Turkey Day Gang 2009

We usually drive down (sorry, flew once at Thanksgiving and that was enough for me...getting stuck in O'Hare for an overnight was not fun!).

Karen

We've been stuck on I-95 trying to get home over various holiday weekends. Its aweful!! If we can find a cheap flight, I think we'll try to fly this time.

I too like the idea of staying at the Hyatt the night pre-cruise. Its incredibly convenient. And thanks for the heads up on the stay certificate - saves a bit of $$.

Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party looks fun. It was just featured on Samantha Brown's show. We've never done it before. Is it really worth the excessive ticket price?

I-95...yikes! When we lived out east, I did some driving on I-95 and I think that is the worst highway in the US!

(True but funny story...when we lived in West Virginia, my co-workers nominated me to drive to and in Washington, DC since I was from a "big city" and used to lots of traffic. Don't get me wrong, St. Louis is fairly large...but not like NYC or Chicago! Needless to say, I laughed hysterically and had no problems navigating my way through DC traffic. To this day, when I go to DC I usually do the driving there, particularly with my dad since he once said he spent 1/2 a day going around DuPont Circle :rotfl2: !)

Anyway, since we're in the middle of the US, we usually pick up I-75 outside of Chattanooga and take it though Atlanta (yuck...unless it's around midnight!).

I don't know much about Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party...but since we will have annual passes this summer, I know we get a bit of a break on the ticket price. I sure do hope that it is worth the price of admission though!

You drive in DC??? I'm impressed!! I think DC is one of the most confusing cities to navigate. My girlfriend and I went up one weekend to run part of the Marine Corp marathon course. We also wanted to drive the course as well to get familiar. I swear we drove by the same spot 5 times trying to figure out how to get across the bridge from DC to VA. After the 5th pass, we were laughing hysterically feeling like Chevy Chase in European vacation (where he goes round and round the traffic circle). I think it took us something like 3 hours to drive the stinkin course - and thats with directions and a GPS in her car! Needless to say, we did lots of laughing and cursing that weekend. Driving the course was almost as tough as running it (well, not really)!!:scared1:

I so understand that! I was in the car with my dad when I first went to DC...he was driving...and I kept telling him to go behind the Lincoln Monument to cut across the Mall...well, he kept missing the turn and we'd be on the bridge over to Virginia (I think it's the Roosevelt Bridge...but I can't remember). That experience, combined with his story about spending hours trying to get over and make a right hand turn 3/4 of the way around DuPont Circle convinced me that he's just not a DC driver. He laughs and says that I can drive it because I learned how to drive in downtown Chicago with my aunt (I was visiting her on my 16th birthday). I always tell him that it's because I'm a better driver than he is!

By the way...Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

Karen

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!

Chuck and Lisa - how old will Mason be on the cruise? My friends will be in the room right next to you, and have a son who will be 12 when we sail.

Happy Holidays to all!! :wizard:

Mason will be 10 years old when we sail in November.

OUCHIE - so I come home from an OK Christmas and get ready to do my COUNTDOWN to booking airfare. Rush over to Delta - type in my dates - and it is still a week away for booking. Last week the roundtrip was 229.00 today it is 600.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FALLS OFF CHAIR

So now me thinks I will wait to see what the scoop is for Delta and then maybe try Southwest out of Manchester??? !!!! ohhh well still got 10 months 18 days !!

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season :santa:

:scared1: What a swing in airfare! Surely you will be able to find something better.

Happy Holidays to all. I hope everyone made it safely to their family and friends then home again.

I am still visiting with my travel "crew" for next year. We have been making travel plans and are looking forward to the trip.

Is anyone going to extend and go back to Disney World for a few days after the cruise? We are seriously thinking about doing this and going to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

Karen

Hey Karen. I was just doing some budgeting and was just looking at the 2008 dates for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Unfortunately, it wasn't held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We might be out of luck. It looks like it was held on Sunday though, which would be too late for us (am thinking we would need to fly home Sunday afternoon). Oh well - guess we could always do a day in one of the parks.

Jodie

Hi Jodie,

Yep, unfortunately they don't do it on Saturday. We're hoping to stay until Tuesday or Wednesday though and hope to catch it! Hope all is well with you and yours.

And...to all the Turkey's have a very Happy and Healthy New Year!

Karen (Steve and Andrew too)

Hey Rob...when are you and Priscilla taking a cruise on that "other" line...you know the one with the warm chocolate melting cake (yum!)?

I've been looking at one around Memorial Weekend (or a week later) and was just wondering.

Thanks,

Karen

We were going in March for spring break but could not get descent air fare to MIA. We moved it last night to June 13-20 on the Glory out of PC. I will still get my lava cake and the oyster bar:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Its a Western with good ports and NO darn Key West:worship:

We are also going to do the Carnival Dream in 2010 when it comes to PC. The Dream looks like it will be a great new ship and the prices are very reasonable:thumbsup2 Come join us:thumbsup2

Rob

Wow...the Dream looks BIG...very, very BIG! I also find it ironic that Carnival chose the name Dream since I was betting that would be one of the names of the two new Disney ships (we...meaning Andrew and I...are betting that the new Disney ships will be called Dream and Imagination).

We sailed the Glory a little over a year ago. We did the Belize, Cozumel, Costa Maya and Nassau cruise. Belize was wonderful snorkeling....the rest of the ports (for us) are just OK with Nassau being the worst of them (though I will admit to liking the Straw Market, even though my bank account doesn't).

The ship was tough to navigate...with the galley in the middle everything is up (or down), over and around. Hmm....I need to chat with DH...I need a cruise fix!

Karen

I was sorta thining about booking this Thanksgiving trip, but now I'm scared!!!! :worship: I don't think I can keep up with this group!

Actually I can't decide if I want to book the 7 day cruise or do 3 days at WDW and a 4 day cruise. I'll be using DVC points for part if the trip.

I will probably be just myself and my two kids, DS (11) and DD (9).

I have cruised on Carnival to Mexico and NCl to Hawaii, but never on Disney. My kids have never cruised before either.

I guess I need to decide soon so I can start planning... only a little over 10 months!

Welcome, Shari! Don't be scared of this group! Everyone is very welcoming and very friendly. We really enjoyed spending a whole week on the ship. It gives you much more time to relax and enjoy everything that's onboard.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm going to sit down today and do some major research. I'm going to see the difference in the price of the 2 trips. I really want to do the 7 day cruise just because I think it will be easier on me to not have to worry with the packing and moving. I'm just not sure if my kids will see the cruise as a great vacation like going to the parks. They are sorta like me in the fact we go on vacation for the adventure, not to relax. I'm not sure what they will do on sea days.

Well, I'm off to research! I'm sure I'll be back and ask a few questions since this appears to be a very experienced Disney cruise group!:lovestruc

Hi there. We've done both a 7 and a 3 day Disney cruise, and I MUCH preferred the 7 day. The 3 nighter was just way too quick. I enjoyed the entire experience better on the 7 nighter. Also, on the 3 nighter, I felt way too rushed (we also went to WDW afterwards). My dh and I said after that trip that we would never do it that way again. It will either be a week on the ship OR a week in Disney; it was just too crazy to split it up. Typically, I think the 3 nighter is cheaper per night than the 7 nighters, but I think the longer cruise is worth the extra $$. Just my 2 cents! By the way, my kids like the cruise BETTER than WDW!! Good luck planning. :goodvibes

Hmm - I'm thinking we could do the MVMCP the Friday night before the cruise. That might work.
