My DD moved out, DS wants her room (its bigger) so I thought I would paint and redo his room. He doesn't care what I do. He is not into to sports.

My DD always tells me exactly what she wants LOL. Any ideas? TIA

I have two boys and as they got older and outgrew their solar system and cars decor, we just painted both their rooms a neutral color, got them comforters and curtains in a plain color (blue, grey, black, etc.) and then let them pick a few posters from allposters.com. Boys are easy! Every couple of years I'd offer new posters, comforters, etc. and usually they'd turn me down.

This is exactly what I did!!

Once my son grew out of the baby-ish stuff, I painted his room a neutral color and then used a multi-colored plaid bed spread and coordinating pics that had sort of a patriotic theme.

When he was about 15, we got him a queen sized bed since he was getting so tall and redid his room again. He liked stuff from Ikea and, while there, picked out a duvet cover he liked (tan, brown, black) and I picked out a neutral "khaki" paint off of that. His room is actulaly really nice and soothing.

For my DS, it ended up being a "skateboard" room. Grey carpet, brick wallpaper that is 1/3 the way up, chair rail, and then a darkish beige color at the top 2/3. I saw skateboard shelves at Pottery Barn that were incredibly expensive, so I looked online and was able to get 5 skateboard decks for $55.00. Got two sets and he has his shelves set up with his various action figures. I like the room as it's not "Kiddie" and not too bright. It did him well for the last 7 years. He leaves on Tuesday for college!!!!!!

Good luck.

Well, my DS is now 10 and we did a mini "man cave" when he was 8. We got a full sized loft bed and underneath it set up a futon for the "sofa" / sleep over bed for a friend. He picked out a grayish color for the wall. Hurted my heart to get rid of the Andy's Room cloud motif we copied but took a picture of it blew it up to poster size (18x20) and it proudly sits behind his Toy Story collection. That shelf is his Pixar shelf as he calls it as he's got the cars from cars displayed up there too even lotso...lol! He is a Lego lover so the second shelf is dedicated to his Lego creations but we also did a Lego wall. It's about a 3ftx3ft square we mounted to the wall made of the green base plates glued together and what does not make it into one of the bins go on the wall! But other than that some replica movie posters, a couple of skate boards, oh and a couple of cubed storage ottomans on casters and DS is happy.

I found a site on line (I forget the name) that had thousands of pictures of bedroom ideas. I just searched for teen boys bedrooms. I had DS look through it with me for 30-45 minutes until we settled on an overall idea.

This is what he settled on:
Beige walls (two shades, but so close it's not real obvious).
Wide-striped bedding in dark blue, light blue and white.
Stainless steel industrial shelves, desk and chair (covered in beige, navy and red fabric).
We added two floating shelves above the desk.
Finished it off with a couple more red accents (bulletin board, pillow, etc).
He filled the wall space with a couple Colts posters.

Pretty easy to pull together once he had narrowed down on the general concept and colors he liked.

I decorated my tween son's room with a surfer/beach theme. I installed a wall length sized wall paper mural of a surfer in the middle of a large wave on one wall and painted the other 3 walls a caribbean blue. I hung a sign that says "Beach closed due to shark sighting" and a couple of ocean/beach style paintings that dh and I found in the Dominican Republic. We also bought a skim board to hang up on the wall somewhere, but ds uses that as a lap desk for his laptop, so it hasn't been hung. I've been meaning to look for an old, cheap surfboard to hang instead. His comforter has several different shades of blue stripes with an orange stripe intermixed.

Saw this room on Pintrest when I was helping my nephew with ideas.

I really like the khaki color with the orange stripe. This one has a baseball comforter but it could go with anything. I just the the stripe adds a lot of interest.

I like the big stripe too, could do the stripe and curtains the same color. Also, I was going to get him a computer desk. I like how those shelves above the desk look.

I will see if I can find it, thanks.

Thanks, everyone!

DS11 is into guitars and we are planning a room re-do for next summer. It is really hard to find any interesting comforters for boys. Lots of solid neutrals! He has stripes now so I think we're just doing a solid color wall with maybe one wall a different color if he insists. He already has some guitar posters but I'd like to get some hangers for his guitars to display them too.

Does your DS have a hobby or favorite color? I hope to go with a neutral wall color so we can change decorations again without starting over as he gets older.

His favorite color is blue, and unfortunately his favorite thing to do, is play Minecraft on the computer.

I do have this cool map of the United States, that he likes (in 5th grade last year, he had to learn all the states and capitals, so I bought this map) I think I am going to make a frame, and hang that on one of the walls.

DH and I have been thinking about getting him a guitar, my DH used to play, so it would be something they could do together. I might put that on my list for possible Christmas presents.

Do you mind if I ask where you got these? My DS would love to have a Lego wall, and I'd love to get it for him!

We redid my son's room with:

Two Navy blue walls and two hunter Green walls, a Navy/multicolor berber carpeting
White, wideband vertical blinds and two long White shelfs where he has a few little league trophies and baseballs. A big white desk lamp too.

Each window has only a valance, one is Greenbay Packer green, one of a banner flag from the All star game at Millerpark (Brewers). He has mainly baseball related things on the walls, a few football.

He has a solid Red comforter.

So someday it'll take a lot of primer to paint over but I never regretted the decision.
He's always been happy with it and it turned out very cool!! He's 20 now.
