We are planning on a trip durring my daughter's birthday next year. I know her turning ten won't be a problem with the park ticket, but what about DDP? Does it change over to adult, and if so will we be charged the adult rate after her birthday? Anyone have any experience with this?

Well, you will probably find lots of differing opinion on this but here is mine:

If your daughter turns ten before you arrive, she should be on the adult plan (although Disney will probably not enforce this, if she is officially listed as 9 on the reservation).

If you daughter turns ten while in WDW, I think it is fine that she is on the child's plan. (Once again, you will not be "forced" to put you daughter on the adult plan the day she turns ten, Disney would only go by the age of your daughter listed on your reservation at the time you made it).

Thanks. We are planing on going right before her birthday so we can save a few bucks, then it hit me I didn't have a clue how it would work with DDP. I see no reason to pump her up to adult if they dont make us.

Considering it's considered a pre-paid plan, the age the child is on the day you check in is the age you need to pay for. Sounds like you're good the way it is. No worries.

For heaven's sakes-unless your daughter's appetite suddenly changes so that she wants to eat more food the minute she turns 10 leave things be.
The girl is 9 years old ...period.

Your age is based on the day you check in!

by my travel agent as well that Disney goes by the age the child is when you check in. My son is turning 10 when we go in June, so I was worried about the same thing. I didn't want to be questioned as to why he was listed as a child, but she assured me that it won't happen. :)

My daughter is turning 3 on the 3rd day of our 7 day trip. I asked many times to make sure I understood, and the answer never changed: She will be considered under 3 for the entire trip, for meals and park admission and room occupancy. (Yes, I asked about everything!)

I knew people here on the Dis said it would work that way, but I needed to be sure, it would really stink to get there and suddenly need hundreds of dollars to cover things I thought were included.

Have a great trip!

I think Disney considering a 10 yr an adult is crazy anyways. I mean I am sure some 10 yr olds can eat what an adult eats, but still, is it really necessary. Why can' they be like the rest of world and charge adult prices when the kids hit 13.

Where in the rest of the world is 13 considered an adult? Why not 16 then? or 18? or 21?

In 2005, we celebrated DGDs 10th BD. She was 9 when we started the trip; her BD was mid-trip. We paid for a child and she was considered a child for the entire trip. It was good in that it saved us a little $$, but not so good as there were times when she was more interested in the adult fare. A lot of the time we shared and at other times, the CM would pick up on what she really wanted and add it as a "birthday gift." :)

So, it worked well for us then. But, sooo many changes in the DP now - especially the child's menu - that I just can't imagine taking a child over ten and expecting them to choose from the child's menu while I sit across from them indulging in the adult choices they aren't allowed on the plan.
