Turning 21 on the program, renewing license?

Hi! So I'll be turning 21 while on my program in the fall, & I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on license renewal. I'm from NY & I'm not sure if it differs state by state, but do they automatically send one to your permanent address & then you can have it sent to you there? Or is there a better system? Thank you for any responses!

You have to go to a DMV in your state to get a new license. If you were concerned about drinking when you turn 21 you don't need to get a new license as long as your current one is not expired.

NYS automatically sets your license to expire on your 21st birthday.

However OP, you can use this page to help. NYS will let you change your address and renew online.

thanks everyone! i'm actually more concerned about driving with an expired license (i'm bringing my car down there) than drinking, but that definitely helps to know too i figured i'd sort it all out at the DMV, but see if anyone else had any advice or anything!

I turned 21 while I was away at school out of state ... I had gone to my state's DMV just before leaving for school and explained the situation. They gave me a temporary license good for about a month after my birthday, and took my picture for my new permanent license. Once my birthday hit, the real one was mailed to my home address, and my parents sent it to me.

You have to check with your DMV. Every state is different. Mine expired when I was turning 20 on the program. I had to request days off and fly home to do mine.

My DD license expired in March of this year while she was in the College Program. She had to have an eye test done (most Walmarts do them) and then she was able to do it on line. We live in NYS and she had no trouble. Just check your DMV in your state its probably similar... Enjoy the DCP I know she did as she is back in NY to finish college but stayed on as a seasonal employee.
