TV channels at Disney resorts stink

But you must admit that most people like to watch a little tv during the course of the day. And it's unconscionable for Disney not to offer even full basic cable when the most rundown, fleabag, rat-infested, pay-by-the-hour motel gives you HBO.

Because I don't frequently stay at rundown, fleabag, rat-infested, pay-by-the-hour motels, I don't know whether or not HBO is typically offered at them.

But I do know I enjoyed what TV I did see while staying at the Wilderness Lodge last June.

Like I said before, different strokes for different folks.

Here's an idea. Maybe the next time you visit Orlando, you should stay at a rundown, fleabag, rat-infested, pay-by-the-hour motel. That way you can watch HBO whenever you want.

That's because we have NO CABLE, and NO SATELLITE.
That's right, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, and Public TV.

SORRY. I'm going to have to report you to the HOUSE UNAMERICAN ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE.........

The Automart guys try too hard to be funny. The Appliance Direct commercials are funnier because that guy doesn't even know he's funny. And living in NYC I've never seen an Asian with a southern drawl and I find it fascinating.

We just got back yesterday, and I have to say that I thought the same thing. We spend most of our time out at the parks, restaurants, pool, etc, but there were times when I sat back with a pina colada wine cooler  (hey...I could keep it in the fridge) folding clothes (DVC stay) when I would have liked to watch "something" else. And then I'd get caught up in one of those great ;) Lifetime Movies for Women, and have to tear myself away from it right when the trial started or the police arrived or the ex-husband showed up or the kid told her mother she hated her or...! Darn! ;) ;)

We did watch the weather channel quite a bit because the weather changed so much day to day this past week.

I MISSED the AutoMart guys?!?!?! I'll have to put it in my plans for my next trip.

Steve, I seriously doubt that HBO programming, in total, would meet Disney's higher standards for better family viewing at WDW. The only TV I watch at WDW is the Weather Channel and a bit of CNN to stay somewhat current. I enjoy a bit of DIS time on the laptop to winddown late, or like now, when it is raining out and I have been here for some time already and not rushing here and there.

Dan.....aren't you home yet????

HBO? I don't think we'll ever see that at a Disney hotel. But what about basic cable? It's a small thing to ask (considering you get basic cable AND hbo at the fleabags).

I really like the Disney resort TV stuff, esp. for the kids. I could watch the DVC channel and the "tip for today" channel all day. They like Toon Disney which we don't have at home. We stayed at the Dolphin this weekend and had HBO, and I would trade it for all the Disney channels in a heartbeat. I was flipping channel and there was some 80s movie with Kevin Bacon and Jami Gertz and people doing stunts on bikes. What the heck is that! It was almost a 20 year old movie!

Personally, I don't go for the television. And no, Disney doesn't support it's competition. My boys were not happy that there was no Nickelodeon channel. Our boys are also cable/satellite impaired. Only the major networks, PBS, & PAX. Ilike to leave the DVC channel on - I hoping that DH will receive subliminal messages to BUY!

My guess is Disney doesn't offer a full slate of TV channels in their resorts for the same reason most hotels in Las Vegas don't (or didn't; it's been a few years since I've been out there) . . it's because they want you out spending money not sitting in the room watching the tube. .

(As a matter fact, a lot of hotels in Vegas didn't even have TV's in the rooms back in the 60's and 70's. . . )

Plus, as Dan's post touches on, there would be a constant problem with a certain % of guests complaining if Disney offered access to the Premium channels and little Johnny accidently flipped on "Real Sex" some evening. . LOL!! ;)

LOL!

When at Disney - watch The Disney Channel - that is what we do..... and we end up with great family time......

who has time to watch tv..:o

No TV for me at WDW. I can only hope to crawl into that bed and crash for the night. I never even think about TV while I'm there.
This is an interesting thread.

Much to DH's chagrin, I also like to watch the resort TV. He say "Haven't you had enough????" Well, we know the answer to that question.
