Turkey Day Gang 2009

Have any of you experienced Eastern cruisers done the Rainforest Trek excursion on St. Maarten? Was wondering if it was worth the money.

:yay::yay:
We are going to try to arrive on Thursday (although I think we are driving b/c the price to fly for a family of 6 gives me heart palps). That way we can do MK on Friday. DD3 is obsessed with all things Disney and Princesses. If I had my way, I would take her there tomorrow (she was only there when she was 10 months, so obviously has no memory of the trip). Plus, I think it would be a nice way to kick off the vacation. I even have a couple of very old park hopper passes that never expire with one day left on them. Can't think of a better time to use them. It would be fun if a bunch of us were at Disney before the cruise. Would be another good time to wear our shirts (but then I would be doing a load Friday night so we could wear them again on Saturday!!) :laundy:

Well, I am finally posting on the DISboardshttp:yay: - this has been a long time coming.:goodvibes

I am jeniamt's Mom. In Jan '08 DH & I took our DGS & DGD on a 4 night cruise. At that time we met Dustermom02 & family & were excited that they, too were going on this cruise.

There will be 17 of us in our group, including GGM (my Mom) who will be celebrating her 91 b'day!:woohoo:

Looking forward to meeting all the Turkey Day Gang.

Hi guys!
I'm checking in with a blog update,

Paula,

Hopefully I finally have all of your kids right. Please double check me again. If you will make any corrections in comments I will get to it quicker. Comments come to me as Email right away.

MissJudit!

Hi! I'm glad you have decided to join the board. Jennifer/Jenimet has already added you to the list so no need to worry there. My Mom is going to be on the cruise too so we have three DGM's including your Mom. If you want to add more detail to your entry just add it to comments.

Welcome Aboard!
You sound like our first beat street single! Click on the link in my signature below and add your information to the comments section under the "Turkey Day Gang Fish Extender Room List" entry. You have to click on the word "comments" for it to work. I'll add you to the list for gifts and goodies. Do you know how a Fish Extender gift exchange works? Just ask and I'll bet you get lots of answers.

Did we make a final decision on the bracelet color?
Navy?
Navy, white, red swirl?
Blue? what shade?
What color did Izma get already?

That's pretty much all my news. I've been working hard and looking forward to summer. Brother and SIL are currently enjoying their 9th wedding anniversary at WDW. Lucky them! :rotfl:

:cheer2:Welcome Missjudit!

About these bracelets....are most people getting them and where do we get them? I think I missed most of that discussion....

Suffering through yet another cold, dreary spring day in CNY (but looking forward to the weekend-it's goin to be 80!!)

I think we had decided on "blue" as the color for the bracelets, because it comes in both the adult and kids sizes. If you click on MommyMinnie's blog in her signature, you can find the information for ordering the bracelets.

I'm going to order bracelets for our group of 14. Mine will probably be imprinted with:

::MickeyMo Turkey Day Gang 2009 ::MickeyMo

...and I'm debating about getting each of our names on there as well.

OK I'm calling "Blue" on the blog link for bracelets.

Trace,
A couple of us found on other cruises that silicone bracelets are an easy way to identify each other on the cruise on a day to day basis. I works really well for extended family to recognize the extended family of other dissers and find a friend. This way we don't have to wear a Tshirt or name tag or remember faces all week.

Izma found an Ebay seller who will engrave and sell them one by one. I've posted a link to his Ebay homepage on the blog listed below. This way those who are interested in getting a bracelet can, and those who aren't can just skip it.

OK, getting back to work now.

Had to borrow these from the main board:

Deb T.'s Top 10 List of Things to Do to Help Your Family Prepare for a Disney Cruise:

How about #11: Modify your car horn so that every time you leave your driveway it plays "When You Wish Upon a Star".
(Compliments of MelissaE1)

10. Start serving all breakfasts and lunches buffet style.

9. Every Friday evening, make everyone dress in full pirate gear for dinner. After dinner, dance around while talking like a pirate. Arrrrrrrrgh!

8. Set your children's artwork out on display in the living room, set up folding chairs for everyone to sit on, and then auction off each piece of artwork to the highest bidder.

7. Step outside and lean on a porch or deck railing, gaze wistfully out at your landscape, and comment on how amazing it is that the ocean is spread out before you for as far as you can see.

6. Start checking your children in and out of their playroom. If your children want to leave the playroom before you come to get them, they must stand in the doorway and make beeper sounds until you arrive.

5. Draw the DCL logo on tall plastic cups and drink your favorite alcoholic beverages out of them.

4. Every night, perform a turn-down service for everyone. Place a small chocolate bar on each pillow and leave a schedule of the next day's events and a towel animal on each bed. Oh, and don't forget to set chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk on the nightstand (from Room Service, of course!).

3. Every evening at t 5:40 p.m. (for those of you with main dining; 8:10 p.m. for those with late dining), make your family line up outside the dining room door to wait for dinner to begin. Before they are allowed to enter at 5:45 p.m. (or 8:15 p.m.), make sure the table is set and their favorite drinks are poured and waiting for them. (Make sure to hand out moist towlettes to each family member as they go in through the dining room door! Compliments of NewfieMom) Oh, and of course, have a 4-course dinner prepared to serve.

2. Every evening at 8:00 p.m. (for those of you with main dining; 5:45 p.m. for those with late dining), have everyone sit in front of the TV to wait for that evening's show to begin. Actually, if you'd really like to enhance the cruise, I suggest you have the children watch Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, 101 Dalmatians (live action w/Glen Close), Sleeping Beauty, Tarzan (animated version), Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Pinocchio. Now, back to my silliness: on Friday nights watch Toy Story and Toy Story II for the "Toy Story The Musical" show and on Saturday nights watch Peter Pan for the "Disney Dreams" show.

And the number 1 thing to do to help your family prepare for your cruise:
In the mornings, make a 3-tone chime noise, then make the following announcement in your best British accent: "Ladies and Gentlemen, Girls and Boys, in 2 minutes time the forward door will open for all guests to disembark for school. The weather today is going to be (insert your weather, i.e. cold) so be sure to take your (insert necessity, i.e. hat and mittens) when you leave the house. And remember, all aboard is at (whatever your curfew is). Have a magical day!

Very cute!:rotfl2:

I just ordered our bracelets in reflex blue. Is that ok?

Oh, and now seems to be a good time to let everyone know that my DH and I are JINXED on cruises!!! So, please be forewarned...

We have been on 3 and each and every time, something has gone wrong. The first time we were in 30 ft waves. It was so bad. The deck chairs would move up and down the deck as we went up and down, and all the merchandise in the shops were on the floor! Two thirds of the ship were seasick, including DH.

The second time, it was also wavy for a bit and one port closed for us so we had a "readjustment".

Then last year on the Wonder, we couldn't dock at Castaway Cay due to the wind. :sad1: Mind you, on all three trips, it was sunny, just windy!!

Thought I'd share....sorry everyone! Maybe 4th time's a charm, right????

I haven't been on in a while but I saw your post first and it made me laugh. I think you hit your limit of 3 and it should be great this time! And if not... a week away from home in wind is way better than a week at work.;)

I'm going to order our bracelets today in just plain "blue" since i need youth and adult. And if we have different shades of blue it'll just be that much easier to identify who's who.

Its just right. Thanks Patsy!

I'm really sorry, for the multiple postings. I need to figure out how to do multiple quotes in one response.

I am jeniamt's Mom. In Jan '08 DH & I took our DGS & DGD on a 4 night cruise. At that time we met Dustermom02 & family & were excited that they, too were going on this cruise.

Hey there! Welcome! We were seriously just talking about you the other night. I don't know if you remember but we stopped your dh the night before the cruise at the Target store near Port Canaveral in '08 b/c he was wearing an Annapolis sailing shirt. If you're watching the J24 Worlds in Annapolis this week my dbil is racing Sane Asylum. The whole family is super excited.:cheer2:

And I don't know how many other sailors there are out there, but we're planning to bring some inflatable marks to drop in the waters at castaway cay to do some racing. Just some fun parent/kid teams. My kids have instructed me to find trophies for the "1st ever Turkey Cruise Regatta".... So we'll see how that goes. I just hope its allowed.

Also, I know there were a lot of 11 yr olds that miss the cut off age for the 70ft yacht excursion, but the sunfish at castaway cay really are a lot of fun to try out. We should pick a time the castaway cay day to meet and all go out. I think it would be fun.---Can you tell the gorgeous weather is getting to me? I've only been out on the water once so far this year and can't wait to get out again so I'm planning it now for November:lmao:. Dh has already been out about 4 times and I'm jealous.

lcoasterdizfan - Welcome - My dsis and dbil that will be on this cruise loved the time they spent in Pittsburgh - sis went to Pitt and bil went to Dusquane. They are huge Steelers fans so they'll be trying to find any games televised on the cruise.
