Tusker House and Mara Really Good

We ate lunch at Tusker House at AK on Oct 3. Everything was wonderful until we got to the lava cake. It made DH and I stop eating it was so bad. It didn't taste like chocolate at all. DH actually got nauseous after eating it. Funny but the same thing happened to my mother last month when she had it. All the different couscous and meats were really yummy and the apple and blue cheese salad was great. We would definitely go there again.

Dinner that night we ate at Mara at AKL. DH got a chicken caesar and loved it. I got the chicken pita and can't wait to go back in December for another one. Also got to try the butternut squash and the lentil and sausage soups. YUM!!! I brought the butternut squash soup home b/c it was so rich I couldn't eat it all. I think it would be good with cookies to dunk in it. It tastes more like a dessert than a soup. I expected savory not sweet with cinnamon. DH got a piece of carrot cake and thought it was one of the best he's had in a long time. It had actual carrot instead of coconut which he was thrilled about.

Thank goodness we drive and bring a cooler with us because we brought home zebra domes for family who love them but can't make it back soon. When we go in December we have reservations for Boma. We took a sneak peak while we were wandering around AKL before going back to the room and that thing is huge. Can't wait to check that out since the smells coming from it were delicious. They had she-crab soup and ribs on the menu that Saturday night so I hope they have them in December when we go on a Friday.

Sounds like you had a good meal though. That is good, can't wait to be there soon!

Not sure what was wrong with the lava cake but it didn't even taste like chocolate. The strawberry mousse was good as was the baklava but after eating the lava cake I couldn't finish my baklava which is one of my favorites.

Tusker House lunch buffet was my best and favorite meal from the trip a few weeks ago. Sorry to hear about the cake - all the desserts were excellent when I was there.
