Turnstyle question

I didn't think about it until reading another thread but I have had my entire torso "redesigned" and so I am left with some very sensative areas on my back from nerve damage. I have to wear low rise jeans because I can't have the pressure of pants on my lower back. Even my fanny pak sits more on my hips because the sensation is so uncomfortable.

I am concerned that some turnstyles tend to spring back at you when you go through them. This would really be torture for me as even the slightest touch really bothers me.

This will be my first trip do WDW since my surgery and I can't remember if this was an issue at WDW. Has anyone else experienced this at WDW?

I have not even been through a turnstyle since the surgery.

you can tell them that you have probelms going through a turn style and they will open the gate for you that they use for strollers and wheelchairs - we took 13 adultes with special needs for teh past two years and we never had an issue with going through the gate instead

I often work at one of the park entrances.

One thing I do, for example, when children of a certain height are going through is I will actually hold onto the bar that is coming up just as a precaution in case they slam their push bar so fast that the bar in back might hit their head. You could, for example, when going through hold one hand on the bar coming up just to prevent any accidental contact.

If a person asks to use the gate instead of a turnstile that is never a problem.

And within the Parks there is almost no use of turnstiles for counting guests any more, there are electronic/light beam counters that you just walk through.

The other thing I have heard of people doing is going thru the turnstile sideways.
But, as was already mentioned, most of the turnstiles have been replaced with other types of counters.

You have a valid concern.

A bigger concern (HEY, IS ANYONE AT WDW LISTENING?????) is the need to remove, redesign or replace the turnstyles at Country Bear show and at COP. These two are very poorly positioned and cause guest problems.

Both of those shows also have gates to let people with wheelchairs go thru. My suggestion (at least until any changes are made) would be for people who have problems with the turnstiles to go thru the wheelchair gate. They both lead to the same place.

The other place that I would use caution is at The Great Movie Ride, in Disney's Hollywood Studios. Although there is not a turnstile, you have to go through a fairly narrow set of rails just before leaving the preshow room to enter the loading area. Absolutely no problem if you're paying attention, but many people are watching the film loop and not where they're going. I, and everyone I know, have banged tummies or hips into those railings! Just remember to glance down and you'll be fine!

Many of the older rides have old, smaller turnstiles. My issue with these turnstiles is my size. I'm simply too wide to walk through them. I think the technique I use may work for you in your situation.

Instead of walking straight through the turnstile, turn and face it, and walk through sideways. You'll be pushing the bar with your right hip. If it swings back and hits you, it'll hit your left hip instead of your back.

Thanks. That's a better description of what I was trying to say in post 4.

You will have no issues what so ever. Just ask the cast member to use the gate rather than the turnstile. No questions asked....

No, the response of asking a CM to use the gate is not accurate. It might be textbook Disney, but in fact they are not always acomidating, they sometimes give you looks and in 2009 there is no reason to seperate guests when a simple update to OLD shows could be improved upon.

NO, NO, NO. Fix the problem.
