Turkey Legs: Tastey or Trashy?

I too have thing with meat on the bone. My DD had to have one last year so i gave in. The outside looked pretty good and I tried a little piece. It was pretty good. The inside though.. was fatty and had a huge piece of cartilage in it that was surrounded by this clear slime. I know that since it is from an animal there is no way for anyone to know what is going on inside it but I was grossed out all day. To make it worse my DD still wanted it and I had to get napkins and scrape off the clear slime stuff. We smelled like turkey all day too. Now the sight of people munching on them makes me gag.

:lmao: that just cracked me up! I can't even look at the quote without laughing!! I acutally liked the turkey legs, and there is something very barbaric about chowing down on them, fun though... but I know what you mean...I have a very touchy gag reflex and anything slimey or stringy just gets me into gag mode...I'd have to tell the kiddo tough luck cuz that thing would have been in the garbage! "We smelled like Turkey all day..." :lmao: hilarious...

We thought they smelles so good on our first trip (2004) my DBf and I had to get some!!!

I really liked them, but there is NO WAY that you can eat it in a lady like manner!!! I was breaking off pieces of meat with my fingers, but still...

WE were sitting at a table eating them, and a lady came and sat with us. She looked at me and said: "I sure hope you are married, because I can't even think of eating that in front of a man who is not in a legally binding contract with me!!!" :rolleyes2

I chose to laugh that comment off, but even though it was pretty good, I haven't eaten a Turkey leg on our following trip...Maybe in October... :)

I saw everyone eating one and just had to have one...my DW (DGF at the time) didn't think it was a good idea. She was right. I ate as much as I could just so she wasn't right but it was disgusting. I don't mind eating meat off of a bone but the entire thing was full of small bone type tendons....I haven't heard anyone talk about the tendons so maybe I just got a bad bird.....but, the experience will keep me away from them on any and all future trips.

Yeah, that's just a common problem with Turkey legs in general. Every turkey leg I've ever had, anywhere, be it at Disney or my Grandmother's Thanksgiving day feast, were laced with annoying bones and other parts. It's just not as neat as a chicken leg.

They taste OK, but the tendons/veins/slimy things runnign through the leg totally gross me out and I cannot eat them. I'd rather have lean smoked ham slices.
