They have been talking about possible shortages due to bird flu here for months. I was concerned I would not get one for Thanksgiving but I did. I hope people who want turkey for Christmas are paying attention.

There was talk of shortages here too, and prices were up. But on the Sunday after Thanksgiving both grocery stores I was in still had freezers full of turkeys, so a shortage did not materialize here.

We only do turkey at Thanksgiving. Bought our prime rib for Christmas back at Thanksgiving -- $5.99 a pound seemed like a good deal, so I went ahead and picked it up.

Sorry for the finances of the bird suppliers, though -- it's got to be tough for them as well.

There's been predictions of shortages since before Halloween. But the farming industry says not to worry, there's plenty of turkeys.

Agricultural economists point out there’s no turkey shortage. If anything, shoppers might notice a slight increase in prices at the grocery store compared to last year.

Throughout this year, an avian flu strain has made its way across the country devastating large numbers of commercial and backyard poultry farms.

About 5 percent of the turkeys in those barns have been lost to that flu and that’s largely driving up prices.

But economists said that’s not enough to create a shortage.
