Headed to AK in the Fall for the first time in years. Wanna try Tusker House, but 2 of my 4 are kinda picky. We usually have luck at buffets, because there's something for everyone...but how exotic is it?TIA!

I don't know if you are looking at breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I can only speak for breakfast. As far as breakfast goes, there is something there for everyone. It has many traditional breakfast items. You can look at the menu on-line. It may help to decide for lunch or dinner. I'm sure someone here will give you more information for lunch and dinner.

Looking at dinner....looks like lots of African inspired dishes....I'd love...not sure of the rest!!!

Nothing exotic really at all. Chicken, pork and beef with fancy names only. My DH was quite disappointed to hear that he would not be able to "eat the zoo" while at Animal Kingdom. :( We were more than surprised to see absolutely no alligator on the menu! Or kangaroo... or emu... or anything that wasn't remotely from a grocery store!

I have to say we didn't love Tusker House breakfast...I know we're in the minority. We found the choices limited if you weren't interested in the more ethnic options. No judgement of food quality, just wasn't for us. We did love the characters in their safari uniforms! If the kids are the only ones in question, I think it would be fine.

One piece of advice I read on these boards is to get a late breakfast reservation...10:40 or so. That will let you get to a few rides and then go to the restaurant. The food will be breakfast when you arrive and will switch over to lunch at 11:00. That way you will have more choices of foods both breakfast and lunch.

This is what we do, and we love it!

The most exotic thing I have seen on any menu at WDW is ostrich. Even things like squab, quail and rabbit are not represented on menus, despite being common sightings on fine dining menus.

I don't remember any "ethnic" options at breakfast? They had biscuits and gravy, eggs, breakfast potatoes, waffles, bagels,... *shrug*

It's not as exotic as it sounds. And like others have said they still have plenty of traditional American foods at breakfast and kids options at lunch and dinner. They've got stuff like mac and cheese and corn dogs at both lunch and dinner.

My mom is a picky eater, and she's been able to find plenty at both breakfast and lunch. Dinner is basically the same as lunch. I love the food because the do a pretty good job of having some curries and more African type foods, and also having standard buffet fair. I love their curries because they are flavorful but not overly hot. My husband, however, had to add some of the spicey sauces to his.

They must have missed the eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, carved meats, waffles, biscuits, fruit, pastries, blintzes, doughnuts, bagels, yogurt, and bread pudding. TH does have bobotie & pap with chakalaka. I guess those two "ethnic" choices made it impossible for that poster to find something to eat. :lmao:

Last time we were at Tuskers house I did have curry for breakfast.

But truth be told I sometime have curry for breakfast at home, well when we've had a Indian takeaway the night before and there's leftover, I'll eat them in the morning, oh yes the breakfast of champions.

But we also had scrambled eggs, Mickey waffles, sausages and bacon etc...

I thought it was a great selection and my little one loved it and he's very picky.

There's a difference between exotic flavors and exotic animals. And given that it's an African themed restaurant, not sure why kangaroo or emu would be expected...

Yep, I found breakfast to be incredibly boring, at least for this vegetarian family. I took a spin around the buffet, found very little interesting, and waited until lunch showed up. We won't be bothering with the "brunch" ADR in the future.

Nothing beter than cold jasmine rice and aloo palak the day after!

If you want to spring for the difference and you are looking for an exotic meal, look at Jiko, Boma and Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge. It will cost more, but I am sure it will be worth it.

When we last went (2013) my children happily filled up on uncrustables and desserts.

Yes, I recommend that you get a late breakfast reservation. If you do, you will be able to try the breakfast items and then also try the lunch items as they switch over to lunch. Surely you and the kids will be able to find something to eat. If you are looking for more exotic options then go for Tiffin's.
