Turkey Day Gang 2009

It's simple, comes in both the sizes.

Now I have a question.

It seems that some of you have done this cruise before...:rotfl2:

Has anyone done the Tiki Hut excursion on St. Maarten? Can I have your opinions? I have booked this cruise on the sly...my kids have no idea, and I'm trying to figure out excursions without their input. I know that none of us will want to be on a bus for long. My kids love water and beaches and snorkelling but I am wodering if this Tiki Hut thing is too restrictive. Is there a beach or do you just stay on the floaty thing? How good is the snorkelling? How good is the food? I like the idea of this excursion because there are intermittent busses to town so I could leave early and do some shopping, but I don't want it to be to dull for my adventurous kids.

Thanks!

Best excursion in St maarten by far, but only for adults, is the racing of the America's Cup yachts. We will be doing that one again this year.

Hi Chuck,

When you say it is "adult only" do you know the age breakdown? This was one we were thinking about but you know Andrew will want to go (and by the way, he's now taller than me by a good 2 - 3 inches....:sad2:)

Karen

Ick33- We're in New Hartford NY, an hour from Syracuse, and typical CNY weather for spring-cold and wet! It's supposed to snow tomorrow *sigh* My DD will be thrilled to meet new friends-she's my social butterfly!

LK4-I'm sooo hoping the weather in DC improves by next week! We have tickets for the Capital, and want to also to see the White HOuse, Lincoln, the Nat History museum and the zoo-counting on good weather! :)

Karen - sorry to barge in but my passporter is sitting right here. It says ages 12 and up and it was $75pp in the old copy I have.

DD#2 turned 5 today and the poor thing has had the tummy bug all day. We're going to have to postpone her party till another day.

Hi Everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was okay. DD had a friend sleep over so we were up pretty late, ya know, listening to them giggling and then being hungry, then needing a drink, etc... so much fun to see her having so much fun.

As for the bracelets, I like blue. My DH might just wear it if it were blue. :thumbsup2

Trace - you really are up there. My husbands uncle lives in New Hartford. We are in the lower Hudson Valley so maybe an hour out of NYC. Sad, but we hardly ever go to the city though.

ICEMANPAD - thanks for the info on the residence inn. I am calling in the morning to try to secure it with the vouchers. I hope they are all they claim to be. As far as the dinner link, as much as I want to be a part of it, we have decided to stay with the early seating for my FIL. I think the late seating will just be too late for him.

Have fun in DC everyone!

Just looked at woodworknick bracelets. We like the Navy, red/white/blue, and the reflex blue .

What would we put on the bracelet? I'm a go for the bracelets. Just let me know the details to order:)

Thanks Paula. Andrew misses the cut off by 1 year.

Sounds like fun and I'm sure my kids would be very keen...but one of them is 11. Grrrrrr!:headache:

Any other suggestions? And does any one know anything about the Tiki Hut excursion?

My vote is for the blue bracelets.

Hey all

Hope your week is going well. Our is going ok. Got a bit of sad news today :sad2: - DH called to say that a co-worker of his was just given one to two months to live. He is a newlywed (he is in his 50's) and never went on a honeymoon. DH called to ask me if I could research through our timeshare to see if there was anything in Maui. So I just researched and came up with a nice condo in Maui for $800.00 for the two of them. Roundtrip from Boston to Maui would be $1000.00 and rent a car would be $350.00 - so roughly $2150.00 for a week. Of course they would need money to get food and such. I just left DH a note ( he is working the night shift tonite ) and offered $100-$200.00 of our Disney Cruise Money for this. I hope that we can get some others from where we work to chip in and let this dream of theirs come true.....

Makes me thankful for my wonderful life and the memories I have made with DH and DD....

I figure I can live with out things on the cruise or the week before the cruise just to let them have this amazing journey.

I guess we should always thank our lucky stars for all we do have --

:sad1::sad1::sad1:

onto a good note - only 218 days till we vacation and only 225 till we cruise!!

:woohoo:

I've not been, but the book i have says its new and no one rated it yet. you can book it on your own at excursionworld.com/tours/569.htm

That is so sad. I can't even imagine. I'm glad they have good friends like you to help them. Will keep them in my prayers.

Spoke to DH last night and he is thrilled that I could come up with such a great deal in such a short time. Does anyone know if 2100.00 for a week in Hawaii is a good deal? I have never been (yet) it is planned for 2011/2012 :)

I did a quick check of my Disney budget and yes I can still swing the donation and pay the cruise and have spending money - so that will be awesome.

Dh and I will look into seeing if our hospital will assist with some of the costs after we do some fund raising - only have about a week to do this all in - sheesh!!

onto Disney - we decided on two day trips for our Condo week - Nasa and Seaworld - the rest we will just explore Orlando and around it - since we only really have m/t/w/th
on the cruise we will only do the Bernards tour and Burlie tour (those are full day tours )

I glued disney buttons onto my FE last night - aww it looks great - I plan on using it all the time after the cruise - maybe bring it to my office to remind me of my fun in the sun!!

Does anyone else do COIN jars? We have one that we started when we booked and it is almost to the tippity top of the brim now :) :)
( I have one for the cruise and one for the Hawaii trip (of course that one is a lot larger than the cruise container - but we have longer to save - eheh )
I hope to have about $250 - $300 in there

Oh well TGIF :) tonite is our first Bonfire BBQ of the season and guess what :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: IT IS GOING TO RAIN!!! :dance3:

Lisa -- So sorry to hear about DH's co-worker. They are fortunate to have caring, generous friends like you. My thoughts are with the family. Hope they are able to take the trip!

Still waiting on my FE to arrive, but no worries -- I'm just glad I didn't have to make it myself!

Booked a private tour with Joyce Prince for St Maarten! Very excited!! We're going to wing it on St Thomas -- butterfly farm, beach, that sort of thing. Only excursion left to book is possibly parasailing for DH & DD10 on CC. I know to book the earliest possible time -- is anyone here planning to try it, too?

Wishing everyone a happy spring break and Easter!

Lisa,

I'm so sorry hear about DH's coworker. How sad. I hope that others are able to join in on your generosity.

I can't remember who was headed to DC. It is lovely there right now but the cherry blossoms are just about gone. You can see vague hints of pink around the Tidal Basin and looking toward the Washington Monument from the Jefferson Memorial...but leaves are coming in quick! We had a great time there and are heading back home.

Lisa

So sorry to hear about your husbands coworker. How sad. :sad1: You are a really kind person for doing all that you are doing. God Bless you. It is people like you that make the world a better place. I will keep them in my prayers.

Lisa,

I am so sorry to hear about your husband's co-worker. Please suggest that before they leave they get a handicapped hanger for a car...it will come in handy at places like Pearl Harbor and the Polynesian Cultural Center. I would also suggest that they pick up a copy of the "Revealed" books (i.e., Oahu Revealed, etc... there's one for each island) as it will provide them with really good information.

Some people swear by taking an "organized tour" of places (i.e., where you go there by a bus, etc.) With someone who is ill, I'd suggest getting a car (driving in Honolulu is not that bad) and going at their own pace. We took my dad almost 3 years ago when he was having a number of health issues and the ability to go at our own pace was wonderful. Having the handicapped sticker (and we made arrangements to have a walker/wheelchair on standby) worked really well.

I don't know what your husband's co-worker's condition is, but (sorry to be practical) you may also want to suggest that they take copies of his medical records with him in the event that his pain increases and he needs additional medications.

They're lucky to have you in their life.

Karen
