Turn Down Service at WL for non-concierge

DH and i forgot to request it during our stay at WL, but remebered for our last few nights at AKL. It was great coming in to a cosy room and eating yummie mint choccies - sadly despite requesting it each day, we only received it the first night - we were really disappointed and felt a little let down.

We stayed at the WL the last week in January of this year in a woodsview room. I contacted mousekeeping upon arrival in our room and requested a refrigerator (which arrived within a few minutes) and turndown service for the length of our stay. We received it every night and the mousekeeper left us lovely towel animals. We did tip each evening.

DS and I got turndown. I called housekeeping when we first got there, and they came every night (I called the second day we were there and she said she'd put us on a list, so I didn't need to call every day). We did tip $1.00 per bed (b/c we also tipped in the AM) and she turned down beds, left animals, loads of chocolate, and turned the radio on to a salsa station (why, I do not know, but DS loved it).

We requested turn down at the Poly and it was spotty at best. I didn't do it for the kid as I really don't see what my DD would have been that excited about! LOL! Out of 10 nights there we got perfect turn down maybe twice. That was trash emptied, beds turned down, tv on, small mint on beds, towels replenished. After that it was hit or miss. Some days nothing, others just towels, and so on. It was more a pain then anything else and I won't be requesting it again.

I am with you on it's "more a pain than anything else"! :teeth: The only time it really "kind of" worked for us was when we were at the GF before our son was born and we basically had the same schedule everyday! I have to mention that one night we were in the room "earlier" than normal as compared to the mousekeepers "schedule" for turn down and when they "knocked" we declined turn down! The mousekeeper seemed disappointed. :confused3

We felt obligated to tip for the extra service also. When we left the room after regular mousekeeping and before turn down we left our tip.

It can be a nice perk but we found ourselves staying outta the room longer than we normally would have and decided turn down isn't worth it! Plus, mousekeepers vary and if a family is hoping they will get towel animals, and turndown the exact time everyday and for some reason mousekeepers can't get to the room at that EXACT time you will either be disappointed it hasn't happened yet or "disturbed" when trying to get the kids to bed, imho! ;)

My son has experienced "turn down" a few times in his life and he really could care less. Doesn't make or break his trip one way or the other. KWIM???

Actually, our best turndown experience for us happened when we didn't expect/remember it and didn't have to request it and arrived back to the room and voila!

When we stay CL and find we don't seem to be on the same schedule as the mousekeepers for turndown...we just decline it.

In a perfect world, turn down can be a nice perk but not for us anymore! :flower:

Well, I WAS going to ask why everyone considers turn downs to be such a great thing. It's like having your mom there tucking you into bed -- come on folks, we're adults and supposed to be doing this for our kids, not hoping we're tucked in...

but then ....

I read about FRESH TOWELS! :goodvibes

and then....

I recalled visiting DoubleTree on a business trip... and the WONDERFUL chocolate chip cookies.... mmmm..... :lovestruc

ummmm, OK, I'm there with you, I WANT TURN DOWN SERVICE TOOOOOO!

Don't know if they do or not, but if I'm staying there the same time as you I'll come in and tear the sheets back for you for a coupla bucks! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I'm another whom absolutely "LOVES" Turn Down service! Since we usually venture to the parks (summer season) late in the afternoon/evening, it's always pleasant to open the door and find everything clean/fresh and neat upon our return. The lights are softly dimmed down (ie: only low-watt lights over the beds are on), the TV is tuned to the resort's info channel or soft classical/jazz music is playing on the clock/radio...low volume, the beds covers are either removed, or carefully turned down to the edge of the bed, with the sheet corners neatly folded back welcoming & beckoning us to slip underneath and sleep. ::yes:: The chocolates are perfectly placed on the folds of the sheet corner along with the weather report/prediction for the following day (which always brightens our eve)! All of this looks even BETTER on a "Heavenly Bed" :cloud9: (but I'm thrilled with ANY bed "turned-down"). Towels are always replaced, bathroom amenities replenished, trash is emptied, and the room tidied if necessary. :goodvibes We receive flawless & impeccable turndown service at the Dolphin, with stellar results. :wizard: I enjoy this lovely "extra" everywhere I visit. It's one of life's little EXTRAS, which enhance the experience and add to the memories. I for one...would never, ever...TURN-DOWN TURN-DOWN!!! (LOL).

Dreamflight,

I was excited about it, but after your description I'm very excited about it and also a little sleepy :cloud9: . After that post I will definitely request it. I wonder if you tip on the first night (of course I'll tip every night) that mousekeeping is more apt to keep up on you and do a good job knowing you will take care of them in return.

Lesley

I forgot to add that everytime we had turndown service they often in addition to the mints they would leave cookies or something else from the deserts at the CL Lounge .

They also would check our little fridge and restock what we had in there , not sure why but it was nice . Our Mousekeeper whom we asked for would leave diet cokes in the fridge and milk for my DH . Now that is just nice to have no matter who you are LOL

:wave2: Lesley, I prefer to tip at the "end" of our stay at the Dolphin (we are there more than a month), but at other locations I tip each eve. If you are there more than a week, be sure to inform the HK you would like to leave something special for her at the end of your stay, then request her name and schedule. Since the same "team" usually works the same days (full time, vs part timers on the weekends), I could insure she was tipped accordingly (for the # of times she provided this service for us). They always kindly oblige, and seemed pleased with my method. It has always worked well for me in the past. :goodvibes (It's like the CRUISE ship method, tipping the last eve of travel).

When we were at WL last Oct., I wrote a note each morning thanking mousekeeping along with $5 and also requested turn-down for the evening. When we'd return to the room for our afternoon swim, I'd leave a few more dollars and a thank you note. We rec'd turn-down every evening of our stay. The kids loved the towel animals and the cozy looking beds!

Have a great trip!
