Tusker House....CS??

Tusker house used to be counter service. I believe it converted to TS sometime last year.

Yes, it was converted to a buffet -- similar to Boma, but more Indian inspired dishes instead of African style foods. It's getting really good reviews. I loved TH as a CS and was sorry at first that they converted it, but we are trying the new buffet for lunch on my b-day :goodvibes

Tusker House is full buffett now (no counter service.) We had dinner there May 19, and really enjoyed it.

Can you give us a little description of the foods, my party will NOT want Indian food if that is what they have . . .:confused3 TIA;)

Dinner looks about the same, except they also have prime rib, and it's 26.99.

The food at Tusker house was very very good. We had lunch there a few weeks ago, and I must tell you, they even had PB&J.... You will definately find something to eat. It is set up like a market place. I thought it was beautiful. Would you like to see pictures? :)

Yes, I'd love to see them! :goodvibes

I had zaffron rice, a piece of grain bread, a piece of turkey, and chicken in a sauce. and some mashed potatoes. Everything was good.

For dessert I had a banana pudding with custard topping. It was excellent. (I also had a brownie)

Here is an idea of how they have it set up. It's like a courtyard with lots of carts. This is one of the dessert carts.

Thanks for the photos and the link, it looks like we'll have to look elsewhere to eat. There's not much at AK, can I assume that Yak & Yehti is the same with all the ethnic food? I'd love to try it personally but the other 3 in my party are not willing (2 are children and very picky eaters) and one adult with a very sensitive stomach. Any recommendations for the AK area for "american" food? There doesn't seem to be that many choices in AK. :confused3

Chip & Dales in Camp Minnie/Mickey has hot dogs...

Flame Tree BBQ also has hot dogs, chicken wings, turkey sandwich

Pizzafari has....pizza! Also salads and sandwiches.

Restaurantarus has burgers, hot dogs and McDonald's chicken nuggets.

Rainforest Cafe has a whole menu of stuff that is "American".....but you'll definitely need to make an ADR, or be prepared for a long long wait, this place is always full.

Thank you for the pics, JKY! The food looks wonderful (we love Boma!), and I appreciated seeing the inside of the place. When TH was a CS the inside was cool, but kind of austere, very bare bones. It fit the theme of the old CS, but I was hoping for something a little more fun and festive for the decor, and it looks like they've redone the inside really nicely :thumbsup2 DH loves curry and Indian spices, and I love trying new things...I think this was a perfect choice for my birthday lunch :goodvibes

Thanks for the infor I've only eaten at Rainforest Cafe but since we're on the DDP I was trying to get a TS so I guess we'll do a CS instead and keep the TS for something else (not that there is no other places we can use it, right?) Thanks again to all.;) :thumbsup2

You are correct, the only TS restaurants for dining plan use at AK are Tusker House and Yak & Yeti. All others are CS.

All of the food at Tusker House is not Indian/ethnic; we found that the picky eater in our crowd had no problems getting full there...I would say at least 1/2 of the offerings at Tusker House is plain old buffet food you'd find anywhere in U.S., and not overly spicy. The kids' buffet is not the spicy stuff at all (and I saw many adults filling what appeared to be their own plates at the kids' buffet.)

Everyone I know would say I'm the pickiest eater they know and I'm going to TH for dinner in Sept. I never eat anything spicy, pasta sauce is too spicy for me! If I have pizza, I remove most of the sauce.

I was planning on getting a PB&J sandwich as it might be the only time I get to eat one during my 14 night stay. I actually eat a peanut butter sandwich everyday for lunch!

I've never had couscous, but I plan on trying it while at TH. With the free DDP I'm going to try to eat some different/new things.
