decided to ban cheeseburgers from my diet for the month of June. After seeing that I had put on a few pounds since January and realizing that in the last week of May a good percentage of my meals included a cheeseburger I decided that enough was enough. I love cheeseburgers, but really everything in moderation is a wise rule to live by and I was NOT living by it. Long term I know I can't give them up entirely...but this should help a tad in getting my weight back down and in lowering my cholesterol. (oh yes, did I mention that for the first time in like 20 years mine is high?)

Work -

Super busy lately. I had my territory cut and then my hours started to get less and less. Finally things are picking back up to where I have over 30 hours a week consistently. Course, I kinda got use to less than that... and now am feeling tired from all the physical work I do. I keep telling myself it is good for training

We have a meeting come the end of the week though and it is looking like more changes are coming. I suspect this is going to make trips that were going to be easy to plan for harder and others (like the phm) easier. We will see. I just have a sinking suspicion I know what changes are going to happen.

Trips -

There isn't enough to really report to make a single update on anything.

The flights back from CA in September got changed. It cut a couple hours off the end of our trip. So Cynthia was on it and got us switched to a different airport. :cool1:

I have been trying to figure out what to book/how to book for our January trip. AKL studios are not available for the entire trip so again I am forced to probably book a split stay with a wait list.

And speaking of wait list, ours for October has yet to come through. I am really beginning to accept that we will be checking out of the 2 bedroom at OKW and checking into a studio for one night before moving to BWV for 3. I think I will cancel one of the studios we have for that one night. Maybe. I don't think Steve is a fan of sharing the studio for one night with the girls, but it seems silly to have us check in to 2 rooms for one night and spend the points. We probably won't even have the rooms for 24 hours. Plus they are not in the same area. We have one near hospitality house and the other not.

Races -

I don't think I posted here, but when the Star Wars weekend was announced, Steve was very excited. It was in interesting few days with him insisting he wanted to go and tell me to get a room booked. The night before early registration opened I had him look at the calendar and he then decided that it would mean two back to back trips that he wouldn't get a chance to really enjoy. So no Star Wars for us. Honestly I am kinda glad about it. Sad that he did not get to sign up for something he seemed to really want to do and now guilty that I may still do the phm....but glad because two race weekends back to back is a lot not only in time but in cost AND in the tole it takes on a body.

I have yet to sign up for a June race. I think between not being sure of what we were doing regarding the Star Wars and not being sure of one race that we had in mind over another it has left me not having registered for anything. I will though.

PHM registration is a month away. I really need to decide if I am or if I am not doing it. I want to. However it is an added cost. Also the points I have left for 2014 UY would not cover a full week in February.

Race Outfits -

I will do a single post for each race outfit once I get each taken care of. Right now though, I don't have a single once completely decided on.

For the DLH, I had thought that I would wear the same one I wore to the donald. Then came the realization that a black top..even a tank.. might not be a great idea. So I am kinda back to square one with that outfit.

ToT, I still need a skirt for. Steve needs his shirt but bought some accessories :rotfl2: Who knew my husband would get into wearing something on his head and rear?? :lmao:

Avengers I bought a new sparkle skirt. (which caused some drama over if it actually fit me or not. Turns out I have weird measurements and to have a "perfect fit" would require alterations... and since I don't' want to do that I will be wearing something slightly too big. Next time I will go smaller and it will probably be just a tad too small) I also bought a shirt. It is a tank though and I think it will need a long sleeve tech under it. How is weather in CA at 5am in November? Chilly I imagine.

Donald I may wear what I wore last year. Course, where is the fun in that? Funds permitting I may get another skirt to match one of the raw threads that I have.

PHM is even more unplanned because - well, I may not go. I do think I could make one of the rawthreads shirts work, but I need a bottom.

Training - Good working on keeping up with it!

Health - It takes a lot of motivation to cut out a favorite food like that! Hope cutting it out does what you want it to for your health!

Work - Sorry to hear about changes coming from work. I know that can be stressful when its going to affect the plans you have!

Hotels - I think you can deal with sharing a studio for 1 night. Maybe the wait list will come through - you never know! I'll cross my fingers for you.

Outfits - can't wait to see them! Thats funny steve has his accessories but not his actual shirt.

Other - I find it funny to consider doing a race b/c you have an outfit that will work! Then again, I have to debate if I just want to do a Disney World Half Marathon for the Coast to Coast & do I want to do PHM or W&D? W&D would have to be alone for me though as its in Shaun's no vacation time allowed time.

Sounds like your speed training is working for you. That's wonderful. I'm sure it stinks to get out there and have to do it, but if you see results than that's what really matters.

Race Outfits - sounds like you've got that covered. What is it about the skirt that you like? Just curious because I have never even thought of wearing one. I know that some of my shorts do ride up when I am running and that drives me CRAZY. But other than that what is the advantage. I'm sure its got something but since I am so not techy when it comes to running I have no idea.

I really do hope your wait list comes through. Mine never came through until mid to late summer.

Cute!! :goodvibes I like your sparkly headband. Way to make it through that speed workout!! And yay for higher mileage!

The flights back from CA in September got changed. It cut a couple hours off the end of our trip. So Cynthia was on it and got us switched to a different airport.
Yay Cynthia!!!

I'm sure it was hard for him to give up the idea of doing the Star Wars race, but it sounds like the right decision.
PHM registration is a month away. I really need to decide if I am or if I am not doing it. I want to. However it is an added cost. Also the points I have left for 2014 UY would not cover a full week in February.
:scratchin Sounds like a tough decision! If it doesn't work out this year you know PHM will always be there waiting for you. :goodvibes
I will do a single post for each race outfit once I get each taken care of. Right now though, I don't have a single once completely decided on.
Yay! That will be fun! :yay:
ToT, I still need a skirt for. Steve needs his shirt but bought some accessories :rotfl2: Who knew my husband would get into wearing something on his head and rear?? :lmao:
:rotfl2: Woohoo for Steve! Can't wait to see what you guys come up with.
Avengers I bought a new sparkle skirt. (which caused some drama over if it actually fit me or not. I have no idea about the CA weather but I hope the skirt works out. It's frustrating ordering stuff online sometimes...
Donald I may wear what I wore last year. Course, where is the fun in that? Funds permitting I may get another skirt to match one of the raw threads that I have.

Definitely don't wear a skirt that might cause chafing!!! The castle to castle is cute and would totally be appropriate for this race for you as it's your coast to cast medal, I would definitely go with a tank for sure. Either the blue or pink tank would work with a black skirt but...then you are back to the black issue.

My fabulous yellow skirt does come in white. Just sayin.

:lmao:

I do kind of have to agree that lighter might be better

Nooo... I might hurt myself. :rotfl: a little trail is ok... I can make it work.

It's more like packed gravel kind of trail, not mountain rocky trail. More like the access roads leading in. I think.

Love the sparkly headband!

Allergy season is kicking our rears here. I have been taking Zyrtec though and that has helped quite a bit. So I haven't had to use my inhaler in a while.

Hopefully it is getting better, things have calmed down here in the last couple of days.

I have decided to ban cheeseburgers from my diet for the month of June. I should do that! I've definitely had more than I should this month.

Work -

Super busy lately. I had my territory cut and then my hours started to get less and less. Finally things are picking back up to where I have over 30 hours a week consistently. Course, I kinda got use to less than that... and now am feeling tired from all the physical work I do. I keep telling myself it is good for training

Sounds like a mixed blessing

We have a meeting come the end of the week though and it is looking like more changes are coming. I suspect this is going to make trips that were going to be easy to plan for harder and others (like the phm) easier. We will see. I just have a sinking suspicion I know what changes are going to happen.

So it doesn't sound like these are good changes? Fingers crossed it goes in a way you want it to

Trips -

There isn't enough to really report to make a single update on anything.

The flights back from CA in September got changed. It cut a couple hours off the end of our trip. So Cynthia was on it and got us switched to a different airport. :cool1:

And hey, bigger plane so our flight is a whopping 15 min faster. LOL!

I have been trying to figure out what to book/how to book for our January trip. AKL studios are not available for the entire trip so again I am forced to probably book a split stay with a wait list.

Do you not have anything booked yet at all or is it just that you want to be at AKL? Were you trying to get the value AKL or just regular standard? I'm surprised standard would be gone but value is pretty impossible for more than a few nights unless you own.

And speaking of wait list, ours for October has yet to come through. I am really beginning to accept that we will be checking out of the 2 bedroom at OKW and checking into a studio for one night before moving to BWV for 3. I think I will cancel one of the studios we have for that one night. Maybe. I wouldn't give up hope yet at all. What room class is the waitlist for?

Races -

I don't think I posted here, but when the Star Wars weekend was announced, Steve was very excited. It was in interesting few days with him insisting he wanted to go and tell me to get a room booked. Maybe he can do it next year instead of the Donald?

I have yet to sign up for a June race. I think between not being sure of what we were doing regarding the Star Wars and not being sure of one race that we had in mind over another it has left me not having registered for anything. I will though.

And if you don't, the world will not end.

At least you have some left for it to be an option. I am borrowing. LOL!

You will figure it out!

ToT, I still need a skirt for. Steve needs his shirt but bought some accessories :rotfl2: Who knew my husband would get into wearing something on his head and rear?? :lmao:

Ok NOW I am curious! You can skirt shop at the expo if you want!

Avengers I bought a new sparkle skirt. (which caused some drama over if it actually fit me or not. Turns out I have weird measurements and to have a "perfect fit" would require alterations... and since I don't' want to do that I will be wearing something slightly too big. How is weather in CA at 5am in November? Chilly I imagine.

I think your lows could be as low as 48 but can get up to mid or even upper 70's. At 5am though i'd probably agree on a l/s tech.

Donald I may wear what I wore last year. Course, where is the fun in that? Funds permitting I may get another skirt to match one of the raw threads that I have.

Races are definitely an excuse for new gear, whether you need it or not!

PHM is even more unplanned because - well, I may not go. I do think I could make one of the rawthreads shirts work, but I need a bottom.

Well if you get a new skirt for ToT maybe you will find something that could be used for PHM if you end up going? Lots of time on that one, and multiple expo shopping too if you want lol.

I have no idea what I will wear for PHM.

:wave2:

I'm back and trying to get caught up with everyone's threads. It sounds like your training is going well. I know I had some of the same confusions on doing "speedwork" on the track because in my head that should mean I'm running much faster than race pace, but our plan also only caught for a slight increase over normal training pace. :confused3 I really despise track running though. I almost prefer the dreadmill to it.

Anyway, glad to get the chance to read up on your training progress. :thumbsup2

Training - Good working on keeping up with it!

Thank you. I really was starting to feel a bit discouraged.. like "why am I just not improving" However, once I started to just allow myself to enjoy the run and not worry so much I have felt more motivated. Not that feeling a lack of motivation kept me from my training. I rarely if ever skip a run day...but it has made a difference in how I approach it. No longer a "man..this might suck" but a "yeah, I get to run".

Health - It takes a lot of motivation to cut out a favorite food like that! Hope cutting it out does what you want it to for your health!

I think it will help with discipline more than anything which in turn does help with training. If it will help my cholesterol... who knows. I am not even certain I will lose any weight. I mean... when I say I was eating a lot of cheese burgers it should be noted I don't get some crazy pound burger with all sorts of weird sauces. I am not even talking a quarter pound burger. So calorie wise it probably isn't much higher than a regular sandwich. It is just the principle of it. As I mentioned... last week in may, eating a burger as a meal was a high percentage. Like... one a day for at least half the week? I think I had a day in there too that I ate more than one meal. (like a burger for lunch and then also for dinner).

Work - Sorry to hear about changes coming from work. I know that can be stressful when its going to affect the plans you have!

I am hoping it will be good changes. If it is what I think, I may end up no longer needing to work one weekend every 4 weeks. It would shift that work load onto the week. I don't think I will lose hours since I think it will take hours I don't get in one week and shift them to another.

Hotels - I think you can deal with sharing a studio for 1 night. Maybe the wait list will come through - you never know! I'll cross my fingers for you.

The fact the waitlist could come through is why I haven't get cancelled. It keeps those points allocated for that night. Course... something may be in the works that would make it so I wouldn't have to really care so much about those 10 points. :rolleyes1 Lets just say I spoke to my guide today.

Outfits - can't wait to see them! Thats funny steve has his accessories but not his actual shirt.

Well, we know the shirt... so it is easy enough to plan. He may not even get new shorts.

Well, I am not considering the race because I have a possible outfit. It is more that if I do the race, I probably have an outfit. AND since I am like 99.9% sure I will be... I will be taking the planning ;)

Sounds like your speed training is working for you. That's wonderful. I'm sure it stinks to get out there and have to do it, but if you see results than that's what really matters.

Well, I am doing it. I have yet to see results. I wonder if the way I was doing it before was better? I use to have 4 runs a week one of which was for speed. It was a 2 mile run as fast as I could. I wonder if that worked better for me than the 800 sprints will. Who knows... I guess time will tell.

For me it is a few things. In order of importance to me...
  1. it is "girly".
  2. They usually have pockets. Pockets are important to me. I am a person who carries some sort of sport bean or chew for ever run.
  3. because I am an older gal who has had 4 kids... well :rolleyes1 It hides things that may happen that I don't want to be all that visible.
  4. I am not a huge fan of my legs. Honestly, I know this is my own weirdness. I know my legs are not huge. I just feel stocky and so the skirt tends to be a bit more flattering in my own mind.
  5. Finally, comfort. Weird that I list that last, but really most things are comfortable enough for me. So it isn't like I get them because I can't find anything else more comfortable. However, they are really comfortable.

I really do hope your wait list comes through. Mine never came through until mid to late summer.

So maybe I still have a chance? I keep hoping that since it is just one night there will be less trouble getting it to come through.

Cute!! :goodvibes I like your sparkly headband.

Thank you! I have three of them. A pink, purple and blue one. They were quite the find at Walgreens! Crazy, eh? But I had looked close enough to other sparkle head bands to know that these were made the same way with the sport type grip on the underside. They were clearanced to like $1. My only concern with them is that I need to wash them (salt has a way of making things crusty. :crazy2:) When I do.. I worry that the sparkle parts will fall off. For $1 though.. even if they are shot after I wash them (and yes... I have worn them a LOT without washing them) they will have been so cheap I will have got my money out of them and then some.

way to make it through that speed workout!! And yay for higher mileage!

I am happy that both are happening now. Course... next month I am sure I will be sining a different tune when my miles are WAY high. :rotfl:

Good luck with no cheeseburgers in June! I hope it helps. :goodvibes

As I mentioned above... I am really just trying to gain some discipline when it comes to what I eat. I can't just eat what ever all the time. So while I may not lose weight by doing it... at least I will be attempting to get control of my eating habits.

I totally get like that at work too - get less to do for awhile, get used to it, and then the work picks back up and I'm just like...:faint: Hate that!

EXACTLY! I wish that they could just make it steady.

Uh-oh...that doesn't sound good. :( I hope you come out of this meeting okay!!

I have a good feeling I know what is coming down and it should work to my advantage. I hope...

Yay Cynthia!!!

She definitely rocks!

I hope your waitlists come through. That stinks that you'll have to move around a bit...hopefully the one night won't be that bad if you all have to share the studio.

I really do not want to do a 4/1/3 split. That would totally suck. I hope the waitlist comes through. I have not cancelled the one studio because I can't make up my mind if it would be better or just more of a hassle to have the 2 rooms. It means... taking the girls to their studio from the 2 bedroom. I know we can have bell services take the luggage, but since we will have a car I know me and I know I will just want to do it myself. Then we will have to move ourselves. Given that it is in two different locations... yeah... not looking forward to it. Course, two studios mean we will trip over eachother less.

I'm sure it was hard for him to give up the idea of doing the Star Wars race, but it sounds like the right decision.

It was. For a moment I think he reconsidered last night when he knew today it was opening to the public. Ultimately we are full in for the donald and that week in FL so it is fine.

:scratchin Sounds like a tough decision! If it doesn't work out this year you know PHM will always be there waiting for you. :goodvibes

Well, I am 99.9% sure I am indeed going. I am also like 95% sure that I won't be doing the GSC. I just need to work out details with a roomie.

:rotfl2: Woohoo for Steve! Can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

I had not actually taken a close look at what he got and recently it scared the snot out of me. I caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye and was like :scared1: It will be interesting. ;)

I have no idea about the CA weather but I hope the skirt works out. It's frustrating ordering stuff online sometimes...

#DisneyRunnerProblems ;)

Well, I ran in it today and I will say that I just about completely  it. However as I suspected they legs would they did ride up a bit. It was a five mile run... so it should be fine for a 13.1. One nice thing is that since they shorts are longer than my other skirts have... they are easy enough to pull back down into place.

Definitely don't wear a skirt that might cause chafing!!!

No... I think I would have to wear tights under them or get a pair of compression shorts that go down farther past the shorts in the skirt. It could work.. but cost wise I may end up just buying a better skirt. I love the pink skirts I have...they are just less than 5 mile skirts or during the winter I do wear tights/leggings under them and they work fine for long runs.

The castle to castle is cute and would totally be appropriate for this race for you as it's your coast to cast medal, I would definitely go with a tank for sure. Either the blue or pink tank would work with a black skirt but...then you are back to the black issue.

I think I am leaning toward the pink castle to castle. Seems appropriate

.
My fabulous yellow skirt does come in white. Just sayin.

:lmao:

I have seen that... and I like it. I just wonder if white is the best idea for me  I love the flirty back side to the lu lu skirts.

I do kind of have to agree that lighter might be better

As unfortunate as it is.... I agree.

It's more like packed gravel kind of trail, not mountain rocky trail. More like the access roads leading in. I think.

I am so behind on everything. I need to look at the course.

My miles are horrible between the foot and kid events but in looking at it, I do think I will be ok.

You will be fine!

Love the sparkly headband!

Thanks! That is one of my cheap ones I got from walgreens. (of all places) it has the sports grip fabric on the back side. I mentioned it above to but... I have a purple, pink and blue one. They hold my hair very well. I paid like nothing for them so if they fall apart I am not out much... but I do need to wash them... and I worry a bit they may not survive a washing.

Hopefully it is getting better, things have calmed down here in the last couple of days.

For me it got much better once I started to take zyrtec. It is Zoe and Steve that are being really hit hard.

I should do that! I've definitely had more than I should this month.

I love cheeseburgers. I could eat one (and last month I did) almost every day. It just can't be all that good for me even though I go with small burgers without a ton of condiments on them.

Sounds like a mixed blessing

It has been. Less hours means less pay... but then I have some breathing that I can do. Oh well... as my hours increase the opposite happens... I have more money. More money means I have more for vacations which is ultimately why I work. :rotfl:

So it doesn't sound like these are good changes? Fingers crossed it goes in a way you want it to

Thanks. I try to roll with changes at work. I have been with this company for just a bit over 7 years now and in that time a lot has changed. I also have learned to see what direction the winds are going with things.

And hey, bigger plane so our flight is a whopping 15 min faster. LOL!

That is awesome! Course... bigger means we also have someone else to sit with. I am sure we can play nice with them though. ;)

Do you not have anything booked yet at all or is it just that you want to be at AKL? Were you trying to get the value AKL or just regular standard? I'm surprised standard would be gone but value is pretty impossible for more than a few nights unless you own.

I have a studio at OKW but I was hoping to switch to a Savannah view room at AKL. I will be calling tomorrow before sun up. I hate to do a split but I am getting use to the idea. So it would be a 4/3 with a waitlist for the sv stuido at AKL for the first 4. My 7 month was on the 7th but I didn't call since I could see that friday night was full already. Since Saturday (half race day) is 7 months from today... as of today it filled as well. I didn't want to book a 3/4 split since I want us not to move race day. But had I wanted to... I would have had to be on it. So I am suspecting that tomorrow morning I will have to be on it in order to book at AKL in the SV for the 3 nights.

I wouldn't give up hope yet at all. What room class is the waitlist for?

Standard one bedroom.

Maybe he can do it next year instead of the Donald?

I think that is his thought.

And if you don't, the world will not end.

It might. ;)

Seriously, I know... I just like to have one each month plus the adventure run. It is my entertainment... we don't go out to the movies much. (did see Malefecent though and it was a MAZE ing!)

At least you have some left for it to be an option. I am borrowing. LOL!

A little... more if I cancel the second studio for the one night. Ultimately I will be a tad shy.

You will figure it out!

I will!

Ok NOW I am curious! You can skirt shop at the expo if you want!

It is interesting for sure.

And yes... I will take a look at their skirts then.

I think your lows could be as low as 48 but can get up to mid or even upper 70's. At 5am though i'd probably agree on a l/s tech.

Yeah... my gut is telling me it will be a cooler race. Maybe even take a sweatshirt to toss type of deal.

Races are definitely an excuse for new gear, whether you need it or not!

They are! I just have to resist the urge to only wear the stuff I buy at a race. It can be expensive and so I need to not horde things for a single use. Especially when I am in need of some more gear. (not that I am ready to get rid of old stuff but some things are nearing the end of their life)

Well if you get a new skirt for ToT maybe you will find something that could be used for PHM if you end up going? Lots of time on that one, and multiple expo shopping too if you want lol.

This is true. I could save on shipping if I just picked up a skirt for the next race at each expo.

I have no idea what I will wear for PHM.

Let the planning begin! :rotfl:

:thumbsup2

So glad you are back!

Thank you, training is going well.. well enough. The track is not much better than the dreadmill... I agree. Course at least it is outside so maybe it is a tad better.

I'm back from my trip and trying to play catch up.

Good news on getting a car to get you from airport to hotel with a grocery store stop. :yay::yay:

I continue to be impressed with your training.

Isn't that funny that I thought the skirt would emphasize the legs more. But I don't know what you are talking about. You've got great legs. All compelling reasons to try a skirt. And pockets are good.

I tried on these shorts/ skort thing today that look disastrous on me. I can't really say it was a skirt. I don't know. It was weird and it looked terrible on me. Must try again I guess.

Good news on getting a car to get you from airport to hotel with a grocery store stop. :yay::yay:

I continue to be impressed with your training.

Glad you are back! I am happy that we have something arranged to get us to and from the airport. And... the training... thank you. :goodvibes

Isn't that funny that I thought the skirt would emphasize the legs more. But I don't know what you are talking about. You've got great legs. All compelling reasons to try a skirt. And pockets are good.

I guess when I say skirt I really do mean skort. All but a couple of my skirts have the bottoms/shorts attached. (I say bottoms because one has capri bottoms rather than shorts) And... not all are created equal. I know nike has some and they are so short. I found the color that I thought would match a shirt I have perfect, but the tank would come down past the hemline... so I would look like I had no bottoms on. So that skirt/skort would not look good on me.

I am hoping it will be good changes. If it is what I think, I may end up no longer needing to work one weekend every 4 weeks. It would shift that work load onto the week. I don't think I will lose hours since I think it will take hours I don't get in one week and shift them to another.

In principle that sounds good....as long as it doesn't complicate your vacations

Well, I am not considering the race because I have a possible outfit. It is more that if I do the race, I probably have an outfit. AND since I am like 99.9% sure I will be... I will be taking the planning ;)

planning a race around an outfit you already have...well there are worse things I think!

:rotfl:

As I mentioned above... I am really just trying to gain some discipline when it comes to what I eat. I can't just eat what ever all the time. So while I may not lose weight by doing it... at least I will be attempting to get control of my eating habits.

I hear you there. I go through such spurts with this. I am mostly good and then well, I have major weaknesses. Cheeseburgers (and fries) being one of them. Homemade bread that my IT guy brings in EVERY DAY to the office, along with the office kitchen stocked with free all you can eat cheezits, peanut butter filled pretzels...being another.

She definitely rocks!

:goodvibes

I think the change, in the end, worked out well. It's a little earlier than the original but that gets us home a little earlier and it was a late arrival. 15 min less in the air and seated together. All good!

I really do not want to do a 4/1/3 split. That would totally suck. I hope the waitlist comes through. I have not cancelled the one studio because I can't make up my mind if it would be better or just more of a hassle to have the 2 rooms. Unless you need the points now, there isn't any rush to cancel the extra studio is there? Believe me though, I get how important 10 points can be! I keep debating our first night in Aulani. The plan is to get there in the evening, do a studio for 1 night and a 1B (ocean view) for 5. 6 total. I'd like 7 but Evan will have to be back for drama stuff. Good news about that is then we can swing 5 in the OV 1B. can't do 6. Well, can't do 6 and do what I just did today. LOL! And really, 50 points for one night, 11pm arrival...I just can't justify it! So wasn't going to anyway. But the question becomes that studio for the 1 night. I can do a studio, in any of 4 view categories or a hotel room (new booking category). The standard view sucks, we had it for one night last may. But it was one night! One morning of it, totally livable. We were thinking of doing the 1 night in an ocean view studio as well, you know how we feel about coffee on the lanai and our view. But it's an 8 point difference between that and the hotel room. Which has 2 queen beds versus the queen and sleeper sofa.

8 points is well, 8 points.

I booked the hotel room (as there aren't many and they will go). I can change it pretty late to an Ocean View but...

8 points is 8 points.

Of course I had zero such concerns when it was a 5 point difference between SSR and BWV Boardwalk View. :lmao: then again that was over 3 nights, versus one!

It was. For a moment I think he reconsidered last night when he knew today it was opening to the public. Ultimately we are full in for the donald and that week in FL so it is fine.

Next year!

They have some very cute ones! I've not actually tried any of theirs on. I have found with the lulu stuff I have, the "bad" fabric content is higher and it irritates me more so I avoid most of it. I bought one pair of winter tights and have had issues. Used to have a few of their tops (sadly, gave them away) and still own a capri and a legging but...they don't see the use they used to. :sad1:

Except for the silverescent tanks and tees. I am completely addicted to them.
100% stink free and fabric that works for me. :thumbsup2 and oh, it breathes!

As unfortunate as it is.... I agree.

At the end of the day I suspect you'll be happier.

I am so behind on everything. I need to look at the course.

not really, I just looked at it this week!

You will be fine!

Ugh. I feel like I've lost ground but I also know I have enough time and once I get through this week...can get it back.

They hold my hair very well. I paid like nothing for them so if they fall apart I am not out much... but I do need to wash them... and I worry a bit they may not survive a washing.

lol. Hopefully a gentle soak won't do them in. Super cute! I found the best hairband. Totally random but when I picked up our Emerald City packets I popped into RR to check out those yellow shoes. MAN are they bright! Pretty cute though. Anyway, I found a yellow headband at the register on clearance for $4. Mostly in non allergic fabric which is not typical in a headband. Stayed on like a dream for the 15k, by far the best I've had with one so far. I have a skirt sports one that I like but it often feels like it is slipping, even if it isn't.

For me it got much better once I started to take zyrtec. It is Zoe and Steve that are being really hit hard.

BOO. I thought the pollen count had gone way down this week

I love cheeseburgers. I could eat one (and last month I did) almost every day. It just can't be all that good for me even though I go with small burgers without a ton of condiments on them.

I could eat one once a week

I could eat macaroni and cheese every day :rotfl:

That is awesome! Course... bigger means we also have someone else to sit with. I am sure we can play nice with them though. ;)

:rotfl: that is true, it was a 2 seat row on the other plane.

tough but still for 1 night, I wouldn't give up hope

that will be fun to poke around!

Yeah... my gut is telling me it will be a cooler race. Maybe even take a sweatshirt to toss type of deal.

maybe. it's tough as you do warm up and then don't want the long sleeve

They are! I just have to resist the urge to only wear the stuff I buy at a race. It can be expensive and so I need to not horde things for a single use. Especially when I am in need of some more gear. (not that I am ready to get rid of old stuff but some things are nearing the end of their life)

I know what you mean. I kind of want another pair of shorts. I don't need them. But they match 2 tanks...and I could wear them for the June race...and it's silly. June around here is a crapshoot, I could end up not even in a tank and shorts not to mention I have plenty of other things.

This is true. I could save on shipping if I just picked up a skirt for the next race at each expo.

exactly!

Let the planning begin! :rotfl:

I had an idea today. I will keep my eyes out but I don't think it will be that easy to do.

I guess they all are technically skorts, but the one I tried on had no flare to it whatsoever. It was just cut straight and since I am pear shaped it really didn't work. I think I need to find one with more of a flare in the skirt part. Maybe I would like that. A lot of my running clothes are just old and have been washed a million times and I never really cared cause no one sees me, but you have me inspired for a "cute" running outfit.

Ann - I totally agree with you on the sparkle skirt. I have one and I love it for my long run days. I noticed that I was chafing at the thighs on my long runs, so I need the long tighter shorts underneath and I think the skirt looks better than shorts on shorts. I also like the pockets too. The only downside is that it is a little heavier than shorts.

In principle that sounds good....as long as it doesn't complicate your vacations

It was what I thought it would be. I will have to sit down with a calendar. I will just have to shift things differently. Where I can't shift the work, I will have to just have someone cover for me. It sucks because I don't get paid vacation so time not worked is time not paid. I have always managed to shift things easily enough that I don't lose any hours by taking vacation. I think in January I only missed a couple. Good news though is that I shouldn't have to work weekends like I once did.

planning a race around an outfit you already have...well there are worse things I think!

:rotfl:

:rotfl2: there are definitely worse things. I saw some cute patriotic themed sparkle skirts that are adorable... but I though :scratchin "what race could I register for around the 4th of july"

OMG! FRIES!!! Thankfully I didn't cut them out. I think I mostly eat ok. However I think my more recent "healthier" diet may be making me a tad ill. All the salad... and we had a juice promo I worked on for work last week and I went ahead and tried some new juice. (I truly believe the only people who get suckered into all the advertising are the people who work the jobs cause no one else notices anything) Anyway... the juice and salads... :rolleyes1 may have had a bit of a cleansing affect. So yeah... the "garbage" I was eating didn't leave me feeling like this.

I think the change, in the end, worked out well. It's a little earlier than the original but that gets us home a little earlier and it was a late arrival. 15 min less in the air and seated together. All good!

Agreed :thumbsup2

Unless you need the points now, there isn't any rush to cancel the extra studio is there?

Well, as you know things have been a changin since I wrote about it. The studios were on borrowed points though...so even if I cancel they would sit in the 2013 UY and I would need to find a way to use them. Might as well just keep the studios as is and hope the waitlist comes through.

LOL!

:cool1::cool1:

And really, 50 points for one night, 11pm arrival...I just can't justify it!

That is a crazy amount for one night! You got the three in february for not too much more than that.

8 points is 8 points. I think I have a better handle on things and in the future I don't know that I will be so quick to book things I don't necessarily want or need. I kinda feel like I wasted those 10 points in the studio and also the 32 in the 2 bedroom on the night of our arrival. We could have done the 2 bedroom for one more additional day and made the split 1/4/3 instead of 4/1/3. If I had been thinking I could have booked us at any other resort in a studio for less than the 2 at OKW on the 1 night in the middle. Course... this is all assuming that waitlist does not come through. If it does then I totally will feel good about it. Right now though... I just feel like 10 points is 10 points.

Of course I had zero such concerns when it was a 5 point difference between SSR and BWV Boardwalk View. :lmao: then again that was over 3 nights, versus one!

I think that is it right there. Easier to say that it is more when it is more nights. :thumbsup2

Next year!

I am leaning towards Avengers for next year. I know that no matter what I will likely never do legacy for anything so waiting a year, at the end of the day, doesn't really matter.

We will likely do Avengers next year. I could see us skipping marathon weekend and doing Star Wars. I think a lot will depend on how well we like or don't like the DLR courses.

So excited to post an official update on the subject. :thumbsup2

Just wait till you see... :rotfl:

the pattern is SO cute!

I think it is kinda fun. Plus I definitely can wear it more than just at a disney race.

I just don't know... that minnie tech light sparkle skirt is fun and not something I really have felt like I could wear anywhere else. I may end up with a white tank of some sort just to be able to wear it. Then again... castle to castle would be good too. Decisions Decisions. :confused3

Except for the silverescent tanks and tees. I am completely addicted to them.
100% stink free and fabric that works for me. :thumbsup2 and oh, it breathes!

finding something that works is important!!!

Ugh. I feel like I've lost ground but I also know I have enough time and once I get through this week...can get it back.

You are in such great shape that anything you may have lost I am sure you will get back quickly!!

It is awesome to find something on clearance...but to have it work is definitely a bonus! So did you get the yellow shoes?

BOO. I thought the pollen count had gone way down this week

I think it could be in some areas. I know that even today when I was out for my run there was lots of cottonwood drifting through the air.

I could eat one once a week

I could eat macaroni and cheese every day :rotfl:

So do you make sure to eat at places that have it while in WDW? Like Chefs de France? I know there are some good burgers down in WDW..but I don't eat them there (unless I count a CS...which I am not)

wow, I am surprised SV is gone at 7m! Will you waitlist for it? I would think you'd have a good chance.

It really surprised me too. I have seen availability up until recently for October. Given it isn't terribly close to race start/finish it also seems to be not a first choice. AND given that there are standard view rooms available (or were) It is all odd to me. Course, I think there were a lot of people who booked marathon weekend. If you have watched on the dvc fb group, there was people talking about not finding complete availability anywhere. I have do have more hope that the waitlist I put in for it will go through than for the BWV one I have - even though it is 4 nights verses just the one.

I hear you there. I couldn't fit in both a race and adventure run, I am honestly a bit amazed we have done as many races as we have, I would not have expected that. I would like to do something in July and August but we will see.

You are doing something in August ;) Kinda funny... that means having a race down in June will just mean one more local one until the "big" one in CA.

that will be fun to poke around!

Indeed it will! Course, I wish that they had specials... but if memory serves they really don't.

maybe. it's tough as you do warm up and then don't want the long sleeve

I will just toss it then. When I was first preparing for the phm, I read all sorts of recommendations. This was one I planned out and never had to use. I guess a couple years back (I think it was) marathon weekend was super super cold...like start in the 30s? So people suggested bringing blankets and sweatshirts. Disney collects all that are abandoned and donates them. I believe it is the same kinda of deal in CA.

I know what you mean. I kind of want another pair of shorts. I don't need them. But they match 2 tanks...and I could wear them for the June race...and it's silly. June around here is a crapshoot, I could end up not even in a tank and shorts not to mention I have plenty of other things.

June definitely can be! Look at today!! When I went out this afternoon it was pretty warm and the humidity was climbing. Then the storm clouds rolled in and we got winds and torrential rain. Now it is very chilly. So I ran in a tank... but steve who ran later than I did would have been better off in a rain jacket.

I had an idea today. I will keep my eyes out but I don't think it will be that easy to do.

I think that is the fun I have in it is just keeping an eye out... maybe I "think" I will want to run with something but then never follow through...but I had fun trying to put it together.

Well, take a peak at sparkleskirts.com They are very spendy, but I think worth it. They are very well made, have quite the variety and have great customer service. It is just hard to get over the cost...

That is true, they are a tad heavy aren't they. Funny though that it feels pretty airy when on.

Training going well for you? I see all your RK notifications come through. So awesome!!!

Our wait list came through :woohoo: so we will not be staying at OKW. We will ONLY stay at kidani for the full 7 nights! You can read more about that here

It is so weird that marathon weekend is just 7 months away. It seems like were just there!

Given that it is though, it is time to make our final plans for where are were staying. Given that our main DVC home is OKW (yes, we have a new home :cool1: but I will get to that later) we used our 11 month advantage to book a studio near hospitality for a week. Zoe had requested a specific resort though and so I had to try to get that at the 7 month window. So I watched and as my window came into view (basically, if checking in on 1/7 - I could start looking at rooms on 1/1 because 1/7 would be the last date I could include in it. Then each day I could go closer and closer until all my dates were included) So I checked each day and each day looked open until BAM the night of 1/9 came in to view and was sold out. Sadly what this does is I have wait then in order to book. I did not want to split the stay before we ran our race. The race is 1/10. So when the 10th came into view I could have booked starting with that date, but checking out of OKW and into the new resort would have not been a good idea. SOOOOO I had to wait until 1/11. I got up very very early. Turns out (given that there is still availability starting on that night) I did not need to be up at 5:45 to get my room booked. However, with my luck had I not...it would have been sold out.

SOOO with a 4/3 split and a waitlist to shift the first 4 to where the last 3 are here is what we will have (sorry, gonna borrow some internet pics for the OKW studio)

I wonder if like most resorts, if they have swapped out the bedspread. It is a bit dark, but I think it goes well with the theming so I wonder how a white sheet will look.

So I have been on the fence about doing the race. I have wanted to. I had it in my sights even this time last year. I had thought that Steve would run it with me and we would skip the donald. However when he wanted to do the donald again and that definitely through a monkey wrench in things for me.

Then I wondered who I would run "with" if I did go and who I would go with? Would I run alone? Would I travel alone? These were questions I had. Then my old travel buddy thought she might be able to go. :cool1: So I really started to take the thought more seriously. However, plans were more of a big MAYBE for her than a sure thing. After all she is pregnant! So I kinda backed off and thought maybe it would become clearer for both of us once we got closer to the registration.

With a month before registration, I really started feeling like I had to go no matter what. Maybe that had something to do with the race registration excitement of the Star Wars race that I didn't get swept up into. Maybe it was influence. However, I did feel that it probably wasn't the best time for my previous travel companion. She has a lot on her plate. So running it by her, it was agreed we would make other plans. I really would have loved to have her there. It would have meant a different kind of trip though with her having focus on her new baby and young daughter and all that disney has to offer for them and the race for me.

Meanwhile another travel companion of mine (well, soon to be anyway) was deciding if she was going to attempt the phm. I was 99% sure that I would be doing it regardless before she decided that she too was thinking of doing it. This pushed me to the 100%

So I definitely am doing the phm! :woohoo: I know.. probably not too surprising. I have had it in my ticker all along and have had it down in my official dates on page one. I know I could have gone by myself. However, knowing that someone else was for sure going made a huge difference. After all, WDW is fun solo but even more fun with someone else. :goodvibes

I am all kinds of updating tonight on this PTR, aren't I???

So I should start by announcing something. I have been on the hunt for an additional dvc contract for a while. Steve and I had agreed to one of three resorts. In order of preference, they were : BWV, VWL and AKL.

BWV would give us advantage for Food and Wine and also for a great location during races.

VWL would give us advantage during Christmas time. WL remains Steve"s all time favorite resort too.

AKL would give us advantage to book the value room (the lowest cost dvc accommodation) Not to mention, I LOVE it there. It definitely ranks up in my favorites. However since it is a ways out and not always a host resort for races (even WL tends to be) it was lowest on the list.

When looking for a contract to add on there were key elements we were keeping in mind.
  1. Use Year needed to match our current one.
  2. We wanted a small contract. Somewhere between 50 and 75 points.
  3. We didn't want to pay too much per point. (or in total cost)
  4. We didn't want it to be totally stripped. In other words, we needed points to hit our account before our 2015 UY which is not for another year and a half.

It has been a frustrating things as none of these things line up and if they do are gone before I can even get to call in about them.

So I decided to call our guide. Each DVC member has a guide. Ours was assigned to us even before we purchased. (not sure if I have ever mentioned, but we looked at DVC quite a few times before taking the plunge:rolleyes:) It was amazing. Disney had acquired enough older stock in AKL that they had inventory.(basically when someone sells in the resale market Disney has the right to buy it back first) We could purchase a 50 point or whatever we needed, have it be our year AND we would be granted 2013 points since we were technically still in that use year. Plus there was a member incentive. So while it was a tad more than if we had waited around for the "right" resale it wasn't THAT much more.

When we purchased our OKW contract it was a long process. It was months between the offer we made until we had points in our account. I told our guide that I would need to run the numbers by my husband. I asked what I needed to do to proceed and he just told me to call him back. So I did yesterday. So by the end of the day yesterday, we were owners at AKL with points in our account! :woohoo: Well, kinda. We still need to close. However Disney makes it so easy to add on it is crazy. Those points hit my account yesteray (even though we have not closed) I have already had them swap out some borrowed 2014 points in my October trip (which is not something normally just "done" but done because we bought direct) and....

What did I book today with those new AKL points that were burning a hole in my "pocket". Well, what else would I book given that we are outside the 7 month window???

::yes::

I booked another studio with a savannah view!!! :cool1:

And since another DVC member was going to run the phm as well we decided to room together and she booked a room too! (well, she booked hers when she decided she was running the phm...but I think she added me to the reservation today:goodvibes)

So we have a 2/3 split at KV in a studio with a savannah view and BWV in a studio with a boardwalk view. Next month I will waitlist the 2 nights for a room to match up with hers.

Yay for booking your resorts! I am so on the fence for the PHM. I KNOW I should sign up for it, but my friends and I also really want to do the Disney Cruise next year which would fill a lot of my vacation time. I supposed I could do a quick 3 days trip to WDW for the race. Leave Friday night and come home Monday......I feel like Steve doing vacation math right now! My friend has been bugging me about going back to Disney this winter, her friend is a CM so she would be able to get us a 40% hotel discount. I wish registration would be pushed out another month! THEN I have to figure out how to get my C2C next year. I wish Wine & Dine and Avengers were spaced out a bit more.

Meanwhile back on the farm since all the remaining Disney races are booked for the year, I have a 10K next weekend, and a 3.5 miler two days after that! Still trying to find some decent July and August races, then the next half will be on October. September has a billion races I can participate in.
