Turn Down Service

What you find weird I find nice. I never ridicule others for vacation decisions that would not appeal to me, and I never question what anyone chooses to pay for.

Whose ridiculing? I just dont personally choose to avail myself, nor in my opinion, which im perfectly entitled too without it being construed as `ridicule`, think it worth paying for a service which is, when you strip out the free chocolate, paying someone to shut the curtains and tidy your bed up. Just my opinion.

We didn't request it at the Poly last year, but when we returned to our room there was a woman putting chocolates on our bed. It creeped me out. I'm not a fan of turn down service.

Go back and read your post. You added on to the "lazy" post and then discussed the "rich" aspect.

If I misinterpreted your response I apologize but if you look at the post objectively you can see how it could me interpreted.

No turn down service at DVC resorts except for sixth floor concierge villa at Jambo House.

We are staying at Polynesian in October, just regular old standard view. ;)

While I suppose I won't request it, there is something to be said for the luxury of a turn down service...wouldn't be mad if it happened!

I believe it's because the GF is considered Disney's flagship resort.

I realize that they say the GF is the flagship but it still doesn't make sense to me because you can pay just as much for a room at another deluxe resort.

Seconded. It seems very weird to me that, in an exaggerated version of the video posted above, you need someone to turn down the cover of your bed and close your curtains. I dont care how rich you are, you arent rich enough to be unable to get yourself ready for bed without assistance.

You make it sound like someone is waiting in the room for you to help you change into your jammies.

All they are doing is leaving behind clean towels, turning down the sheets and leaving some chocolates on your pillow.

During the summer months and at other times weather permitting, we come back from the parks after lunch and use the pool. Then we shower and change before we go to dinner and then back to the parks. So we've used the towels that they left when they cleaned the rooms earlier in the day.

We don't hang our towels to dry and reuse them. I'm not about to try to figure out which white towel belongs to whom.

Well, let's see. I can turn down my own bed & put a chocolate on the pillow myself. I can close my own curtains. I can also cook my own food & drive myself everywhere. I do all of these things at home, but not at Disney.

I can also hold down a full-time job, pay the bills, keep the house clean, keep my family happy, wash everyone's clothes, tutor my autistic son every night after school & all through summer, volunteer at church etc., etc. I've done all of this for years, so why would I feel the need to prove my self-care skills on vacation?

Like many people, I go on vacation to take a break from a stressful life. Being pampered a bit can be one of the pleasures of vacation, and it's a pleasure that I'm not about to pass up.

Yes!! Totally agree!!

OMG, that's too funny! :thumbsup2

I "accidentally" requested it back in the days at Wilderness Lodge. We were staying for ten nights in a standard courtyard view room, I had previously at the time of booking requested a room on the higher floors (as I like to have when staying at a hotel), and we had got that. Somewhere, somehow during one of my many calls to Disney during a rather intense part of the planning process, I had got the notion that you can order TDS (turn down service) for an extra daily fee on your room bill at the concierge. Now see me through here, this was back in 2004 and I wasn't the best Disney Vacation planner and this was actually my first WDW trip too.

So on the first early afternoon when we came back for a quick rest from MK, to refresh before going back for EMH in the evening, I strolled over to the Lobby Concierge desk and casually just asked "I would like to add Turn Down Service for my room please, is that possible?" just as the most natural thing in the world. The CM gave me a long look, as if how to respond in the most politely Disney manner to this "nut job"?

He asked me, very nicely if I had requested a room with Turn Down Service at the time of booking. And I replied, "No we didn't think we would want it, but has changed our mind. How much is it per night, and do you charge the card now or at check out for the added service?" The poor guy broke out in the biggest smile ever, excused himself to the back office, came out took our details (name and room number) and promised that he would make it happen, free of charge since we were first time visitors staying for 10 days, so of course we should be as comfortable as possible! :goodvibes

And that's how I got it... only later did I find out that:

1) It was not complementary outside of Club Level.
2) I was not an added service for charge.
3) And that he totally sold me in on the Disney Magic and outstanding service by having it "complimentary" as a welcome treatment and for our comfort. :smickey:

So for all 10 nights at Wl we got the full turn down with chocolates, a turned down bed and towel animals (a plenty!). And from evening 1 I gladly tipped generously to the evening maid of course! :worship:

:tinker:

It is complimentary outside of Club Level, and is available at all Deluxe resorts. It is not automatically added unless you request the service.

I personally think its the height of laziness/extreme decadence to offer/use a service fo, basically fixing your bed and closing your curtains ;)

I don't think there is anything wrong with me accepting a service that is offered. Enjoying this service does not mean I am lazy.

And if you get towel animals, that's a super fun bonus to the experience. :jester:

In my room the maid had placed them differently every evening. And one time she even outdid herself by making a pool for my stuffed animals (Disney plush characters bought in the parks and unpacked) with blue smaller waste bags on the bottom as water, and even a slide of towels from the top of the pillows on the bed down to the pool that also was made out of rolled up towels. Hilarious! :rotfl2:

Also, if you let Mousekeeping know, they will happily bump the thermostat for you if you are out in the parks late so it's nice and cool when you get back.

Further, the more services offered by the resort, the more people they employee and that's a win/win for everyone.

Also if you go on a cruise (any cruise line) turn down service is just part of the experience. I enjoy this little extra (especially the chocolates:-)).

As well as any luxury resort outside of Disney. I will leave a note requesting extra towels, water, toiletries, etc if we need them.

I find it interesting that people find it "creepy" Why? Do you also find housekeeping creepy? What is the difference.

Turn down is when housekeeping comes back to your room in the evening and takes out the trash, removes used towels and leaves more, turns down the bed, leaves a chocolate/candy, closes the curtains, and sometimes they turn on the tv to Disney information.
We really like it. We have stayed Club level and enjoy it.
I have requested it when not staying club level at a deluxe.
Did you have to request it each day, or did you just request it for your whole trip at check-in?

But it's a pretty standard service at other hotels that are in the price range of the Disney deluxes. I am hardly lazy (well, sometimes on vacation I am extremely lazy) and I don't care that I indulge in some "extreme decadence" while on vacation, especially if I am paying the price of the Grand Floridian.
