Ok.. forgimme if this has been covered..

But I had a couple of these last week.. and .. well.. there's just no way those are 'actual' turkey.. (at least the ones from Toluca Turkey Legs)

So what ARE they then? Tasted like corned beef or some kind of pork maybe.

===

Gol-darned google says they ARE turkey legs.. injected with saltwater before smoking. Hmm.. I'm still not sure I believe... ;)

They are turkey. It would be illegal to sell them as anything other than they are. But they are HUGE!

Shhh, don't tell anyone...They're sabre-toothed turkey. Ya didn't hear it from me.

They are smoked turkey
Just like turkey-ham taste close to real ham, smoking the turkey legs makes them taste more like a smoked ham.

:crazy2: Yes, they are turkey legs...BLAHHHHHHHH I hate them, I only eat white meat on a turkey or chicken. They actually make me gag when I see people walking around with them. 2 years ago my girls wanted to try one (not sure why, they only eat white meat also), but I got one and I tasted a little and it really was bad:scared: Sorry to all you turkey leg lovers! that' just my taste..

I watched a couple sharing one the last time I was there and thought why... If I were going to eat something loaded with sodium tasting like ham for my snack, I would go to Casey's and have a decadent hot dog.. JMO, never could understand those turkey legs. :confused3

They are real turkey but they are injected with solutions for flavoring, that is why they taste and look the way they do.

:lmao: :lmao: I'm not gagging, but there is a "I can't believe they are eating that" feeling everytime I see someone eating one.

To each their own.

The only dark meat i'll eat; def. smoked to ham-me perfection:thumbsup2 .

Release your inner cave man or woman:rotfl:

Smoked and brined... it's really the very best way to prepare turkey.

Same here. I think they're disgusting looking. We only eat white meat and would never consider them.

We had a smoked turkey one thanksgiving from Harry and Davids. It was very expensive. It taste exactley like the turkey legs in Disney. They actually taste more like ham because of the smoked process.

Also, don't be alarmed at the redness of the meat, it is very very cooked, it is because of the smoked cooking that it gets like that. They are actually cooked more then a regular turkey.

I had one once at a festival and had never seen a turkey leg so big and it tasted like ham, so i figured it was just a sales gimmick.
Then, I was at a different festical and was able to actually talk to the cooking folks about the turkey legs and it turns out they are indeed ostrich
...oops no I mean turkey legs and it is the smoking process that gives them the ham flavor and odd color
I haven't tried one at Disney. It is one of those things you would like a few bites of, but couldn't eat the whole thing..the mental image and flavor just isn't right...ostrich should taste like ostrich and ham like ham

I smoke turkey all the time, very very hard to roll and keep lit :rotfl2:

No really I smoke a turkey 4-5 times a year and bicker is right brinning a turkey or a chicken before cooking infuses allot of flavor and keeps the meat very moist. The dark color is called the smoke ring, poultry will get dark all through but id you do pork or beef you notice the difference as you cut into it.

I'm sorry, but I could never be seen walking around eating one! LOL

My DD loves any meat off of a bone. She always gets the drumstick at Thanksgiving, and goobles it up. When we go in August, I am going to buy her a turkey leg, so people can see this tiny little 9yo gobbling up a turkey leg. :lmao:

Being from the South, I have to say that frying a turkey is on par. I have a smoker, a large fryer, and of course a coal BBQ grill. I make a cajun butter marinade that I inject throughout the turkey and fry it up in peanut oil. Really good stuff. if I smoke it, I do a honey brine.

DW and I love the turkey legs at Disney. :)
